Enjoyed the plot and how the two main characters came together to face danger. Well-written.
Throughly enjoyed
A mix of honor, sorrow, and love. Good book!
I really enjoyed this book. Quite a good story and realistic.
loved it
Interesting story, good characters.
So much intrigued and plot twists. Wow just wow. Craziness. Lots of subterfuge. Corruption and attraction simmering below the surface. Loved how protective Ryder was of Brenna. Loved their little band of friends (Olivia, Marco and them). Didn’t see that huge plot twist coming but glad it worked itself out. I don’t know why but I felt bad for Clint. Mostly because he was manipulated and assaulted as a kid.
Before Ken dies he makes his best friend promise to look after his wife. Ryder has already fallen for Brenna. So when a string of unfortunate events occur he’ll do everything he can- to protect her but can he protect his heart? This is the second book in a row I’ve read by this author and I am impressed by the way she weaves so much emotion, tension, drama and chemistry into her characters. The plot is intriguing and makes this weekend read an entertaining page turner. As I sit here with my feet up and a cocktail I know I’m enjoying this one and you will, too. Five stars for this thoughtful, suspenseful, protective take charge hero, realistic teacher heroine romance!

This is a book you won’t be able to put down once you pick it up. It takes you through such an emotional ride, you’re heart will ache for the characters. Brenna has lost her husband who was killed in Afghanistan by enemy forces. She is trying to move forward in her life now. Ryder is her neighbor who was with her husband in Afghanistan, but she doesn’t know this. He promised her husband he would keep her safe. He makes good on his promise as Brenna’s life is in danger. This is another gripping and suspenseful romance by a very talented author. Ms. Benefiel does an amazing job of pulling you into the story and you become totally immersed in it. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Not a bad book. Characters were pretty good. The H/H seemed extremely conflicted about the loss of the heroine’s first husband. The hero almost comes across as a stalker because of his feelings for the heroine prior to even meeting her. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that but I guess everything worked out in the end.
The premise was a bit far-fetched, but it was handled well. I enjoyed this book.
I loved this book. Diana puts you into the battle in Afghanistan with Sgt Broson and his team. One of the men In the tea. Makes him pro.ose tk protect his wife from his former coworkers. He had mailed a flash drive back to his wife for safe keeping that incriminate his fellow coworkers. Sgt Bronson returns and protects her from several accidents from afar. As the year grows so does his atteaction for her. Will he finally tell her who he is? Can he keep her safe. Great story with HEA.

A year and a half after being widowed Brenna is moving on with her life. Her husband Kenny was killed during deployment in Afghanistan. Unbeknownst to Brenna her very grumpy neighbor Ryder, has a motive for living next to her, he promised her husband on his deathbed he would protect Brenna as Kenny had mailed her a flash-drive that contains some evidence of events he had witness. As Brenna decides to start living her live again, she starts experiencing some unfortunate events and the neighbor she has only seen over the past year is suddenly on hand to help her.
The story line is well thought out with twists and turns that hold you spellbound until the last page. The characters were strong, well developed, realistic and I liked that the attraction, friendship and love grows at a steady pace through out the book in between the action packed and suspenseful happenings. Surprising ending, worth reading.

Wonderful well written emotional ride. I loved this book and had a hard time setting it down. I kept telling myself just one more page, just one more chapter. I’m a sucker for a good military romance. This book has some suspense in it too.
Ryder promised his dying friend Kenny that he would look out for and protect his wife Brenna from some fallout from something Kenny was involved with back home before he deployed. Ryder was the Sargant in Charge of Kenny’s unit and Kenny’s best friend. They were deployed in Afghanistan when they were attack. Kenny was killed and Ryder was wounded. Ryder blames himself for Kenny’s death. He also feels very guilty for crushing on Kenny’s wife after Kenny read her letters to him and she sent gift packages to all the guys. Crushed with guilt Ryder gets out of the military and fulfills his buddy’s request from a distance never telling Brenna who he is. She just calls him Grumpy Neighbor.
It’s been more than a year and Brenna’s ready to shed her grief and move on with her life but she’s in danger and doesn’t even know it. Kenny’s sent her info to keep safe but died before he could tell her what it was. Now Ryder has no choice but to stick close to her to keep her safe. As he tries to keep her safe, he gets to know here even more and can’t help but fall deeper in love with her. Brenna is also deeply attracted to Ryder and falling fast but can Ryder let go of his guilt to find happiness with the woman he loves?

This is a book that tugs at your heart strings from almost the first page and once you start it I guarantee you won’t want top put it down It takes off from almost the first page and never lets you go until you turn the last page
Sgt. Ryder Bronson is career military and his best friend is a reservist from the same home town When his friend his mortally wounded on the battle field he makes Ryder promise to care for his Brenna. This isn’t just a normal request as Ken was a police officer back in their home town and he has evidence about a police shooting evidence he has sent top Brenna putting her in danger. Brenna is finally getting over the death of her husband and is starting to live her life again but she seems to be continually having close calls and he new neighbour a grumpy man if ever there was one is always there watching her. When Ryder tells her who he is and why he is there they will have to work together along with Ken’s old partner to solve the mystery of what happened and in the process they will all be put in danger as people try to keep the truth from coming out.
A well written story that once I started reading, I was not putting down until I had finished reading it. Sgt. Ryder Bronson comes back to watch over Brenna McMurtrey when her husband Kenny, gets killed in Afghanistan. With Kenny’s last breath he had asked Ryder to watch over Brenna. This story has suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping, murder, villains, crooked cops, a man who believes he does not deserve love, and two people who have to be ready to move forward with their lifes. I want to read more in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Brenna lost her husband while he was deployed but as time has passed she is now ready to move on but some strange things start happening. Ryder was with her husband when he died but before he did he ask Ryder to protect his wife because he had mailed a flash drive to her with some critical information on it and now he thinks someone is after her because he lives next door to her. Interesting story with great characters.
One of my favorites…military romances. Ryder makes a death bed promise to watch out for a comrade’s wife. Brenna just thinks she is having a bad day. Little does she know that someone is out there trying to bring her harm. He will be there to protect her. Will their budding feelings bloom into something more? I won’t spoil it. However, I will tell you that this book was so well written that I just couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next book she releases.

Solitary Man by Diane Benefiel is a standalone that delivers a multi-faceted storyline, with plenty of action, danger and intensely emotional subject matter throughout. The effects of the war in Afghanistan are detailed along with the fallout of a fatally wounded soldier. I enjoyed the dynamic between Ryder and Brenna as they dealt with grief and loss, and the unexpected attraction that developed along the way. This is a fast-paced, easy read that I’m sure many readers will find thoroughly entertaining.
