A stranger’s life hangs in the balance. But to save him is to risk everything. The war is drawing to a close, but the Nazis still occupy part of the Netherlands. After the losses she’s endured, war widow Cornelia is only a shadow of the woman she once was. She fights now to protect her younger brother, Johan, who lives in hiding. When Johan brings Gerrit Laninga, a wounded Dutch Resistance … wounded Dutch Resistance member, to Cornelia’s doorstep, their ives are forever altered. Although scared of the consequences of harboring a wanted man, Cornelia’s faith won’t let her turn him out.
As she nurses Gerrit back to health, she is drawn to his fierce passion and ideals, and notices a shift within herself. Gerrit’s intensity challenges her, making her want to live fully, despite the fear that constrains her. When the opportunity to join him in the Resistance presents itself, Cornelia must summon every ounce of courage imaginable.
She is as terrified of loving Gerrit as she is of losing him. But as the winter landscape thaws, so too does her heart. Will she get a second chance at true love? She fears their story will end before it even begins.

Probably Liz Tolsma’s best book ever, Snow on the Tulips is a haunting, inspiring, and rich tale of love. Not just the love of a sweetheart but of family and the Lord Himself. Knowing the story was inspired by the author’s family history during the Nazi occupation of Holland only served to make the story that much more memorable.
The characters are so realistic, so flawed and delightful, so relatable. The story itself is one we see over and over in WWII and yet it’s one I’ve never read before. Bravery in the midst of fear, determination to fight when all hope should be lost, God’s hand showing when it seems as if evil has won–it’s all in here.
Recommended for lovers of WWII fiction, for readers who love faith shining on every page without getting preachy, and for gentle romance that never goes over the top.
Not recommended for readers who prefer to pretend that there is no evil in the world for the Lord’s people to battle against.
Snow on the Tulips by Liz Tolsma is a World War II historical fiction book. Liz has written lots of books about historical fiction and was a double award winner on her first book she wrote. She likes to read, write , edit and research. World War II is almost finished. There is still so much at stake for those in Europe. Those in the Dutch Resistance do all they can to help the people that could be in danger to the Nazis. The Dutch Resistance group risk their own lives in many amazing ways. There are several people in the Dutch Resistance in the book that go above and beyond for those in need to protect and help them . The book is fast paced, romantic, historical and emotionally touching. It becomes very hard to put down. The author has done some very good research to help the reader learn about the challenges of life during World War II. The book is well written . Thank you to the author for a well written book. I was in the bookstore & someone recommended this book. I’m so glad they did. This is the first book I’ve read by Liz Tolsma. The store also had Daisies are Forever by Liz Tolsma. I bought both of them. Snow on the Tulips is set in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation. Cornelia’s brother slips out after dark and wants to cover one of the bodies with their flag. Earlier the Nazi soldiers had lined up men and shot them by the canal. He discovers one of the men is still alive. He takes him home and Cornelia is truly upset & afraid. After all she has been hiding her brother and now he brings in someone who could bring death or imprisonment for all of them. Gerritt is a member of the resistance and tries to enlist Cornelias and her brother Johan. Then Piet, her brother-in-law is sent to a work camp. There is danger, intrigue, romance and the author shows the hardships, the fears, the dangers of being in occupied Netherlands.
No one asked me to write this review and I bought the book from a local bookstore. I enjoyed the book and if you like World War II romance with faith and some suspense you will enjoy this book.
