A book that will take a little bit of your soul with it, I cannot think of a book that I’ve read recently that packs so much intricate detail and emotion into one incredible story! Lady Fenn goes through so much throughout the chapters that every time I think a scene was too much, then BAM, something else hits her. The three men, the general, the doctor, and the soldier, I just couldn’t decide which was the more reprehensible of the three, but they each took pieces of Lumen whether she wanted them to or not. Colin gave her pure love and I think that love is all that keeps her going. I know that war makes monsters out of men, but the words in this book bring humanity back to the monsters. I’m ready to dive into part two right now because I’m just not ready to let them go yet!
I love this book and this world that Kathryn Moon has created. I devoured these books in 2 days! They’re unique and sexy and impossible to put down. KM has a specific writing voice that I absolutely love and this is just another example of her fabulous writing.
Once again, this author never fails to surprise me with her stories. It is not what I was expecting at all. I know I went into reading this story blind. She is one of the few authors that I didn’t read the blurb because I know that whatever genre or trope, it will be amazing like the previous books that I’ve read from her. Aside from great writing and story telling, this author knows how to write really good sexy scene. It is not over the top or usual kind of sexy; it will grip you with its building intensity and burn you oh so right.
Without giving too many details, Sol & Lune is set in a war torn country and follows old ways and beliefs. There is a smooth flow in the story and oftentimes, I find myself stopping for a few minutes just to savor a moment or a scene. It is that good! I feel like I’m watching an old war movie with the way the author depicted this world. The characters are well fleshed out that I was able to differentiate them and I would like really to get to know them more in the next book.
This story was an emotional ride for me: I got angry, I cried, I fell in love, repeat. This has all the feels, angst, pure longing and piercing yearning, I felt it the most with her relationship with Westbrook, Brink and even with Jones. My heart broke with that scene between Lumen and Colin. I was ugly crying! I couldn’t help it.
All in all, I recommend it to everyone who loves a great romance read. Read it. You’ll love it.
This story is one of the best I have ever read. The author has a gift for creating compelling characters and Lumen and her men are no exception. This book had me reading late into the night, reaching for one more chapter even though I was missing much needed sleep. Lumen, Colin, and Gideon are my absolute favorite characters in the book, but the whole cast is amazing. These are dimensional, complicated beings with messy lives and feelings. There are no easy answers to be found here, and that is part of what makes this story draw the reader in. It is not predictable. You don’t know what will happen, next, and that adds so much to the flavor of this book. Even though this is book one with more to follow, it ends at a point where you could walk away if you wanted to. However, I cannot wait to read the next installment. This book is SO GOOD!
Holy Mother Lune… what a tale! A raunchy yet emotional story of devotion, of sacrifice and of self discovery. FMC Lumen lights the way through her fears, past her hopes and onto her destiny dragging the unsuspecting with her. What will become of them all as the war moves? A must read – looking forward to more Sol & Lune!

This is not your typical Kathryn Moon book, not even by her standards, for those on her facebook group when she started this she said “I’m doing a thing, which is different from the things I’ve done before, I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it in a proper way.” Well she finished it, and excelled at it too.
This book is dark, is gritty, it has very dubious consent and it has betrayal of several different kinds. It is not for the faint of heart.
It’s a book about war, about faith, fondness, love and what all those mixed together do to one person.
It was a very hard read for me, I don’t like historical, I like my books to have at least showers and electricity (or some magical equivalent) and throw a war and a siege on top of that made it even more difficult, which reads as I read this in parts like it’s divided, on different days, unlike her other books that I could not put down until the end. My brain needed to breathe.
Nonetheless Kathryn can spin the story in a way that makes you long for the characters, be it to kill them or to soothe them. You’ll probably hate every character in this book at least once. And I mean EVERY ONE, even our heroine, Lumen, who was under siege in her own manor, was dislikable at one point or another.
For the men, Dominic, Finley and Gideon, used to war and conquering, and not silent resistance disguised as aquiescence, dealing with Lumen challanges and reshapes them, perhaps too late into the bloodthirst of war and life. They each become entangled in Lumen’s brand of silent rebellion in order to protect those she’s to take care of, her tennants, and even Colin the Stalor’s little spy. We get to see the effects she has in each man, and how that feedsback in her psyche.
It is also a story about faith, and two countries that revere opposing symbols, and what men under thoses flags do in the name of their religion.
In the end, what Lumen meant thought would be salvation at he hands of a friend, ends up as the very last blow that shatters her in pieces.
Everyone gets what they deserve, be it death, broken hearts, or a blessing by Mother Lune to keep her most devoted daughter alive, even if her spirit is broken.
We end at the place Lumen thought she should’ve gone before the war arrived at her doorstep. The Lunar Convent. With the protection of Mother Lune, but with spies hidden amongst the novices.
It is not an end that makes you feel unfinished. It stands on it’s own. But if you want to see Lumen prevail, and (hopefully) three grown men groveling and fighting to protect her, at their own detriment, then you’ll join me in eagerly waiting for the second book in this wonderful duology.
This is an honest review of an ARC copy. (For honesty sake, I thought about giving it 4 stars just because ugh no showers and dirty people, but she did the historical part too well to let my misgivings rate it any lower)
Started out so good then took some turns I thought I saw coming but I ended up still being surprised and I loved every part of the journey. The ending had me feeling the feels. I can’t decide if I liked the ending or not it could be either way for me on which day I think about it. But it is a good book and I hope that there will be a second!
OHMYGODS! This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. Lumen and her men wormed their way into my heart and took permanent residence. I can’t wait to see what faith have in store for them all in book two.
I highly recommend this book and eagerly await book two. I also highly recommend you check out the authors other books. You won’t be disappointed.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book! It is completely different of Kathryn Moon’s previous works, but it works! It is darker, characters have more flaws, but importantly it has the same well written and composed composition that Kathryn Moon’s previous works have.
This throws you into the middle of a war and will have you waring in what characters you like. At points this story is a complete tear jerker.
I received an advanced copy and am voluntarily leaving an unbiased, honest review.
This is not a light-hearted romance story. The setting takes place in the middle of a war, times are harsh and everyone is struggling to survive as best they can. There is no insta-love and the characters take time to warm up to each other. But the MC is such a genuinely good person who tries her best to help others even when they have done nothing but take from her. Lumen has her own kind of quiet strength that allows her to endure and stay true to her beliefs. I loved the book and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next. Heartbreaking read but beautifully written.
This story is flawless. The world that Moon has created is narrated so precise. You will feel like you’ve been thrown into a war torn country. The fluidity in the writing is something you don’t come across very often.
The characters give you no choice but to feel everything with them. Every detail is perfectly described. From the hunger to the lust. One moment you will think your toes are falling off from frost bite then the nest you’re gonna want to change panties.
This is probably my favorite story from this author and that’s saying something because she’s so crazy talented. If you haven’t had a chance to read her work, this is the perfect place to start.
** possible spoiler alert **
This is a book that often deals with the ugly aspects of war: what people will do to protect what is theirs – and what people will do to take what is not – and how a single individual may unknowingly have the power to influence it all.
This book was something different and not what I had expected… that isn’t to say it isn’t amazing – because it absolutely is!!! – but I feel that it is definitely in a different vein than Kathryn Moon’s other novels I have read (and I experienced a rollercoaster ride of “the feels” while reading this novel – much more so than I have with her other writings).
Sol & Lune: Book One has dynamic characters, a unique plot (and twists), and steamy sexual tension, but this book is darker, grittier, and more tears were involved (on my end) as I was reading.
I didn’t want the book to end because I did not want to accept some of the twists and paths that are set in motion… and then I remembered that this is only book one, and there will be more chances to see how things can come together! I am eager to see what other mysteries are in store in the next book in the series.
