Someone SpecialDani Carmichael’s life has turned upside-down in a matter of months. Sex is the very last thing on her mind. Processing her grief? Yes. Rallying her girlfriends? Definitely. Starting a new career? Sure. But finding a man is way down on the list. Until she meets her new neighbor, Army Vet Nick Gantry. His hidden wounds and his bare chest tempt Dani to risk her bruised heart. Nick is … heart.
Nick is looking for a place to hide away and heal, after his last tour in Iraq. The apartment building close to the VA seems perfect, until he discovers the girl next door he can’t ignore. She deserves more than he can give her, but her sexy smiles and sinful cookies shake his ‘just friends’ resolution.
After their undeniable chemistry explodes, Nick beats a hasty retreat, afraid of hurting her. Dani is left angry and alone, picking up the pieces. He’ll have to battle his demons to convince her that she is truly someone special. She must decide if she can trust the man who broke her heart.

Dani’s life has been turned upside down. After leaving everything behind to help take care of her dying aunt, she is now alone and wondering what to do with her life. Living in the apartment complex still she finds her peace by helping the other tenants who were always friendly and like a family to her and her aunt. However, even though her aunt is gone, she’s still going to make sure that Dani is taken care of and will make sure Dani starts to lie again and finds her passion.
Nick Gantry is an Army vet who has come back with more demons and nightmares than he cares to admit. Moving into the small apartment complex that was close to the VA was suppose to offer Nick the peace and place to hide he thinks he needs. When Dani gets a good look at her new neighbor she knows Nick is hiding demons and can’t help but want to help.
Although Nick was looking for a place to hide and heal, he never realized the kind of healing he needed was the kind his meddling neighbor could offer. She gave him the means and reason to want to get help, vets that know what he’s been through and are there to talk him through the pain he going through, and most importantly a reason to fight to be a better man for her.
This is my first book that I’ve read from Eva Moore, and I honestly can say I fell in love with this story from the first page. From the beginning we can see that even though Dani is grieving, she’s also a caring and compassionate person who finds her peace by caring for others. Nick’s suffering of PTSD is something that many people like to believe they understand, but until you see it first hand, you can’t really understand how destructive this is for our veterans. In many cases our vets can’t find a reason to want to get the help that may be offered, but the way this author wrote this story does show that love can be a strong motivator. I also loved that it wasn’t only Nick that Dani helped. Jimmy, the other vet who had his own problems and couldn’t find someone to take a chance on him, was finally given that one break and was determined to get better and not let Dani down for taking a chance on him.
Four and a half stars.
Dani Carmichael’s at loose ends. Mourning her aunt and trying to figure out what she’s going to do with the rest of her life, she’s not in a position to start a relationship. But when Army vet Nick Gantry moves into her old apartment across the hall, she can’t deny that he sparks her interest in a way that she’d not experienced before.
Someone Special by Eva Moore does a terrific job of creating vivid, true-to-life characters, surrounding Dani and Nick with a warm and interesting supporting cast of neighbors and friends. It’s easy to relate to Dani’s struggle to find her footing, and the encouragement of her friends goes a long way towards helping her fine-tune her goals. And Nick’s struggles with PTSD and the not-physical wounds he bears from his tours, his determination to deal with it himself and not to harm those around him, feel all too genuine as well. These are two very real people, bruised but not broken, trying to make their way with the hand that life’s dealt them.
Ms. Moore’s writing is easy to read. She tackles tough situations and topics with a deft hand, keeping us turning the pages. Dani and Nick are people we root for because not only do they fall in love, despite their best or worst intentions, but we fall in love with them too. We laugh with them, we cry with them, and we love seeing them live life to the fullest.
Can’t wait for the others in this Girls’ Night Out series!
It’s great that PTSD is being talked about from the view of all ages of the Vets. It brings this issue out and talks about how they handle it and get the help they deserve. Showing a caring community helping Nick and Dani bring out the best in each of them was great to see. The romance between the two was a little slow on Dani’s part. ( In my opinion) But I did enjoy the book
This is a true love story. Filled with drama, compassion, forgiveness, love, stress, and everything in between. Just like real life. Nick and Dani’s store is a great read, and the secondary characters are a great addition to their story. Between Nick’s issues with PTSD due to military life and Dani’s need to mother and take care of everyone feels like the author was talking about my personal life. The way she handled each situation was with great care and love and you can tell that she fell in love with her own characters. I am so glad I tried this book out, it was worth it.
Someone Special by Eva Moore is an amazingly sweet love story with all the feels you could hope for. Even though PTSD is such a hard subject to talk about it is dealt with in a honest and tactful way by the author. Dani and Nick are perfect together both sweet with difficult pasts. Dani is a total giver and always doing for others mothering everyone. Nick is suffering from PTSD and has not asked for help yet and brings out all of Dani’s motherly instincts. They have the most intense chemistry. Secondary characters are phenomenal in this story and I will be reading the other books in the series. You have to give this author a try.
A well written, heart warming, heart rending book, Someone Special gives the reader some insight into the ravaging effects of PTSD on the victim and their friends and family. Nick’s courageous struggle and Dani’s unconditional support and love combine with an interesting story, great characters and a satisfying end to keep the reader engaged with each turn of the page. Will continue to read the series Girls’ Night Out as I can’t wait to read Olivia’s story.
Two people dealing with lost, starting over and overcoming issues the author gives a story that really touches me and is dear to my heart. PTSD is very real, touching so many lives not just our military. I thought the author gave a touching sweet read that really pulls the reader in but it is so much more than a romance it is a story based on friendship which will last way longer than lust does. It is written with true emotion with a great plot and a very believable story line.
A part these are two lost souls but together they balance each other, giving the other what they need most. Neither is looking for love, neither want it, love as a way of finding you when you would rather go hide far way from anyone and everything. I really loved these two characters as well as the supporting ones. Nick is one of those characters you really just want to grab up, give a shoulder and a quite place for him lean and learn to relax. I wanted so bad to take away all that he has had to deal with and give him peace of mind.
This is a story about learning to trust and love, giving of one’s self but still be able to stand on your own two feet. It is a story of overcoming, growing, learning it is OK to need and want as well as love and have fun, finding that someone that makes you feel complete. It is a very touching and emotional read that grabbed me and sucked me in. I read this at one setting and didn’t want it to in. I haven’t read anything by this author but sure do look forward to reading more of her work. Very well written leaving you with a feeling of peace, love and harmony.
This was a new author to me and I am SO glad I took a chance! This book was amazing. This book has all the qualities a really good book should have.
The story revolves around Dani and Nick. Dani is dealing with a loss that is still so fresh she isn’t sure how to move forward and Nick is dealing with PTSD from his time in the military.
Both of these semi broken and are in need of each other and they don’t even realize it. The other soothes a part of themselves that they have been neglecting.
I really enjoyed the authors thoughtful and tactful way she dealt with Nick’s PTSD. As someone who doesn’t have it, it was an eye opening experience but also made me want to hug him and hold him close.
I will be reading more from this author!!
THis is a slick, witty read that is fun from moment one. I love every minute of it. The characters are relatable and strong and the story keeps you involved. Wonderful from the word go! I strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a contemporary romance novel with wit and wisdom,
