David Bell never disappoints. Somebody’s Daughter is a stunner, full of twists and turns and duplicitous motivations. Bell’s solid storytelling is as sharp and scary as ever. Fans of Harlan Coben will love this one.
Somebody’s Daughter gives us a day in the life of its secretive characters. Not just any old day, but a day when not only a little girl’s disappearance but her very existence is turning everyone’s world upside down. The whole story takes place over one day in the search for young Felicity, but there are years of secrets revealed little by little. David Bell never fails to impress me with his talent for creating intense situations, and this one was no different. From the time Erica rang Michael and Angela’s doorbell, I was hooked. Everybody’s hiding something, and as these wonderfully done characters race to find Felicity, not much remains hidden. Who is Felicity’s father? Is she really even Felicity? Who knew about her and who didn’t? And most of all, what does it all have to do with her disappearance? The more I read, the more I was drawn in and absolutely had to know the answers. All in all, Somebody’s Daughter is another gripping read from this author. It’s full of intensity, suspense, and deceit. This one is a perfect example of trust no one and suspect everyone, because they’re all hiding something, be it past secrets or present.
Somebody’s Daughter by David Bell is compulsively readable with surprises that gripped me from start to finish. With nerve-shattering suspense, this well-crafted tale builds to an unexpected, chilling ending.
Sweeping readers into the chaos of one breathless night, SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER calls uncomfortable attention to the fact that water under the bridge can rise without warning. By daybreak, David Bell will have you questioning everything, from how much the truth matters, to whether there are wrong ways of doing the right thing. A well-paced race against time that will grip you from the first chapter all the way to its satisfying conclusion.
Somebody’s Daughter is both plausible and pulsating, a psychological thriller that hits perilously close to home.
A nine-year-old is missing.
Did she run away or was she kidnapped.
Kidnapped is the consensus.
The suspect could be anyone – a single person or a team.
The drama begins with the ring of the doorbell.
Angela and Michael didn’t expect to see his ex-wife, Erica, on their front porch. What Erica had to tell Michael was a shock.
Erica’s daughter is the nine-year-old missing, and she wanted Michael to help her. The reason she wanted Michael to help was an even bigger shock.
We follow the investigation as it gets thicker by the minute and brings in a similar case that might be connected.
The characters all seemed to be guilty, and they all seemed to have secrets with Angela being the only one who had no clue about anything going on.
SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER is filled with Mr. Bell’s signature tension and suspense. His hints and hanging situations at the end of each chapter were strong enough to make you not want to stop reading.
And….I couldn’t stop reading as the characters and the search became more complex, more intriguing, and had me scratching my head.
BRAVO, Mr. Bell.
Another suspenseful story line with an ending to ponder and to discuss. 5/5
I received an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Michael and Angela Frazier are happily married and are desperate for a baby after years of failure. One evening, Michael’s ex-wife, Erica, appears at their door unannounced. This is a big surprise since the two have not been in touch for many years. She is in a frantic state after the disappearance of her ten-year-old daughter Felicity. Erica gets Michael to help her investigate after revealing that Felicity is his child.
Erica believes that Felicity’s music teacher is involved in the abduction and knows where to find her daughter. She needs Michael’s assistance for her planned interrogation. Together they seek to solve the mystery despite the efforts of detectives already working on the case. At the same time, Angela learns information about Erica that has her concerned about her husband’s safety.
This is a delightfully suspenseful book with major twists and turns. David Bell owes me a night’s sleep back after making me stay up for the conclusion. I look forward to more novels from him.
This book was awesome! This book was so easy to read, with short chapters, that had a little cliff hanger at the end of each one.
The book starts off with Michael, who is married to Angela, having a typical night at home, when the door bell rings, and its Erica, the Ex wife of Michael. She is hysterical, pacing, and smoking, claiming that their daughter, Felicity was missing, but the kicker, Michael did not know the child existed! She asks Michael to go with her to help find their daughter, and he did. Sadly, his current wife, has been unable to get pregnant.
The book has lots of twists and turns with a shocking end!
Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this book! Pick it up, you won’t be disappointed. This is my first book by the author, David Bell, but won’t be my last!
4.5 for me. Though I think I should have rounded up.
David Bell has done it again with his latest book Somebody’s Daughter.
Michael’s ex wife shows up on his doorstep begging his help when her daughter goes missing. She tells Michael that Felicity is his daughter that he never knew about. Ho goes off to help Erica even though his wife is dead set against it.
Thus begins the tangle of secrets, lies, and how past relationships effect everyone.
The clock ticks as the police scramble to find Felicity safe Who would take Felicity, who’s daughter is she really?
A fast paced thriller that wont disappoint you.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read Somebody’s Daughter
I received an ARC copy from BerkleyPub in #BookSweepstakes.
This is one of my favorite reads of the year! I was immediately pulled in by the excerpt of how an ex-wife suddenly shows up dropping a bombshell on her ex-husband. A secret that she held onto for ten years out of spite.
Michael and Erica Frazier got married for the wrong reasons right out of college. They were not good for one another, with a troubled marriage. Michael ended the marriage and soon after met his current wife, Angela.
Michael’s family suffered a tragedy when he was young that devastated his parents and sister. Erica, who knew of the tragedy, shows up on Michael’s doorstep to inform him that he is a father of a nine-year-old girl that is missing. Erica uses the family tragedy to hook Michael into going with her to seek out a person, whom she wishes to confront.
Michael agrees to go with Erica in what should amount to a few hours being gone, but turns into a nightmare for all involved. Everyone is hiding a secret. Michael and Angela’s marriage will be tested. A lot of truths will have to be shifted through with time running out to find a missing child that just vanished, that may or may not be Michael’s daughter.
This was a compelling, fast paced read! I, highly recommend this book!
If you want one word to describe Somebody’s Daughter by David Bell that word would be shocking. There are so many shocking moments in this book with the end being the biggest shock of all. I had no idea what was going to happen, and I don’t think I ever would have guessed. This is my third novel by Bell and what I’ve noticed is that he writes some crazy and unbelievable books (in a good way). I loved the viewpoint changes, and that one of them was a cop as that brought a lovely procedural feel to the novel. There are quite a few characters, but they were all very easy to keep track of so readers shouldn’t have an issue with this. Jon Lindstrom is the narrator for the audiobook who I’ve listened to many times before and he is one of my favorite male narrators. He did a great job with the voices (even when he attempts to do female viewpoints), and I was a big fan of his narration for this one.
Somebody’s Daughter will keep you on the edge of your seat, and Bell basically throws you right into things from the very beginning which I always love. I listened to this one very quickly and it is a very engaging book. It keeps you on your toes and wondering how everything is going to come together. There are plenty of secrets to unravel and between the short chapters and multiple viewpoints, you won’t want to put it down. This would be a good choice for readers who like suspense and twisty books without all the gore and violence in some novels. Another winner for me from Bell and I am looking forward to reading more from him!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
An expertly woven tale of human nature and intrigue…
If you’re looking for a book to keep you up all night craving one more page, one more chapter – this is it! Excellent, twisted story. I loved it!
Super fast read about a missing girl. David Bell has created a thriller that races from start to finish. When Michael is confronted by his ex-wife that her daughter is missing, he is confused. Why is she involving him in this? He has moved on and is happily married to Angela. When Erica says that Felicity is his daughter, he is shocked! 10 years old, and he knew nothing about her.
This possibility spurs Michael into action to help Erica find Felicity. What follows is a twisted tale of family, past sorrows, strange persons, and a long held secret.
I enjoyed this fast moving novel!

This thriller was very well written and had good flow. I liked the storyline, but was a little disappointed by the ending.
Michael and his wife Angela have been trying a while to have a baby without success. One evening there is a pounding on their door and Michael is confronted by his ex wife Erica who tells him that he is the father of her 10-year old daughter who has just gone missing.
Michael agrees to help her and gets himself into a web of family matters he did not know existed.
David Bell’s books never disappoint
Good escapism. Not overly suspenseful. Good light red.
One of the best psychological thrillers I’ve ever read. It was pulse pounding, riveting, fast paced and never boring. The twists and turns were from the first pages thru to the exciting conclusion. An intense and emotionally thrilling ride with a whole lot of crazy in between. I was hooked and so will you be!
I really enjoyed Somebody’s Daughter. This is the first book I’ve read by David Bell, but after meeting him twice, I just knew that I’d love his writing.
This book takes place over the course of 12 hours. The book did seem to move slowly to me at first, hence the 4 stars, but after it got to a certain point it just flew by. The characters are all very real, flaws and all. Lots of secrets come out, and the twist at the end – wow. I didn’t see it coming!
This book is a MUST READ. Move over Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, there is a darker psychological thriller on the scene. Someone has secrets, somebody knows. I was not on the edge of my seat, I read pacing the floor Unable to get comfortable. Doubting myself and the people I trust and think I know so well. This is the dark side I am still pale , shaky. Unable to shake the feeling of unease.
A woman walks her dog and, for a moment, loses sight of her daughter.
The first 48hours are vital when a child goes missing…..
Somebody is lying. The plot and characters so well thought out, you are no longer reading, you are there. I dare you to read this, if you aren’t too afraid of what might happen!
