I listened to this on audio, and the narrators did a good job. While I admire the author for delving into a hard topic and bringing embryo adoption to light, the story seemed rushed. And honestly, parts of the story came across as forced, unauthentic, and not believable.
It didn’t make sense to me that Maddie, the young main character, would leave everything and everyone she’s ever known and loved when she learned the truth about her embryo adoption and so quickly embrace her biological family.
A lot of the storyline, especially the ending, was predictable and a little too perfect for my taste. But, I have no doubt that Karen Kingsbury fans and fans of Christian Romance and the Baxter family will enjoy this one.
Someone Like You is the next book in the Baxter Family series by Karen Kingsbury. Maddie Baxter West has it all, a great family, just graduated college with her dream job lined up and engagement to her high school when her world is completely flipped by someone she thinks could be a stalker.
I enjoyed reading this story. There is enough realism in the book to make it plausible but as always, it has a pretty predictable ending.
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion.
Wow! that was one of the best books I had read it a long time! It was amazing! The constant talk of God, the romance being clean… Everything. I wouldn’t change anything in this book! Karen Kingsbury is gradually becoming one of my favorite authors. My grandma reads her, and she gave all her books to us, I went into them very skeptical but left absolutely wanting more. Especially more of the baxter family.
This was a good book with a unique story line. I highly recommend it.
Very well written and great story of love, betrayal, forgiveness as always KK keeps me coming back for more
In this book you will learn about embryo adoption, kidney transplant and how one untold secret can effect a family. When Maddie learns about the secret that her parents kept from her she is angry. Dawson is struggling with a loss when he finds Maddie. Karen will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
loved it
I love all of Karen Kingsbury’s book!!
Great story of forgiveness, redemption and finding love
The ending was a little predictable, but the storyline was original and I love Karen Kingsbury’s writing.
Love all of Karen’s books! Really a different plot but didn’t surprise God.
I have read all of Karen Kingsbury’s book about the Baxter family except one. I’m glad that Ashley didn’t play a large part in this book. Something about her personality bothers me. These books really need to be read in order or it would be very confusing. The books portray a family that has their share of problems but rely on the Lord.
I always love my Baxters and their adventures. This story had me sobbing – fair warning.
Embryo adoption. Something most people don’t even know exists. A lovely twist on the adoption theme. This book covered so many topics: loss, trust, faith, family.
The kidney disease because of too many over the counter pain medications was a really piece in this book. I’ve never heard of that before.
I loved the reference to the childhood story we learned about in the new Finding Home book.
It was wonderful just like all her books are. hard to put down
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. Another wonderful book by Karen Kingsbury that made me think about things, made me cry and sometimes got me caught up in the moment. I also did some praying right along with them. Here it is 3::16 AM and I am still thinking about what I read and thinking about what I would have done. I honestly don’t know but I could see where God was testing the people in the story and I could also see God working to put the people in the places they needed to be.
I love this gorgeous cover!! I’ve only read a few of this author’s book and I’ve enjoyed everyone.
It was a sad book but also a happy one too. I liked the Christian and sweet romance parts of it too. Thanks to Netgalley for opportunity to read this delightful book
I bought this book for Mother’s Day for someone I love, and now that I have read it myself I cannot wait to chat with her about it. I admit I got a little concerned when I began reading because so e if this is just a little too close to home in the pain and loss we have both recently experienced, but I really felt like God was telling me to give her this book, so I knew even if it was hard it would somehow still be good. It was! I am especially grateful that the author gave me the additional chapter in an email because the library copy I read doesn’t have it. The copy I bought for Grammy from walmart does have it though! I am glad! I especially enjoyed the way Karen included that extra chapter and a character named Jag, because those made sense and were happy surprises I understood because I have read other books she has written. And no, I had never heard of one of the main topics of this book but I am excited to know it exists. Oh, and I also liked the cover!
This was the first book I’ve read by Karen Kingsbury and I’m not sure why I haven’t read any of her books before. This book centers around an adopted frozen embryo. The story dives into the meaning of family. Is family strictly a function of biology or so much more than that? Maddie West must wrestle with this question after finding out the truth about her birth. A heart-warning and faith filled story of love and family. Beautiful book!
Someone Like You and Karen Kingsbury. Family, love, romance, and an unlikely twist borne of scientific progress and moral questioning the science.
I have read many Kingsbury books and this was one of the best!
