A contemporary novel with a strong suspense element from Oscar-nominated actress Meg Tilly set on a peaceful island village in the Pacific Northwest.Dumped on the eve of her wedding and looking for a quiet place to lick her emotional wounds, Maggie Harris joins her sister on Solace Island, where she hopes to recover from the stunning betrayal. At first, Maggie resists Eve’s impassioned argument … Eve’s impassioned argument about relocating permanently so the sisters can open their own local bakery. What she definitely doesn’t need on her road to recovery are Eve’s efforts to fix her up with their mysterious and alluring neighbor, Luke Benson–even if he is incredibly handsome and desirable.
Just as Maggie starts to get comfortable in her new surroundings, a car tries to run her down in the middle of the street. If it weren’t for Luke’s extremely quick reflexes, Maggie could have been killed, leading her to wonder just who exactly Luke Benson really is…
Luke thought he’d left the violence of the high risk security world behind. But he can’t stand by while Maggie’s life is threatened. Luke will do anything to keep her safe–even moving Maggie and her sister into his house with its state-of-the-art security features. But with the secrets between them and an unknown threat stalking her heels, Luke will have to think fast to prove to Maggie that she can trust him with her life–and with her heart.

A high-energy page-turner that delivers a feisty heroine, a sexy hero, a lot of warm-hearted romantic-comedy and some very chilling suspense — all done with a fresh, modern edge.
Solace Island is a fun, super-sexy, atmospheric romance with enough laughs and suspense to keep you turning the pages! You’ll feel like you’re on Solace Island too, eating all the delicious organic foods, feeling the salt in the air and the sand beneath your feet. Maggie is a vulnerable sweetheart, and Luke…oh my Luke. (I hope his buddies get stories too!) Recommended!
Fast-paced and fun, great reading entertainment.
You may know Meg Tilly for her acting, but she’s also a fabulous writer! Lots of depth to her characters and just enough suspense to keep you turning pages late into the night…. 🙂
This romantic suspense kept me on the edge of my seat (the bad guy was not who I thought) but there was also a sweetness to the story that makes it great for cuddling up with on a rainy afternoon.
A powerful start to a great series! I read the third book first and then immediately started this one. I love how it’s a contemporary romance for the first 2/3 of the book, then it turns into a suspenseful romance! Two strangers that moved to Solace Island for a fresh start after equally traumatizing breakups, who then become neighbors and friends.
Maggie is on vacation with her sister, trying to decide what to do with her life after her fiancee dumps her the day before their wedding. Luke was conned by his fiancee, resulting in a gunshot wound that haunts him daily. When these two join forces at the local farmers market, a bond forms, leading to undeniable chemistry.
This book took me for a while ride that I didn’t want to end. I loved the dynamic between Eve and Maggie (I can’t wait to read Eve’s story next!) Luke is charming in his protective, gruff kind of way. An overall entertaining book that will have you on the edge of your seat!
I picked up Cliff’s Edge and thought I better read the first book of the series, Solace Island. Wow! I’m so glad I did. This may be considered a contemporary romance novel, but it can also fit into the mystery genre. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. There’s touches of humor, family, a very sexy hero and suspense. And the plot twist….I really didn’t see the ending playing out the way it did. Well done Meg Tilly. You have me hooked and can’t wait to start Cliff’s Edge.
Solace Island sparkles with the winning combination of mystery and romance sprinkled with humor and a very sexy hero. What’s not to love?
First time reading Meg T illy. It was a great book. Wish I could get my library to c very her
If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, you will love Solace Island. Meg Tilly is a phenomenal storyteller; with loads of energy, emotion and a side of wit, she weaves together her books. This one you will not want to put down! This is the first in the series and a wild ride. I highly recommend!
A really wonderful book… trust the good reviews. The story is well written, you can identify with the characters- it just GOOD!!
I’m not sure I would have discovered this book if not for the fact that the author is Meg Tilly, Canadian actress extraordinaire, best known for Agnes of God (excellent film) – and that’s a shame. Solace Island, originally published under a pen name, is an entertaining and sexy romantic suspense set in the US. Tilly captures the essence of the region (Solace Island reminded me a lot of Canadian islands in the PNW) and the story and her voice suit contemporary romance to a tee. Enjoy Solace Island!
I listened to the audio version of this book. I’ve been meaning to read it for awhile, and was really excited to listen to it. I didn’t know that it was the author’s first book in this genre and I’m glad I didn’t know, because I went into it with no preconceived prejudices against it.
I really liked this book. I don’t do suspense all that often, but I love romance. There were some complaints about the sex by some reviewers, but I thought those scenes were very well done. I also thought that the mystery/suspense part was fairly strong. I’m not sure where the complaints came from for that.
I loved the relationship of the two sisters and the woman/man relationship. They were both well portrayed. As far as the suspense and the resolution, it was definitely a surprise ending for me…and of course, I thought I had it all figured out. The narration was great. My only complaint was the difference in volume levels throughout. That’s on me though, for trying to listen while going to sleep. I will definitely read more by Sara Flynn/Meg Tilly.
What a great read!
A story of a woman who finds her grit, plus there’s some sexy time!
I received the book on Thursday, read the whole book on Friday ~ did not put it down. I greatly enjoyed it. I deal with chronic, debilitating pain, which limits my ability to concentrate. I have so many books, partially read, that I stopped reading because I just couldn’t get into them and couldn’t be bothered to continue trying. I had no problems with this one. I want to move to the Island. None of the characters are perfect, but they are likable and perfect together. As a female, I love the male lead. I want to be friends with the female lead and a sister to her sister. If I were a male, I would want to be in a relationship with the female lead, be a friend to the male lead and have the sister be my sister. I did not determine all the antagonists until I read about them. The writing style is fun and witty, quick paced and engaging. I look forward to enjoying more of Meg Tilly’s books in the future.
Please note, I won the book in a competition, under no obligation for a review. I just enjoyed it.
Loved this book. Look forward to her next book
Meg Tilly is so talented. She was a professional dancer, then an actor, and now I find she is a gifted author!
I was drawn into the story from the first sentence. Maggie was at her bachelorette party, when she receives a phone call from her fiancé, Brett, calling off their wedding the next day! The story goes from there and takes the reader to Solace Island where Maggie’s sister, Eve, hopes to help Maggie find peace.
Luke is a resident on the island and there is a connection immediately when he first set his eyes on Maggie. The electricity sparks off the pages between these two characters.
The author’s description of the island and the houses had me wanting to visit this special place. The description of the food and bakery items cooked brought me into the story even further. (I really want an apple tart!) The in-depth character development had me knowing the people in the story to such a level that I was laughing uncontrollably and then crying in the next chapter. (At which point I had to stop to regroup before reading on.) I fell in love with Luke’s dog, Samson. he is a main character in this book and truly deserves that place.
I cannot write a review that is good enough for this book. Please find a copy, buy it, and read it without delay! I think you will not be disappointed.
In Solace Island Ms. Tilly brings us a perfectly concocted romantic suspense story that not only warms the heart, but also thrills too! I thoroughly enjoyed this one, from the very first page I was pulled in, and transported to the picturesque private little island, and into the lives of it’s charismatic residents. It’s an evenly paced story line, that comes with some intriguing drama, witty humor, knee weakening romance, and of course an suspenseful element that keeps things engaging. This beautifully crafted tale is one that should not be missed, within it’s pages lies a unforgettable literary journey that will leave you aching for more! Highly recommend!!
I received an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Maggie Harris is going to Solace Island for a three week vacation with her sister Eve. Maggie needs this break big time. She has just been jilted the night before her wedding by her long time fiance. What a mess! He is also her business partner and doesn’t want to buy out her interest in the business. He doesn’t have the money to and can’t get a loan. Too bad! If he doesn’t buy her out Maggie will sell to Pondstone Inc., a business that has been interested in buying the company. She will worry more about all that after she finds her way to the cottage she and Eve rented. The fog on Solace Island turns so thick after Maggie arrives on the ferry that she soon becomes lost. Along comes island resident Luke Benson and his wolfhound Samson to save the day and give Maggie directions. Turns out that Luke is not only a hot sexy hunk but he is also a neighbor. And a former security guru. That just might come in handy. Maggie is going to need his help after almost getting run over by a speeding car. Luke is suspicious. Are Luke’s suspicions warrented? Read this story to find out.
Solace Island is the first book in author Meg Tilly’s Solacce Island Series. She grabs the reader’s attention from the very beginning and her fast-paced plot will keep readers eagerly turning pages until the very end. Her storyline runs smoothly and her ability to paint her characters realistically adds much to this book. I loved her descriptions and introduction to what sounds like a truly beautiful island in the Pacific Northwest. I totally enjoyed the thrills and suspense in this story as well as the relationship development between Maggie and Luke. I am looking forward to more stories in this series.
