Dorian Anson is my friend. She’s the only person who’s ever questioned my smiles. My jokes. The one liners that have our friends shaking their heads at me. I’ve lived my life on those smiles. Thy never failed me, until her.I wasn’t counting on her when I designed my front. I never imagined the possibility of someone like her coming into my life. She was the girl with the beautiful soul, pretty … beautiful soul, pretty face and whole heart. But hearts aren’t made to stay whole.
I watched hers break. I watched her tears fall. I watched as her world tilted on its axis and shattered at her feet.
This girl.
She sees me, all parts of me—the truths I try to hide, the secrets I bury. What’s mine and what’s not.
She sees it all, and I can only hope that the truth isn’t too much. That she won’t walk away.
That she won’t leave me…alone.
We both have a past. We have ghosts. We have fears.
I’m hoping that somehow in the end, we’ll have each other too.
I’ve never needed anyone before her, and I know I’ll never want anyone else after her.
There is no one like her.
My pretty girl.
Dorian.

SOMEONE LIKE YOU
By Alexandra Silva
4.5
This friends to lovers, slow-burn contemporary romance by Alexandra Silva is enjoyable. Dorian Anson is a single mom, who’s life consists of work and her son, Daniel. After losing her fiancé she closes herself off from any type of male companionship due to guilt. Jacob “Jake” Roth is the happy go lucky guy of the group. he is Dorian’s brother, Jamie’s best friend.
“He kissed the very tip of my nose lightly before he touched his forehead to mine.”
Both dealing with issues that stem from their past, the pair decide to not fight the attraction that they’ve had for each other and finally decide to have a no strings attached kind of relationship which is strictly just for fun with no commitment. What they have leads to a love so strong that both fight the feeling as to not burden each other with their issues.
“It was that precise point in time that my heart decided it was never letting go.”
Dorian and Jake’s story was so honest and realistic. It was genuine and the journey to love had its ups and downs but at the end of it all the foundation of their friendship was too solid to crumble. Once walls around their hearts were torn down and all was laid out the pair found their hearts beat as one.
“Every freaking beat is yours, you gave me my heart back when I didn’t realize it was missing.”
Alexandra takes us through heartbreak, loss, addiction but shows us that when you find someone, the right person to stand by your side, it makes opening your heart worth is. I highly recommend this book!
The more of Alexandra Silva I read, the more I begin to love. If you begin with Book one of the Imperfect Hearts series it may seem like it is going out of order…as each story plays out..you already know how previous characters have developed. While we met Dorian in book 2 and we know a lot about her life and her history, we know very little about Jake. This is HIS story as far as I’m concerned although Dorian is a major character, but here we find out all the why’s, the how’s and the when’s. Why does Jake spend all his time using humor even at times when it would seem he shouldn’t. Why is he such a playboy with women but when it comes to his friends children, he is downright father material. Jacob has a story, one that may or may not surprise most but all I know is I fell in love with the man Jacob has become despite what he holds in and what he has had to deal with…and Dorian…my oh my what a woman she has become! I definitely want more in this world as there are characters that definitely need their own HEA’s. Daniel himself was a complete scene stealer…and I want some magic stars to wish upon!
Someone Like You is a beautifully romantic love story that flowed easily. It put a smile on my face and warmed my heart.
Dorian Anson is a fixer and a fiercely independent single mom. She has suffered terrible loss, but still has an optimistic outlook. Her love for her son is first and foremost. Her hesitation is understandable after everything she has been through.
Jake Roth lightens the mood with a single joke. He’s handsome, successful and wants to be more than a friend to Dorian. But he also has secrets and a playboy reputation plus he’s slightly arrogant which at times angered me. Yet with all of that, I loved him. His moments of being rendered speechless were absolutely perfect. His love and loyalty, unquestionable.
They have a friendship that spans years. They dance around each other and their attraction. The slow burn with sexual tension ratchets up the anticipation. When they finally reach that pivotal point, it’s explosive. Yet they both pull back and watching the dynamic of their relationship change and grow is the best part of the story. He doesn’t treat her like she’s going to break and she needs that when everyone else does. And she “sees” him when their closest friends don’t. It’s a beautiful, honest love.
I haven’t read the other two books in this series but I plan to do so soon. Reading them can only enhance the pleasure of this one. And this one was extremely pleasurable.
This author was new to me and I will definitely be looking up the other books in this series.
This was a Friends to Lovers story between Dorian, a strong, independent single mum trying to build the best life for her son after the loss of her fiancé, and Jake. Jake is supposed to be the ladies man of the group but is actually protective and sweet. Watching him with the children, and with his sister is so adorable.
I really liked the dynamics of the group, and that they were all friends separately. Willow was my favourite, she’s funny and feisty with a smart sassy mouth, and Daniel is just too cute.
I liked the way the relationship built between the main characters, from a long term friendship with an underlying attraction into so much more, but slowly and building depth into their bond. Whilst the sex scenes are very steamy I found some of the wording a little uncomfortable, but that’s just my personal view.
This was funny and heart-warming, dealing well with the issue of substance abuse. I cant wait to read more about this little group.
I received this ARC as a giveaway in a Facebook group. Please keep in mind that this was the first time I read this author and I did not read the first two in the series.
This was a sweet best friend’s sister “forbidden” romance with a London twist on it. Dorian and Jake have been friends for years but something has shifted and each has seen each other in a different light. Dorian is a single mom to Daniel and Jake has always been the friend in the back of the tunnel. We get to experience the changes in feelings, some obstacles for them to overcome, and the journey on how they find each other. And, of course, there are some very steamy and somewhat “crude” scenes in this book as well.
I did enjoy the first half of the book and then something shifted for me in order to give this book 3 stars. There is an endearment of “pretty girl” and “baby” thrown in this book SO many times that it grated on my nerves. Just the adjective of pretty (and whilst) was thrown around in this book that I am going to guess that pretty and whilst are the author’s favorite words HA HA. Also, I felt like the book dragged on and on toward the end. There were a couple chapters that I thought could have finished the book and then they didn’t.
Other than a couple of minor preferences, this was a cute romance read with a London twist.
