I enjoyed this book a great deal. This is one of those that you can’t put down because you have to see what is going to happen next. I love the mixture of love, passion, faith and history. The love story tugs at your heart with moderate suspense. If you’ve ever experienced the heartaches of love then you will be able to relate to that while reading this book. I’ve found another favorite Author in Amber Lynn Perry.
I’ve been loving this series. It’s shown me a view of the Revolutionary War from the perspective of the everyday woman, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next and the next!
Numerous novels have been penned about the events surrounding America’s fight for independence. Amber Perry’s book, “So Fair a Lady”, is a lovely addition to anyone’s shelves who are fans of this time period.
“So Fair a Lady” takes us on a dangerous flight and fight for freedom, faith and family. Romance and suspense tangle together, pushing one another to reach the forefront.
As a heroine, Eliza lives up to the title of this book. She is most definitely a fair lady. Not only is Eliza beautiful physically, she is kind, ladylike, steady, and gentle. I really admired her. She also has a good relationship with her sister, Kitty. They are best friends and reminded me a little of sisters from Jane Austen’s novels. Eliza’s character was pretty well-rounded and I felt like I got to know her. She would make a great friend. The hero, Thomas, is a gentleman; good looking, godly, and good-humored! 🙂 Even after saying all that, he was still a little bit of a mystery to me. I never got to know him below the surface much. We get glimpses of his personal life in his print shop at the beginning of the novel, but never accompany him back there again. Each of these characters has a personal faith in God. I liked how they both prayed about situations, listened to God’s voice and took Him seriously.
If you are a fan of a strong, villain voice in a novel then you will enjoy this book immensely. Right from the beginning Samuel is always there; a real thorn in the side and threat to the souls of our hero and heroine. His possessiveness and thirst for power, steadily progress throughout the pages of the story turning into an obsession.
The supporting cast was well-written spending quality time on the pages without upstaging the main characters. I understand that book two will have these people as main characters.
Within the pages of “So Fair a Lady”, one gets tasteful, passionate romance. Hot on its heals is danger approaching round the corner. Amber Perry has an equal balance between the two. I’ve never been a big suspense fan and like either a small amount or none at all in my romance novels. If you love both, then this book will hit the spot. The romance and passion were simmering throughout the novel and written in a similar style of authors Jody Hedlund and Karen Witemeyer. I really loved the ending, but won’t give any spoilers!
Some of my favorite parts of this novel were the tidbits of American history woven throughout the pages. Personally, I wish there would have been more history and less suspense. The stuff that was there made me really admire the patriots for all their sacrifices and the things they had to endure for the sake of freedom. Eliza’s dilemma of supporting the crown of England or turning to the patriots’ cause really made me stop and think. Now days it seems like an obvious decision. Those future Americans, though, had really tough choices to make; possibly liberty or death.
“So Fair a Lady” is certain to grace the keeper shelf in many personal libraries.
