When Caroline Whitney receives word that the brother she thought was dead is in fact a prisoner of war, she is frantic to rescue him. On the way to find help, she hides from the Redcoats, but is quickly discovered by a rugged British soldier who claims she must go with him, or be tried for espionage. The world would tell her this man is the enemy, but the veiled secrets in her captor’s eyes … reveal he is more than he seems. If she fails to trust, more could be endangered than her life—her heart is bound to be broken a second time.
As a double agent in the service of Washington, British Captain James Higley must keep his true convictions a secret or face being killed as a traitor. On his newest mission, he discovers a courageous woman hiding in a barn, and is forced to capture her, or both their lives will be in jeopardy. When she offers her compliance in exchange for help in finding her brother, he accepts, despite his inner warnings. He must keep his distance from this alluring Patriot, or risk revealing not only his identity, but the true feelings of his heart.

What a fabulous story! This is the first book by Amber Lynn Perry that I have read and I can’t believe I haven’t read her books sooner since I love historical romance. This is the fifth and last book in the Daughters of His Kingdom series. It can be read as a stand-alone but, if you’ve not read the series previously, I recommend at least reading through the book blurbs of the first four books prior to reading this one so that the you become familiar with the protagonists of those stories. They are all intricately intertwined in this story. The writing is authentic and easy to follow, the plot is well-crafted and suspenseful at times, the characters are simply lovely, and the element of faith is consistent in the characters’ lives. If you enjoy historical romance set during Revolutionary War time, you will absolutely love this book.
Caroline, a stubborn, intelligent, opinionated, and somewhat reckless Patriot, finds herself in a daze of grief, confusion, and anger when her world falls apart with her brother’s death in the Continental Army and with being captured as a “spy” by the British. James, a British Army captain who is a double agent for the Continental Army, is a kind, tender, intelligent, compassionate man who tasks himself to protect Caroline when he sees no other way of helping her. Both have hearts full of love that only each other can unlock but mistrust, deception, and pain from the past all become stumbling blocks. There are some heart-wrenching and tender scenes in the book that are unforgettable.
Now I must go back and read the other books in the series….
I was given a copy of the book by the author/publisher via JustRead Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
This story had me on the edge of my seat and turning pages so rapidly that I may have gotten a paper-cut had I not been reading a digital copy. I was so deeply invested in the lives of these characters, I often found myself talking to my e-reader as if they could hear me.
With moments of laughter, unexpected twists, and dynamic characters that take a hold of your heart. This story is an important reminder that Liberty is more than a gift, it is a hard-earned privilege that the founders of this country fought for and believed in. You won’t want to miss this story and the journey within the pages that you won’t soon forget!
Amber Lynn Perry breaths life into the page with her stories. I am always excited to discover that a new story is available because I know that I am in for not just a delightful story that will captivate my senses, but one that is overflowing with emotion and intrigue. Be sure to pre-order your copy today!

Whew… allow my heart a moment to settle down after the end of this one! While I had no problems reading this book without having read the others in the series, I’m wishing I had because Amber Lynn Perry sure knows how to suck you in to a book! I finished the entire thing in a day. This author is certainly being added to my follow pile!
James and Caroline are thrown together by chance, but their story unfolds as if it was always meant to be. Their story unfolds in a unique way in that while they’ve just met, they are able to somehow figure out ways to accomplish what they intend. Nothing appears to come easy for them, and not always knowing how the other will act certainly causes some anxiety. What’s interesting is their ability to “roll with the punches” and adapt with whatever obstacles are thrown at them.
This is a review that will be shorter than most simply because I don’t want to spoil anything in the story. Be prepared to be caught by surprising turns of events often. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to read when you open it up, because you won’t want to put it down! At the end of the book the author states that she will be starting a new series as a spinoff of this one, so I’m sure I’ll be keeping my eye out for that one!

British Captain James Higley makes the decision to support the Patriot cause long before the Revolutionary War officially starts. Six years later, the war is underway, and James is a spy in service to Washington. While on a mission he is forced to kidnap Caroline Whitney, a Patriot who is in danger of being put on trial by the British. As they make their way to Boston they strike a bargain. She agrees to cooperate as long as James helps her to free her brother Enoch, a Patriot soldier imprisoned there. With danger constantly near, they have to learn to rely on each other despite their seemingly different loyalties. As their feelings grow stronger for each other, their hearts and minds become more conflicted than ever.
As usual, Amber Lynn Perry writes with such drama and rich descriptions! The way that the story of James, Caroline, and Enoch concludes is so exciting! I feel as though I’m being transported back in time almost 250 years ago, personally witnessing the grave danger the came to both soldiers and everyday citizens. I am in awe of the bravery and boldness shown by both the characters in this whole series and by the real names and faces of the Revolution, some of whom were never rich or famous. As James says at the beginning of the story, “Liberty is the eternal gift. With it, we have everything. Without, naught at all.” This perfectly captures the hope and message of the Daughters of His Kingdom series, and I highly recommend reading all of them, and in order!
I received a copy of this book from the author and am under no obligation to provide a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Amber Lynn Perry has set her Daughters of His Kingdom series in my favorite historical era, that of the American Revolution. Not only will these stories capture your interest and entertain, but they will cause you to reflect on the values of freedom and liberty, as well as the sacrifice of brave men and women who fought for those values.
So Bright a Hope is rich in historical detail, as is Perry’s passion for this time period. I couldn’t help but be drawn to both lead characters – Captain James Higley of the British military, a man of honor, courage, and skill who is much more than he seems; and Caroline, a Patriot determined to get to her prisoner-of-war brother. Romance fans will love the chemistry between these two.
The pace is swift, with plenty of suspense, intrigue, adventure and drama. While I might wish for the absence of the Redcoat Greene, a cunning and evil villain, he is essential to the story. But there’s also inspiration, humor, and a steady thread of hope. The author has created many memorable characters throughout the series and I especially loved how they were all connected. There’s some great twists in this story, followed by a very satisfying conclusion.
Recommended to all who enjoy early American history.

Amber Lynn Perry once again sweeps readers into the tumult, danger, and unrest of the Revolutionary War with Patriots, Redcoats, spies, and romance.
I admit, I’ve been curious about Captain James Higley since he first appeared. There’s more to this English Army Captain than meets the eye, so it’s fitting that readers finally get to know everything.
When Caroline Whitney crosses his path, everything Captain Higley has been working toward is on the verge of discovery. People are watching him, and he is walking a fine line between loyalty and certain death.
The pace does not let up, leaving readers on the edge as James and Caroline enter a den of enemies. Yet through it all, their courage and beliefs in God and freedom are on full display.
An excellent finale to the Daughters of Kingdom series as it brings in some familiar faces while standing on its own for new readers who are just being introduced to Perry and her full-bodied stories.

A spy who isn’t a spy and the enemy who isn’t an enemy
Caroline, according to James, was a terrible liar. As in she didn’t lie well. Her face gave her away every time she tried. He, on the other hand, was in a position that his life depended on his ability to pretend.
I was made to really care for Caroline and James in So Bright a Hope. Poor Caroline had been made to believe that no man could love her the way she was. And James felt so guilty because of a grave mistake he had made in the past.
I found it interesting that the story was told from three different perspectives, the third being that of a British soldier who sought the informant passing intelligence to the rebels. This officer was a perfectly loathsome man as all good villains should be.
The romance between Caroline and James developed at a believable rate and was sweet as they helped each other to see their worth. I enjoyed Caroline’s propensity to act first and think later. She managed to create a number of dangerous situations through her impulsive actions.
There was an incident at the end of the book that I didn’t really understand. It just didn’t make sense to me. But it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book.
While it was obvious this was part of a series from the way some of the characters were referenced, I didn’t feel like I was lost for not having read the other books. I am now curious about them and may go back and read them.

Amber Lynn Perry doesn’t skimp on detail, and at times, she had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Okay, so I was actually sprawled across my bed, but I was still anxiously awaiting how the hero and heroine would escape from the latest scrape. I loved watching Caroline slowly grow to trust James, and James working to maintain his cover among the British. This was a great, action-packed read with a sweet romance. Wonderful ending to the series.

Amber Lynn Perry writes some of the best colonial America fiction books! This one has spies and romance! I loved it! I love that you get to see characters from the other books in this series in each book. It’s sad that this series is over. I definitely recommend her books!
I was given a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author, but was not required to write a review. The thoughts and comments are my own.
So Bright a Hope is a riveting and compelling look at a slice of history that shaped our country’s birth—the Revolutionary War. With a richly painted setting in Massachusetts in 1776, Amber Lynn Perry has populated this story with colorful, vividly drawn characters that come alive on the page. Her careful historical research is evident in every scene, in the terminology and language of that time, and the hardship the Patriots had to endure in their fight for independence. The main characters, Caroline and James were endearing and authentic, and I loved the interaction between them. The care that James took with Caroline was so tender, even though she was often impulsive and outspoken.
The complex plot took me on a roller coaster ride and had me turning pages far into the night. Packed with adventure, intrigue, suspense, and romance, this story also carries an inspiring message of hope, faith, courage, and optimism. This is the last book in Perry’s Daughters of His Kingdom series, and each one has been wonderful, but I feel that this is her finest writing yet. I would definitely recommend this to those who enjoy historical romantic fiction.

“I wonder if I will ever uncover the mystery of you.”
British Captain James Higley is swathed in mystique; wearing a bright red coat while shuttling secrets to the Patriots, he plays a dangerous game; one that takes his total concentration, for one false move would jeopardize lives on both sides of America’s vicious fight for freedom. The one distraction that he doesn’t need, and has escaped for years, is a beautiful woman, one whose courage and determination in the face of danger has involuntarily cracked open James’ resolution to maintain his role as her enemy.
Caroline Whitney is desperate; upon learning that her brother is imprisoned rather than dead, she impulsively flees her home to seek advice from her cousin. Upon arriving at the deserted foundry, she barely escapes notice by two British officers who happen upon the location, for a private meeting. Overhearing their conversation, she unsuccessfully tries to slip past the two Redcoats, who proceed to apprehend her as a spy. One of them is different; kinder, perhaps . . . . but it really doesn’t matter, because in the end, she is forced upon his horse in spite of his quiet admonition to trust him.
“She had no hope. She had nothing.”
Amber Lynn Perry has concluded her “Daughter of His Kingdom” series on a thrilling high note, surrounding her characters with danger and peril on every side, skillfully magnifying their courage; the kind of courage that built this “land of the free and the home of the brave”, gifting generations to come with the hope of freedom.
Amber Lynn Perry has ended the Daughters of His Kingdom series with, what I believe to be, her best work yet. The words and phrases used throughout the story are nothing short of genius. Each sentence has a meaning. Not a word is wasted. This story will grab you and take you on a journey like you have never traveled before. Emotions will be felt, and you will feel wrung out at times from the strength of a story well told. At other times throughout this book you will feel energized as you fly through the woods on horseback, and the wind carries you to the next chapter. The romance will make your heart beat faster, and cause you to quickly fall in love right alongside Caroline and James. When the last page is turned you will be fulfilled with a story well told, but bereft at having to leave those people who have leapt off the page and joined your life. You will be more knowledgeable because of the historical details. I hope you will give this work of art a chance. You won’t be sorry you did.
So Bright A Hope is a page turning story set during the Revolutionary War. It has page turning action, spies, and a love story. Every thing to make a great book. This is the final book in the series. It ended in a way that left me feeling very satisfied and a bit sad to see it end. This is a book for historical lovers and ones who love romance too.
*I was given a copy by the author and this is my honest opinion
I have loved every book by Amber Lynn Perry and So Bright A Hope is no different. She knows how to write a fabulous historical romance and her talent continues to shine through with Caroline and James.
I am so sad to say goodbye to the Daughters of his Kingdom series. I have no doubt this author will have yet another winning series in the near future. Which I cannot wait to see what that will be.
I give So Bright A Hope well-deserved 5+ stars. Well done, Amber!
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
