Local pub owner Jemima Jane Ericson is living a lie. She’s been in love with her best friend Ethan since forever. But he fell in love with another woman, married her, and despite their tempestuous relationship and decade old divorce, JJ knows Ethan’s heart is still down for the count. And friendship is better than nothing, right?
Single dad and Jumbuck Springs chief of police, Ethan Weston, hits … Weston, hits the pub the night his ex-wife remarries and announces she wants custody of their daughter. When he wakes the next morning to find himself in JJ’s bed he’s mortified that they’d crossed a line they should never have crossed. Until JJ’s abusive ex, Shane, shows up at her door and Ethan claims he and JJ are engaged to protect her.
Both are stunned by the unravelling of their normally sane lives but suddenly it makes sense – JJ gets a deterrent and Ethan gets the respectability of a wife for any custody claims. But when JJ’s life is threatened, Ethan is forced to confront feelings that may just run much deeper than convenience…

Give me more. Cause he’s an idiot who should not be in charge of a child or a town. And she’s a coward. She should have told him shut up and kissed him after the overproof. You don’t let an idiot control the relationship. I’m living proof that two adults can not share a bed for more than a couple of nights without one of them wanting sex. And when both of them have a healthy sex drive, yeah I’d give it a week. The sex was mediocre, the characters not very likeable. I liked the Aussie stuff. I’d rather you act like that life and language is familiar to me than give me a book that sounds like a travel guide.
Hot, hot, hot!!
Ethan’s been burned once too many, so he’s determined to just live a quiet life and raise his beautiful daughter. His best friend, JJ, understands this, so she keeps her decades-long crush on him to herself. Until the day that he happens to be there when her violent ex reappears. Suddenly, police chief Ethan just can’t stop himself from declaring that JJ is under his protection because he’s engaged to her.
Now how do they pull that off in a small town where everyone knows who’s had whom for breakfast? And what do they tell his young, impressionable daughter? Or his ex-wife? Things go from hot and steamy to oh-so-complicated in the blink of an eye, and I loved every single bit of it.
There’s lots of self-examination as both Ethan and JJ struggle with the implications of allowing their friendship to include new benefits, along with plenty of action as they all try to stay one step ahead of JJ’s smarmy ex-boyfriend. The stunning conclusion was heart-stopping and absolutely perfect, giving us a long-awaited HEA for everyone.
Realistic characters, steamy. Couldn’t put down.
3.5. Some Girls Lie is the fourth book in the Outback Heat series and is all about the oldest Weston brother, Ethan, and his best friend, JJ. They’ve crossed a line and there’s no going back. One wants to go back, the other doesn’t. Who will win the battle of wills?
I don’t often read an entire series back-to-back, but I had no trouble reading the Outback Heat series that way. Each book was better than the last. Some Girls Lie had a little bit of everything. In some ways, it was a typical friends-to-lovers trope but there were some unexpected happenings along the way which kept things from getting too routine. If you’ve read the previous books in the series, you already know much of the background. If not, there is enough given that you can follow along without missing a beat. Ethan is the stoic, big brother who everyone counts on. He earned his nickname, Mr. Serious, honestly. In this one, Ethan breaks many of his own rules and it’s so fun to watch happen.
Like the others in the series, Some Girls Lie is a quick, fun, little bit sassy, and entertaining read. The setting of the Australian outback just adds to the fun.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was easy to follow I do not like books with a lot of characters.
I bought this online and then took it off my read list because of the picture on the front I realized it probably was something I wanted no part of.
Long time friends to lovers story. Ethan and JJ start their new relationship as a pretence, however, she has always loved him. the story has some suspense, steam and a man that finally comes to his senses.
I like Amy Andrews but this was not her best. It was well written and edited but I didn’t like the characters. Way too much angst and should-I, shouldn’t-I on both the hero and heroine’s parts. Kids are so hard to portray realistically but Ethan’s son was ok. I also always hate it when exes are so awful and have no redeeming traits. Unfortunately not a keeper but I will keep reading her other books.
More Than Friends
HI and Ethan have been friends forever, their mom’s were even friends, but now they are grownups. Ethan has been raising his daughter Connie pretty much by himself with help from family & JJ. JJ has been in love with him forever, but now things have changed a but.
Loved it!!
True life story. Very good
Some Girls Lie wasn’t quite what I expected but it still has a warm story to tell. We’ve seen the best friends story where they step into the romance they never thought would happen. This one is about bar keep JJ and her best friend Ethan, the cop, who have a one night stand that changes their lives forever. Ethan doesn’t believe in love after his ex-wife steps on his toes one time too many. JJ has harbored a love for Ethan forever but can’t find a way to share it with him. Good surprise ending.
I read the first Outback Heat book and loved the writing and characters. I accidentally skipped the middle two books, but I just finished this one – the fourth.
It tells the tale of unrequited love between JJ and Ethan. JJ’s had a crush on Ethan forever, and she finally gets her chance but only to help with Ethan’s custody battle.
Sometimes, all you need is an opening to get your chance, this was JJ’s.
Australian love story, good read.
Really enjoyed Ethan and JJ’s story. Sexy and steamy and suspenseful. I could hardly put it down! Gotta love a bit of friends to lovers romance! I just love Amy Andrew’s writing style. It’s so engaging and really taps into character’s emotions.
An adorable read wherein the girl that loves the boy her whole life finally lands him! A great way to spend the day with wonderful characters and a happily ever after you’ll be wishing for!
This Aussie adventure was a full on crazy between two ex-spouses with mental issues and best 30 year friends with issues it was fun waiting to see which shoe was going to drop next. Super fun with super clues as well as noisy patrons.
Ethan and JJ have been friends forever. Ethan doesn’t know it but JJ has loved him just as long. When Ethan’s ex tries to get custody of the teenage daughter, he needs to find a way to prevent that from happening. JJ’s ex has returned to town. He almost killed her the last time she saw him. She needs protection so Ethan suggests they pose as an engaged couple. It will be a solution to both their problems as long as he can keep his hands off of her.
