It’s one of the rules of the rock and roll road: the musicians snub the roadies because they’re uncultured grunts, and the roadies hate the musicians because they’re spoiled brats.
Meet Tryp, the rock star drummer for Killer Valentine, the hottest band on the planet. He’s young, he’s rich, and his whirlwind life of liquor, women, and screaming crowds is perfect, just as long as he never sobers … never sobers up.
Elfie Tilsi has been a pyrotechnics technician (don’t call her a “roadie.”) with the breaking-out rock band Killer Valentine for two years, ever since she ran away from home.
The musicians of Killer Valentine are starting to crack from the unrelenting stress and limitless excess of touring. When the band manager tasks Elfie with babysitting Tryp, she tries being a little kind to him and quickly discovers that his problems are far deeper than the rock and roll lifestyle.
Can the love of a rock drummer and the pyromaniac roadie survive?

Nice continuation of the series, good read.
The Rock Stars In Disguise (RSID) is an AWESOME series that will hook you from the first words! These contemporary romance books are so much more than you’d expect from a typical rock star romance. It pulls us fully into the world of the band Killer Valentine – an up and coming rock group full of unimaginably talented and tortured souls. Each member has their own vibrant personality and jagged flaws; Blair pours their thoughts and experiences through the pages and embeds them directly into your brain (it’s amazing).
These musos are brilliant and broken in unique and complicated ways. I’m a fan of Blair Babylon’s writing style and imagination – I’ve found her to be a first-rate storyteller across a multitude of series. Her books are well planned out, meticulously detailed, and superbly executed. Every story is emotional and intense. I was on a crazy-intense roller coaster of feels right from the start!
This book is about Tryp and Elfie, and is the second story in the RSID series. Tryp, KV’s drummer, is outwardly living the rock star lifestyle, at times barely functional due to drug and alcohol abuse and past hurt. Elfie is the band’s pyrotechnics engineer, bribed by the manager into the additional job of “handling” Tryp and try to keep him out of trouble (or at the very least, alive). She’s smart, independent, and blows things up for a living. Elfie wants nothing to do with Tryp other than as a means to an end for her own long-term goals. She hasn’t had an easy life either, but she is a good person and treats him kindly (even when he’s a mess). She soon realizes that there is much more to Tryp and his vices than she could have ever imagined. Slowly, Tryp and Elfie learn to trust each other (and themselves), and start working together to excise their demons. They find that they are stronger than they know, and better together. They deserve their HEA, but in true Blair style, those traumas won’t be going down without a fight!
This book took a turn I didn’t expect. But it ended well so it turned out ok. I loved Elfie. Her character was so strong and perfect for Tryp. I loved their chemistry. Great story!
A little about me before I continue with my review… I have over 800 unread books on my Kindle. I download books I find interesting left and right in addition to my KU list that is usually bursting at the seams. When I finish one book I will randomly choose another (page 80 book 2) and read it. So, I don;t typically know what the book I’m starting is about and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I thought it was going to be a simple story where Tryp and Elfie find love in spite of the cast system in their chosen professions, and it is, but it is also so much more than that. The story was well researched and detailed in a way that wasn’t boring or too much. (I know more about pyrotechnics now than I did before. ) Tryp and Elfie are both beautifully complex characters that were easy to like. There were no cringeworthy moments, no cheating drama. These two are simply good people who had traumatic childhoods and are doing their best to persevere. It was a short story and I liked it enough to continue with the series. My only issue was that there were too many typos (hence 4 stars).
love the book
Wonderful
The whole book was decently well written till the ending which could have been better written
Somebody To Love is an engaging rockstar romance that puts you through all the feels. I’ve read a lot of rockstar books and for some reason, I always like the drummers’ stories best. This book is no different as I loved the characters and the storyline. I fell in-love with Tryp almost immediately with my heart breaking many times over for him. He is a damaged bad boy who had quite the unique and not-so-great childhood. He is strong, but also vulnerable and protective. Elfie is feisty, caring also had a troubled past. One of the interesting things about this book is that she is one of the pyrotechnic techs on the tour. This is a profession that I was pretty clueless about and I enjoyed learning a few behind the scenes of what occurs during setting up and take down a concert set – especially when it comes to the fun flames and sparks and whatnot. Somebody To Love has likable well-developed characters, an interesting storyline, some angst, some action, and moves at a great pace. It is my first book by this author and it definitely will not be the last.
Loved this one! Unique storyline!
I love Blair Babylon’s books. This is just one more that I couldn’t put down. The subject matter of lost boys along with the rock band back drop was fun, sexy and very informative. Thanks for the interesting story!
I received Someone to Love (Rock Stars in Disguise: Tryp) from Blair Babylon as a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. I can truthfully say I was surprised by bad boy Tryp. Who would have guessed he had a soft kind soul hiding inside his rocker self. Elfie had her work cut out for her with this rock star. This is a must read book. Wait to you see what is in store for the rest of the band 🙂
(Sorry, no spoilers to be found here… I HATE reading spoilers! It takes all of the fun out of getting lost in a book.)
“Somebody to Love” is the telling of Tryp and Elfie’s tragic to triumphant story within the Rock Stars in Disguise series. Typical of author Blair Babylon’s writing, the reader will find themselves unable to put this book down, possibly losing hours of sleep until every single page has been read in one sitting. The author has truly mastered creating characters so complex and broken that the reader is left feeling emotionally raw from the roller-coaster journey on which they have been lead.
I thoroughly enjoyed “watching” these 2 broken and messed up souls come together, develop a friendship and fall in love. As their damaged pasts were revealed, their growing friendship provided them the strength and desire to not only heal and forge on, but to fall in love as well. Love truly does conquer all. Buy this book, you will NOT be sorry that you did!
While this is a stand alone novel and its plot easily followed without having first read the other books in the series, I personally would recommend reading all of the books in order of release date. In each book, the author does a magnificent job of introducing the main characters in the series, giving hints and snippets of personality types and their struggles to wet the reader’s appetite for for future books.
Another winner by Blair Babylon. As soon as I started reading I wanted to know more about Tryp and Elfie…how their story would unfold. Blair has a way of writing that brings out emotions in her characters…flawed, fighting their own personal demons, and the challenges they face to overcome them. She brings humor into her writing as well as serious moments, and of course there are the sexy parts…makes me want to keep reading!
I wrote this review in January 2015.
Love Tryp and Elfie. No cliffhanger!
Tryp is a seriously troubled rock star and Elfie is a troubled pyrotechnics technician for the band Killer Valentine. This was a great story and there is no cliffhanger.
Elfie is tasked with babysitting Tryp in addition to her duties as a pyrotechnics technician. They grow close and during the telling of their love story you learn about their troubled pasts. This story is part of the Rock Stars in Disguise series but you don’t need to have read any of the other stories to enjoy this one.
I have to say that I don’t usually read Rock Star romances but I have really enjoyed reading the books in this series. If you usually read Rock Star romances then I know you will really like this one. A word of caution – there is a lot of strong/adult language in this book. If you are offended by liberal use of four letter words this story might not be for you.
Someone to Love seriously blew my mind while sending my system into complete shock. I never anticipated on finding such an intensely and heartfelt written masterpiece that shredded my very soul. The treasure that I uncovered brought me to knees in utter surrender. There is no denying that this story will stir your soul awake and emblazed your heart. No one can hide from the depth of emotion and the tremors of shock that will echo throughout your entire being.
Elfie fled her home looking for a place where she could spread her wings and find herself. She never expected to find people who took her in with open arms and taught her a valuable trade that would help to enhance her future plans. She kept her nose down and worked hard never regretting the choices she made to get where she was. What she didn’t count on was finding herself thrust into Tryp’s life. It started out with a motivation to genuinely help him just once knowing what he was dealing with something that a person can’t handle alone. Then, things changed, or at least for her. Her motive changed to one of wanting to get to know him and help him as much as she could in order to ease his suffering. Tryp could see the difference that her courage and strength inspired in him, and he couldn’t bare to having her in his life. Will Tryp’s past destroy the beautiful promise that he can see just lurking past his vision, or will Elfie walk away before she ruins the hope that she sees reawakening from his past?
I have been wanting to know more about Tryp. He felt like a lost soul that was an immensely important part of Killer Valentine and yet he didn’t really fit in with the others. He was a beautifully unique piece f the puzzle that makes up this wildly talented band, and without him, they would lose a big piece of their heart. I also couldn’t wait to find out about Elfie. There was something so intriguing about her that I was excited for this opportunity to get to know her on a more intimate level. These two were literally made for each other, and that shone brightly in obstacle and struggle they faced. Tryp had a huge heart full f untapped love that Elfie desperately needed, and Elfie’s courage and strength spurred on Tryp’s desire to make a change that only he could bring about. These two won my heart over in no time, and I couldn’t wait to see them finally come together and realize that they completed the other in every way that matters and more.
I can never wait to get my hands on one of Blair Babylon’s books. They are incredibly extraordinary and out of this world amazing!! She is definitely one of my top favorite authors, and I treasure the opportunity to enjoy her brilliance and heart. I am looking forward to the next precious gem that she creates! I would encourage you to pick up one of her books today. You will never regret it.
We met Tryp in Rhiannon’s book, along with the other members of the band. I was so happy to see him get his own story, because there was soooo much that I wanted to know about him. He had just recently turned 21, so he was the youngest member of the band and he was cocky. I thoroughly enjoyed his friendship with Rhiannon and his quirky behavior.
In this book, we get to learn all about his past, where he came from, what cards life has dealt him and why he’s slowly killing himself with all the drugs and booze. Although I don’t remember ‘meeting’ Elfie in that first book, she has been with the band for the last two years as one of the techs, dealing with the pyros.
What happened in Tryp’s past to put him on his current path of destruction. What is Elfie running from and how did she end up being in a position of having to pour Tryp’s drunk a$$ into bed. What nightmares are they both trying to deal with. There are so many things I would like to talk about here, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else. Just believe me when I say you DON’T want to miss this one. It put some things into perspective for me and makes me want to do something to help the situations that are being dealt with, not simply as a religious person, but as a decent human being.
There is no cliff hanger and this is considered a stand-alone novel inside the Rock Stars in Disguise Series. You don’t have to read any of the other books to get the story, but I would definitely recommend that you read the books in order. Blair does a good job of weaving her characters in and out of all of her series, not just this particular one. This book didn’t flow the way all of her other books have, but I think it was simply because this was Tryp’s story and not a duplicate of her other works.
Complimentary Copy provided by Author for an honest review, but I loved it so much I bought it as well.
This book is hard-core!! It’s also the book I lost my “Blairginity” to, something I’ll never regret. I wasn’t drunk but I had a good smoke after. LOL
Tryp & Effies lives, though very different, were both heartbreaking & sad before they escaped them!! How their friendship built then grew into love was brilliantly written. They’re both fiercely protective of each other, with good reason!!
I can state with 100% honesty that I had never read another book like it before. It blew me away with the plot building, characterization & storyline. Don’t read this book thinking you’re going to be getting a ‘Rockstar Romance’, you will but you’ll be getting SO much more than that!! I highly recommend this book. It made me laugh & cry, it broke my heart but by the end it fully mended it!! Phenomenal.

Have enjoyed all the stories in this series. I am looking forward to the next. All have been worth the time of reading. I may have to start over in order.
As I have said before I love reading about the difference lives of the characters in this series.
Meeting Tryp is a bit different from everyone else though. He does not have the affluent background that the others have but he has made a name for himself by being in the band.
Him being ‘babysat’ by his roadie is the best thing that happens to him since he leads a pretty cliche rock star life that obviously is not doing him any favors.
I do wish that there was more background to Elfie though. Maybe her and tryp can have a side story hidden inside the other books…… =D
I have to say, it is weird when fictional and non fictional worlds collide. Reading about someones upbringing when it has been something you have known about in your life because of living in the same state they did.
I read this after reading a few books about Xan but it holds its own as a standalone and if you were to just read it randomly without any of the other books being read, you would be fine.
It is a great book by itself or reading it as part of the series.
