I freaking loved this book!! Lizbit is my spirit animal, she is so adorable, awkward as hell and weird in the best way! Everything I’ve always been. More people need to teach children, teach everyone, that weird doesn’t mean bad. This is my new favorite read and the writing definitely makes me want to read more from this amazing author! I cannot believe it too me this long to find her, I am definitely a fan now! This book made me laugh out loud, so much, cry a little and just plain swoon like an awkward weirdo. I 100% recommend this book!!
“So, That Got Weird” by Amelia Kingston is so good that you start reading and can’t put it down. This isn’t your standard sports romance, it is just so much more. I didn’t anticipate how much I would love Elizabeth and Austin. They are both “weirdly” flawed but perfect together. I loved these characters so much and the epilogue just blew me away.
This was my first Amelia Kingston book, and it won’t be my last. I enjoyed her writing style, and the story between Elizabeth and Austin. There was a lot of emotion, anticipation and depth to the writing, and it left you feeling consumed by the story.

This was a new author to me and I’m glad I read. Austin & Elizabeth were such an unlikely pair, complete opposites with nothing in common except that they were both broken emotionally. Elizabeth came up with a plan to hire Austin as a sex tutor to teach her how to get past her awkwardness around men. What neither counted on was the intense chemistry that they had and how they found a connection that neither expected or wanted. There was so much back & forth between these two & I loved them together.

I really enjoyed that Elizabeth was not perfect. I also liked that even though this starts as Austin helping Elizabeth it turns into so much more. I liked that they both find what they needed out of this and get their happy ending.

Honestly, this is the most awesomely awkward love story I have ever read. The characters are well written and believable, to the point that I can see them as real and living people. Trust me socially inept never looked so sexy (especially to a former awkward nerd as myself).

This story is about Elizabeth and Austin. Elizabeth was tired of being a virgin so she decided to get someone to tutor her in sex. So, she decided to ask Austin after looking at the school’s scoreyourscores.com. He was scored as a player so Elizabeth thought he would be safe. Of course he says no when she asked, but he did change his mind because he lost his job.
Even thought the story was predictable, it was well written and the author did make you connect with the characters. I will definitely read another book by Amelia Kingston, and I recommend to give her a try.

So I was lucky enough to get to read this earlier this year as a beta reader/critique partner, and when I saw that it was getting published I immediately had to sign up and read the finished story. And just like when I read it before, I loved it. The characters, the banter, the emotion, all of it was great.
And it wasn’t just those things, I loved the sexy times as well! I loved the main character Elizabeth, I really could connect with her on the nerdiness and awkwardness. And then there’s Austin, sigh. I just really would like an Austin of my own. Sexy, smart, funny, sweet, and a good cook! Not sure what else is needed! I liked that for the most part, even when one did something to the other one that was rude or something, the way they went about figuring things out wasn’t way dramatic. It totally made sense. Although there was a time or two I’d have walked away from Austin. I was totally with Elizabeth when she would call him an ass. He totally deserved it. They came up with great nicknames, Goose and Maverick.
Finally, the epilogue was one of the best I’ve read to a story in a long time. It wasn’t too much, and it fit the whole story and characters perfectly. I really liked this book a lot, and can’t wait to read more by the author! Hoping the next book will be about Jessie, or Barbie, as Elizabeth first called her.
Adorable! I am so completely in love with this story! Austin and Elizabeth’s story was everything I didn’t know I wanted it to be! Sweet, funny, sexy and characters with a lot of depth – this story is perfect! Watching these two fall in love was amazing! FIVE STARS!
This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it! This is a New Adult book is the virgin wants to take lesson to lose her virginity trope. This trope is done so often, it can become clichéd if not done well. Elizabeth Wilde is the stereotypical awkward nerd who is so painfully shy, she is afraid she will remain alone and a virgin if she doesn’t do something drastic. She decides that she will approach Big Man on Campus, Austin Jacobs and pay him to ”tutor” her in sex. Of course, what starts out as a business transaction becomes a lot more. What made this worth reading was both Elizabeth and Austin. While they seem to be opposites, (he’s a popular jock, she a painfully shy nerd; she’s wealthy, he’s a scholarship orphan), they were very alike at their core (good people who are fearful of letting anyone close). I find that a lot of the New adult genre can be all physical love and light on the emotional side, that is not the case with this book. I will be definitely be looking for this author’s books in the future.

This is an opposites attract kind of romance. (But they have more in common then they thought.) He comes from a life of drugs and neglect and she comes from a life of wealth and privilege. Both come from loveless homes. He doesn’t believe in love and she doesn’t believe she’s worthy enough to be loved. Sounds like a match made in heaven. Her character is awkward, or in her words ‘Weird.’ She is smart and spends most of her time gaming. That is home to her. Her safe haven. She isn’t really socially awkward, but she doesn’t have the confidence to hold her head high. He has it in spades, even if he has to fake it. (Being a star athlete and all.) On the outside he is everything she isn’t, but on the inside he’s still that little boy wanting to feel loved. Together they just fit. And together they build each other up. The characters are great. In addition to the star couple, there is the fiery best friend who isn’t afraid to say whats on her mind, the idiot teammate who thinks he’s all that and the parents who expect perfection. It’s written in alternating POVs. Lots of humor. Lots of angst and and low self worth. It’s a fun story for the most part, but there are a few parts that are a little heart breaking. (Tissues may or may not be needed.) It was hard to put down. A well executed story.
*I received an ARC of this book.
A great book about embracing our uniqueness and loving others as they are. Elizabeth has grown up with wealth but no love. Austin has grown up with neither. Together these two broken people go on a journey of discovery and new beginnings. Although it is a story about college kids, it doesn’t tell a tale of immaturity. The characters are well rounded and reflect on how society treats those who appear different. It is steamy, and filled with funny conversations. It can provide inspiration to those who need a lesson in acceptance.
5 stars!
OMG, I love this book! It’s so freaking good! Funny, smart and sexy with a gorgeous NA romance, I was so entertained and I loved every single moment!
Elizabeth Wilde is a 21-year-old college senior who is, in a word, “weird”. She is awkward and clumsy, has little social life outside of online gaming, and she has no experience when it comes to men. Like… zero. And not for lack of trying. She needs help, so she turns to her campus’s hottest playboy, football star, Austin Jacobs.
“I need a tutor,” I spit out.
“I think the campus has a program for that sort of thing,” he adds helpfully.
“Not that kind of tutor.”
He’s staring at me, one eyebrow raised.
…
“Tutoring you? In what, exactly?”
I’m relieved he seems to be more curious than creeped out for the moment.
“Teaching me some social skills.”
“Like what? Exactly.” He isn’t going to let me be vague. Subtle innuendo isn’t going to work.
“Like flirting, touching, kissing. Like sex.”
Confusion morphs into something else as his eyes go wide. I’m expecting shock or maybe
repulsion. What I see is amusement.
“Did you just proposition me?”
Austin isn’t a manwhore, but he doesn’t date, and has a reputation on campus for being great in bed. He’s just the skilled, no-strings man that Elizabeth needs, and after an amusing but awkwardly uncomfortable first meeting they agree to one month of ‘tutoring’ for $5000 where Austin will help Elizabeth overcome her fears and learn some skills.
Austin throws himself straight into the job, and the two of them get down to their ‘sex syllabus’ which includes a whole lot of flirting, kissing, touching, dirty talk, lingerie and nudity. It’s funny, witty and sexy, and the banter is fantastic as their lessons morph into a genuine friendship. Austin really brings Elizabeth to life, pushing her boundaries and forcing her to go way outside of her comfort zone, and she goes along with it all like a champ.
“The sexiest asset any woman can have is confidence”…
“So you’re saying I’m screwed?” I deadpan. He laughs, his shoulders shaking with the deep, sweet sound. I can’t help but smile back at him. I’ll never get sick of that sound. Making him laugh makes me feel good.
“Well, confidence and a great rack. One out of two ain’t half bad.” His voice is sultry as he lowers his eyes down my body to my chest.
And as the two of them hang out more and more, they develop an insane chemistry that inevitably changes everything between them. It’s natural and so easy between them, and I loved watching the development of their relationship. I could feel every little shift – the glances, the smiles, the openness and the touches that are so much more meaningful than just ‘lessons’. It’s spine-tingling, and while I was busting for them to get there, I also didn’t want the wonderful anticipation to end, rereading sections just to experience it all over again. And I love when that happens while I’m reading.
“She says a single word.
“Stay.”
It’s part command and part plea.
As if there’s anything in the world that could pull me away from her right now.”
It’s so gorgeous as Elizabeth and Austin fall into a relationship that neither of them expected. Elizabeth’s awkwardness has kept her so isolated, and Austin’s tragic past has left him disbelieving in love. They are both damaged, and neither of them quite know what to do with all of their feelings, and watching them figure it out is beautifully emotional.
“I trace the curve of her full bottom lip with my thumb, my pulse quickening as desire surges through me. I want to be her hero. I kiss her fiercely, with everything I am. With everything she believes I could be.
This girl shatters me.
She gives me hope that the world isn’t exclusively pain and shit.”
It’s not a smooth ride for them though, and they both have demons to overcome, but I loved their journey and couldn’t put this book down as their story played out.
“Loving her isn’t a job. Fuck, it wasn’t even a choice.”
This is my first read by Amelia Kingston, and I really love her writing style. Funny, witty, smart and emotive, she’s given us a great story with lots of heart, and I’m really excited to check out more of her work. This is the beginning of a new series for her, and I can’t wait to continue on!
Love, love, loved it – 5 stars!

“A painfully awkward love story”
That opening line from the description was the hook, because I appear to have a fondness for awkward love stories lately and this one definitely delivered! It is all kinds of adorkably awkward goodness with a lot of heart and all the feels one could ask for.
I ADORED Elizabeth. Yes, she is all kinds of awkward, but there is a fierceness to her that doesn’t allow her to just fade away. She is sassy, sweet and I really liked the way her mind worked. Austin. I loved him. I did. He has a good heart and is a good guy, but he uses his past as a weapon, mostly against himself, but when he unleashes it, it’s brutal.
Their journey to their HEA was all kinds of awkward, sweet and frustrating goodness. They definitely had their awkward moments, OMG were there awkward, but through them they became closer and I just really enjoyed hanging with both of them. The chemistry between them was HAWT and their bantering was a lot of fun. The bumps were numerous for a variety of reasons, but I really liked how everything worked out for them.
This was my first read by the author and I really enjoyed it. The writing was engaging, the pacing good and the dual first person POV’s interesting. There are quite a few issues brought up throughout the story that could be triggers for some, but they are necessary in understanding the motivations and thoughts of the characters and were handled well. And then there are the supporting cast of characters. I ADORED Jackie. She may just be the fav and I am definitely crossing my toes she gets her own HEA. But I’m definitely on board for Jessie, Drew and Devin finding theirs as well, so lots and lots to look forward to from this author!

So, That Got Weird checked off all of my reading wish list requests. It is full of witty moments, has a ton of heart, and contains lots of smexy time to steam up your reading device or burn your book pages through the night.
While the central theme is having football jock Austin Jacobs help an intellectually awkward Elizabeth Wilde (I love the ironic name btw) out of her socially awkward shell and into her sexual goddessness, the underlying theme is really intimacy.
Both Austin and Elizabeth suffer in their own ways from this seemingly harmless, but also very emotionally charged, word. Intimacy seems like a romantic concept, but it bleeds into everyday life. Friendship, family, acquaintances, basically everyone you meet. At what level do you establish a level of intimacy – or allow someone into the depth of your personal life – and how much do you allow someone the reigns to the emotional harm they can do to you with that knowledge? With that word, both Austin and Elizabeth have struggled with intimacy in their personal life.
Austin is an orphan. He has spent a lot of time in the foster system, but thankfully not in any harmful or physically damaging homes. All Austin has ever wanted was to be to liked, to be wanted, to be loved. On the surface he’s a pretty package that wears a mask. He’ll be whatever you want him to be so he’s adaptable to his environment. People like him and that is something Elizabeth craves, fitting in. However, Austin keeps people at a distance. He never lets people in, he doesn’t date, and he doesn’t do intimacy. That is until somehow Elizabeth gets through his gates of steel.
Elizabeth has never felt normal, not even within her own family. She’s perfected invisibility, but underneath her cool exterior is a fiery woman with a big brain that has trouble shutting off. Her anxiety makes her awk-weird and her monetary status makes her seem aloof, but her life is anything but full and rich. She’d do just about anything to feel normal, even hire a tutor. She’s never had a boyfriend, she’s never really had any friends, frankly she doesn’t really know how to people. When she decides to approach Austin to tutor her in sex so that she can at least get over feeling awkward while on a date, she does her homework in picking the best man for the job. No intimacy involved, just statistics.
While Austin should feel shocked to get propositioned, he’s intrigued. Elizabeth isn’t like other girls and the longer he spends with her the more he’s drawn to what hides under her baggy clothes and cool exterior. He knows she’s not looking for long term just like he’s not looking for a girlfriend. He knows nothing last forever, so this arrangement is perfect, until he suddenly realizes she’s everything he never knew he needed.
Both Elizabeth and Austin are broken, but piece by broken piece they help heal and repair the damage that has been done to them by others and without effort they really help one another. So, That Got Weird, while a steamy romance is also quite beautiful – a real caterpillar to butterfly transformation story. I love ending my year with such a fantastic book!!
This was such a great read! I loved the characters and how well they were developed along with a wonderful storyline.
I absolutely devoured this book and was left wanting so much more of this storyline!
Another win from one of my absolute favorite authors! I’m super excited to see what is in store for the future!

I really enjoyed this book. The main characters, Austin & Elizabeth, were developed beautifully. The emotional connection between them was real, raw, and, at times, primal. The secondary characters, whether they were loved or hated, definately served a purpose. Perhaps one or two may find their way into a future book, who knows. Anyway, there were sections throughout that I felt were dragging, too over explained, or were missing.
Austin is an athlete with impressive ‘social skills’ those skills, however, are much more highly developed than anybody knows (with the exception of one long time friend). His easy banter and cocky grin allow him to blend where ever need be.
The same can not be said for Elizabeth. Weird, ackward, nerdy, delicate. These are words people use to describe her. A 21 year old never been kissed Elizabeth, pays Austin 5K to tutor her is physical intamicy ($€× tutor). Reluctantly, he agrees.
As the relationship develops between these two, it goes from tutor/student to being very much more. Austin is keenly aware of Elizabeth’s baggage. She, however, knows only the start of his.
When Elizabeth prioritizes a gaming activity over Austin and his love, it confirms what he has ALWAYS known – love doesn’t exist and there is no such thing as forever! When Elizabeth realizes her mistake, her apology is ‘too little, ALOT too late.’
Both heartbroke, and one spiralling out of control, is there a light at the end of the tunnel – that isn’t a train?
**I will note that there were issues at the end of the book that did not set well with me. Money does not solve the world’s problems, and doesn’t heal emotional wounds. It was well written though, so I begrudgingly gave 4 stars. (Really had issues with how Austin was handled at times.)

I loved this story! There’s something I love about the nerd / jock trope and this one was so fun and well done!
These characters are well drawn and complex – they feel real. Austin and Elizabeth are well matched, and don’t always make the best decisions. Their chemistry is very real, and their ‘lessons’ very quickly blur the lines between what’s emotionally real and what’s not.
HOT romance, frustrating real-life bad choices and great antagonists. Highly recommend this one!
I thoroughly enjoyed Elizabeth and Austin’s story. They both struggled in their own ways growing up and through the story they totally becoming the missing piece that the other needs. Watching them fall in love through their funny was both hot and angsty with the perfect amount of awkward. Definitely recommend!
