It’s hard to know just when I became such a fan of Jim Heskett’s books but it probably started with the first “Micah Reed” book. This is not my usual genre but I will NEVER miss reading a book by this author. Not only are the lead characters so likable to me but the plot lines just work great. While still being at the top of his spy game, Layne Parrish is exactly the kind of man a young child can count on as a father. These books are top-notch and I wait eagerly for the next. Thank you, again, Jim.
If you like mystery, suspense and action then the Layne Parrish Series is for you. When Layne is not asked to do something for Daphne he is not as a whiny. In my opinion when things are his idea he is not as annoying. I find Jim Heskett a master of action, suspense and spy intrigue. I give Jim Heskett two thumbs up for throwing a twist I did not see coming, that doesn’t happen very often that I don’t see something coming. I like how Jim Heskett weaves a past case with the present case. In my opinion the way he does it doesn’t disrupt the flow of the story. I enjoy getting to know what has made Layne Parrish. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Jim Heskett returns with Layne Parrish 4.0. But this is different from the previous ones.
Layne Parrish is now a retired agent and wants nothing more than being left alone except for playing with his young daughter.
But he gets ill with acute “life-interuptus”. People are killing his former fellow agents and a few are just plain missing but are assumed dead. But he gets a call from Control, his former boss (aka Daphne), telling him his best friend, Harry, has been kidnapped. She asks him to find him, thinking he doesn’t have long to live. Then the adventure begins.
This is basically a one mission story wherein Layne attempts to locate Harry. But here is an interesting thing: an exciting back story of a previous mission is included in the book that further enlightens the reader about a previous mission that helps to explain Layne’s the current mission and why Harry was kidnapped.
You can’t go wrong the any Layne Parrish story. So get busy, OK?
Another wonderful work that left me madly swiping my Kindle until I got to the end. That made it a relatively quick read, and the only reason it took me more than one sitting was that I had to stop to actually do other things! A true thriller, with twists and turns, a terrific story, a true nail biter with a great (surprise) ending, and of course Layne Parrish, former spy and a man of many hats! Each book in this series gets better and better, and the other great thing is that they easily stand alone (although it’s best if you read them all) so you don’t need to start at the beginning of the series to get into the story! So, no spoilers; start here if you haven’t read any of the Layne Parrish stories before, now and follow the story within a story and then, when you’re done, go back for more. You won’t regret it! I received an advanced copy and this is my unsolicited, honest review!
I received an ARC from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. Lane Parrish is my favorite character that Jim Heskett writes about. He is loyal to his friends, an amazing dad, and more than deadly to his enemies. This book continues the tradition of tight writing, plenty of action and suspense, and a very unexpected ending that one has come to expect from Mr. Heskett. I also enjoy the fact that Mr. Heskett always includes details from the past that affect the current story; the way he differentiates between past and present leaves no doubt in the reader’s mind about where they are. I thoroughly enjoy reading Lane Parrish and can’t wait until the next book in the series.
I always look forward to the next Layne Parrish book and Snake Bite did not disappoint me.
Layne is enjoying watching his little girl playing in the sandbox when again he is pulled into the agency’s business.
He only gets involved because his best friend has been kidnapped. The author has a great skill in bringing the various players to live. The loving father. The retired spy feeling a bit rusty in his skills. Harry the computer Nerd having never been out in the field suddenly has to start thinking like a field agent trying to save his own life and that of his friends. And of course you have interesting villains. The agency as in the past is not 100% truthful with their facts but in their own way are trying to be helpful when they can. I didn’t see the end coming. It shows betrayal from a person Layne trusted with his live. If you like me and tend to skip the chapter heading you might want to slow down. You have individual plots happening at the same time one of them is going back 8 years in time showing what happened during that job. It all comes nicely together at the end. This book can be read as a stand-alone.
Snake Bite turns out to be a great exciting spy thriller of a read! I loved discovering just HOW good this book was going to be as I traversed pages some times holding my breath as Layne Parrish sets out to find his best friend, Harry, who was NOT equipped to be a field Op guy and endure what those types do. But no matter because that is were Layne Parrish comes in. Very exciting read. Great plot with great characters and Jim Heskett at the helm telling the story makes this book a HOME RUN!!! I highly recommend this book. All parts worked. Jim Heskett is to be commended for another read ride with Snake Bite, and it doesn’t get better than that. ENJOY!!
