Although Billy and Brooke knew one another in high school, after graduation Billy went on to become a major league baseball pitcher and Brooke went to college. Now ten years have passed, and Billy has had to retire from baseball due to injuries, and Brooke is the general manager of a winery. Typical romance scenario: Billy and Brooke’s past won’t let them move forward to act on their obvious attraction. Then they’re in love but Brook’s past fears are a major hurdle. Then they work things out. The plot showing have they navigated their relationship’s changes is delightful and compelling. The other characters are fun and believable and compassionate. Pop, Billy’s grandfather, wants a winery so Billy buys him one. Eileen, Billy’s mother, divorced for many years, wants to try internet dating. So is Billy too good to be true? We should all have a guy like this in our lives.
I loved the setting and the interaction of the characters.
I enjoyed reading this although the ending seemed a little over the top, but I liked the characters. I may read the next in the series.
The dynamic between Brooke and Billy is electric. They have strong personalities and a few vulnerabilities that draw you into their world. The seriousness of running a vineyard and the realization of never playing baseball again is diluted with the charming and eccentric characters that surround Brooke and Billy. From the pitbull publicist, the elderly grandfather, two well-meaning mothers and an eager best friend, you will enjoy the journey of Brooke and Billy’s relationship and the grand opening of Mirassu winery.

Billy and the whole crazy, loving Turlock family are my favorite things in this book. Brooke was not an easy character to like. In the beginning, she had my sympathy for the way her former boss treats her in the opening scene. However, her attitude quickly wore away at my consideration. She’s so aloof and guarded that even as the reader, I had difficulty connecting with Brooke. I loved seeing the sweet care Billy took to show her that he wasn’t the man she thought he was, and how he gently worked his way past her defenses. The happy ever after they’re able to achieve is absolutely beautiful, I just would have preferred to see more of the big mental changes that made it possible a little earlier in the story. Now I desperately want to know more about the rest of the Turlock clan.
Typical romance. Brooke is judgmental, and a little combative. Billy just goes with the flow. I didn’t care for this story. I’m sorry.
The Brooke Miller character is so well developed. She’s quirky, stubborn, and often hilarious. When a story makes me laugh, I consider it a keeper, to be read over and over again. Give it a try. you’ll like it.
a pleasant read. don’t remember it well, I read 3 or four a week.
Not What I Expected
Well this story didn’t go like I had anticipated. I thought it would be so much more about vineyards and growing grapes, with a little romance thrown in. After agonizing many times about how the grapes HAD to be harvested – what we learn is : they were harvested. What? We certainly heard in depth about Billy and his bedroom eyes. Sorry I couldn’t finish book. I had enough of Billy. Those looking for pure romance should find this story more entertaining.
Characters are well developed but just an average book. Writing is not bad
Great read!
Thought it was going to be better than it was
Not my type of book. It was just too predictable. Not much substance in the story line.
Great baseball analogies through out this story adds to the fun. Female characters are well defined but the guys’ are stereotypes without a lot of dimension. Still a fun read.
Usual romance book.
A must read!
Did not care for this book at all. In fact didn’t even finish it. Seemed like she only cared about sex. Not my kind of book.
Nice reading
Loved this story A little bit of heat but not offensive
