In a turbulent and uncertain world, the birth of two children revitalise a small Irish town and set the stage for a closer look into lives torn asunder by war.
When Dr. Richard Buckley returns home to his wife and beloved hometown of Dunderrig, his mind is wearied by the ravages of The Great War. Disillusioned by the horror and pointlessness of battle, his civilian transition strains more than … more than just his state of mind, as his marriage crumbles beneath the weight of duty. Out of the rubble of this doomed relationship, twins James and Juliet arrive—born into an uncertain and hostile new world. Against the backdrop of this idyllic town, this story takes you to the furthest reaches of Nazi occupied Europe. James and Juliet come of age in a world on the brink of chaos, where the remnants of rebellion at home have snowballed into the horrors of yet another world war.
Historically rich and moving, the tale of two children from the Irish countryside caught in the throes of wartime Europe is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and its willingness to endure. Experience this critical time in history like never before in So Much Owed.

I absolutely loved this book! The twins were so precious and their French nanny was fabulous as the twins grew up to be their own people. I love World War II and I love Ireland so it was great for me!!!
This is an enjoyable read. It combines love, family problems, hypocrisy, and the tragedies of war, ending pleasantly.
Really enjoyed the characters as I have in every one of these books. I’m always looking forward to the next publication.
I have read all of Jean granger book. She writes mostly in an Irish setting. This is one of my favorites. It’s based on true happenings during the time of
“the Troubles” it’s historical fiction and tell the story of what people went through in those times in the forties. There is action and a love story but not gushy stuff.
I can recommend this …
This was one of Grainger’s very best. I’ve recommended this to many and
my copy is still making the rounds.
So Much Owed – An awesome, must read book. WWII is the time frame and the story is set in Ireland and England. Interesting, multidimensional characters that keep the reader caring about them and their journey during the war. There’s past history, WWI and the Troubles, faced by some of the characters that shape the decisions made during WWII. The …
Gripping saga of a family’s engagement in WW1 and WW2 from an Irish perspective.
I enjoyed the story line and characters. It got a little long in some places but I enjoyed reading how it all played out.
Despite the topic, this book is easy to read with a predictable storyline.
Could not put it down
This was a story of a family caught between two world wars. Living in Ireland family members are torn in a love hate relationship with England and viewed as traitors if they side with England against Germany. Also a story of twins each caught in The intrigues of war and spying. I enjoyed this novel very much.
A gripping story, hard to put down
I just stumbled across this author, excellent t style of character development and depth of story. She moves the story line quite quickly, but the reader never loses track.
I didn’t like this book.
Enjoyed the characters and the history scenario.
