Amazing! This is a sweet, passionate story that deals with some serious issues. Paisley has just moved back home and is starting her chiropractor practice. But the real reason is her father. He’s fallen off the wagon, and she’s afraid he’ll drink himself to death without her there to pull him back. And Paisley’s dad is not a jolly, cheerful drunk. Enter Smythe. He’s a former ball player, and is now a deputy in the Diamond Ridge Sheriff’s Department. They are both on a co-ed soft-ball team, and Smythe sees first hand how Paisley is treated by her dad. Already captivated by the curvy beauty, Smythe is determined that no one with treat her that way, blood or not. But having an alcoholic in your life is complicated, and just as they are getting started, Paisley and Smythe hit a road bump. But though they fell in love quickly, their love is true!
I love how Smythe is with Paisley. Kind and sweet, with a dose of OTT alpha …. but also determined to be what she needs. And I love that Paisley finally realizes that she has to put herself first sometimes, that she’s entitled to be happy.
Fun and sexy, with deep emotions. I’m going to be binge reading this series again and again!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What can I say, but baseball and mountain men. Yum! Really enjoyed this one. Quick, tragic, steamy, romantic, and meant to be. Great start to a series. Great characters as always.
I received an ARC copy from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
She can throw the balls but can he knock them out of the park for a home run
SMYTHE is the first book in the GAMES-Diamond Ridge Mountain Men series and is a sweet slide into home plate.
Smythe McCovey is now a Sheriffs Deputy in the Diamond Ridge Mountains. He played eight years of professional baseball in San Francisco after graduating college before he came to town join the force. This summer he decided to join the summer co-ed league to have some fun and enjoy himself.
Dr. Paisley Rhodes is twenty-six years old and was born and raised in the Diamond Ridge Mountains by a single father after her mother died when she was four years old. She has recently graduated as a chiropractor and come back to Montana to set up her practice in town, and to watch out for her father. When a younger Paisley showed some interest and then aptitude at baseball her father, who had played minor league baseball before his rotator cuff blew out, he glomed onto it and was determined to make her a star player. Paisley was not as intense as her father but she was a really good pitcher and got a full ride to college, offered by four places. She was also an All-American pitcher for four years. For some fun Paisley decided to join the summer co-ed softball league.
Paisley and Smythe are put on the same time, the Wolverines, and at the first practice there is a little accident with her car door and the side of his car……….darn that strong wind! But the bigger issue is that Paisley’s father has decided to become the teams coach and he is riding his daughter hard. However, Smythe is more than happy to make sure she is okay as he is really attracted to her. He is also really impressed with her pitching as she still has that All-American arm.
This is a really lovely story with a lot of emotion and deals with a heavy issue – alcohol addiction (Paisley’s father). Even though this is not a heavy story it still shows the effects that addiction can have on those around the addict and how it can impact everyone’s lives. Even as Paisley struggles in multiple ways Smythe is there for her and not trying to jump in and fix things. But as he knows she is the one for him he is not going to let her get away and will do what it takes to ensure that they stay side by side.
