I had a delightful time listening to Smooth-Talking Cowboy. I’m so happy I picked up the Gold Valley series. The series reminded me a little of The Original Heartbreakers series by Gena Showalter. Both series have this home town feel and I love that feeling.
Olivia and Luke were just too much. Olivia is prim and proper following the path her parents laid out for her. Luke is loyal, willing to work hard. All he wants is to buy land, build a house, and raise cattle.
Smooth-Talking Cowboy is enemy to lovers storyline. These two were a lot of fun together. I was rooting for them. They both had some personal issues they needed to work out while dealing with their fiery chemistry. I liked how Luke kept getting on Olivia’s nerves in a good fun way. It was spectacular watching Luke process the loss of his mother, leaving the only job he’s ever had, and learning to love.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters and their are a lot of them to enjoy.
Audio: Narrator Suzanne Elise Freeman did a wonderful job with her narration. I wasn’t a fan of the male voices, but the more I listened the more they grew on me.
Smooth-Talking Cowboy was a wonderful listen. I did have my ups and downs at the start of this novel, but ended up really enjoying. The heart to heart talks near the end had tears welling up in my eyes. I’d recommend the audiobook or reading the Gold Valley series. Can’t wait to pick up the next installment.

I can always count on a Maisey Yates book for a feel good, fun, and sexy read. This one was no exception. Loved the banter between the hero and heroine. A great start to the series.
I absolutely loved this story. I pretty much inhaled it when I first read it, and then started to read it again.
Olivia Logan and Luke Hollister just won my heart over, with their characters and with the life lessons they learned on the way. The connection between them was solid, real, passionate, and lasting. They had known each other for twenty years and through those years an odd-kind of deep-rooted friendship had developed between them that had always included a lot of teasing, banter, and arguments that had the air around them virtually vibrating.
Olivia was the ‘good twin’ that had always been very goal oriented, a plan-maker, who had stamina and guts to go after what she wanted, or what she thought would be good for her, and for the image of her that she did her best to uphold for her parents’ sake. They had enough heartache with her troubled twin, so Olivia was determined never to cause any waves, problems, or gossip that her parents had to endure because of her.
Luke is the kind of man everyone likes. He has the easy smiles, the way to smooth things over, to keep everyone happy and smiling, no drama, no deep emotions, no close relationship, and a smile that quite didn’t reach his eyes. Yet inside there was a man who had loved deeply and lost everything. He was a loyal, hard-working, kind, generous, good-hearted fella who had no need for relationships or feelings. Until Olivia’s flat tire, break up with Bennett, and the pretend boyfriend he promised to be to irritate the ex.
The heart to heart talks between Olivia and Luke, and even with Bennett, the secrets and hidden thoughts they share, the life lessons they learn, and the a-ha moments with their lives they have were insightful, inspirational, and encouraging. I love it when a story speaks to my heart and Smooth-Talking Cowboy definitely did that to me.
I fell in love with Olivia and Luke, with their loyalty, vulnerability, honesty, and eagerness to grasp for what life has to offer for them. There is so much passion, love, and tender feelings between them, so many swoon-worthy moments that had me sighing. They learn, grow, and develop as the story progress, yet their never loss that quirky banter and joy-filled humor that made me smile repeatedly. They might seem like the opposite at the first glance, but when they open up their hearts and minds to each other, there is likeness there and a conjunction that will last a lifetime.
It is no secret that I adore Maisey Yates’ writing, there is always something in her stories that hit me in my heart and stays there. Smooth-Talking cowboy is an alluring, unputdownable story that I highly recommend to all the readers who love tales with deep, ardent emotions and charming characters who are easy to relate to and who grow and thrive as the story progress.

Finding love where you least expect it! Smooth-talking cowboy is about following your heart, even if it leads you to a completely different person. All anyone has to say is that the story is based in Oregon and it’s an automatic read for me, but this was a delightful surprise.
Olivia Logan breaks up with her boyfriend in the hopes it will encourage him to step up and offer her a commitment, but plans go awry when Luke Hollister offers to make Bennett jealous. He’s always held a torch for her and isn’t willing to let the opportunity to win her over, go. A steamy romance that shows there’s more to a relationship than being comfortable. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
Cute cowboy romance.
As Olivia Logan is about to find out, sometimes the things we want aren’t the things we truly need.
25-year-old Olivia is a woman with a plan. You know the type, the ‘This is where I’ll be in 5-years’ etc. Only her ex-boyfriend put a spanner in the works *frowns*. For someone who strives to be in control of all things, failure is not an option. On a mission to win him back she hatches a plan with the last man anyone would expect ‘Good Girl’ Olivia to spend time with – well, voluntarily.
Gold Valley is the only home that 36-year-old Luke Hollister has ever truly known. If you’re *coughs* looking for a good-time-guy with no strings attached then Luke is your man *snorts* Don’t let that smile fool you though, this is a man loyal to his very core and extremely hard-working but masking a hurt few can imagine.
It’s finally time for Luke to lay down his roots and have something to call his own. Olivia could be the key to making his dreams come true so what’s a little quid pro quo between frenemies?
What is they say? The truth will out? Well, it certainly is for these two. Just being in each other’s orbit causes fissures in their carefully crafted defences. Says a lot, doesn’t it?
Both have secrets, both aren’t being true to themselves. If we can’t be honest with ourselves then what hope is there? As you can tell, I was starting to get a bit exasperated with them at this point. Lots of talking to the book ensued with promises of head knocking if they didn’t get their heads *whispers* out of you know where *smirks*
Whaaa? Puhlease! It wouldn’t be a ‘me’ review without some talking to the characters. Lalalalala *puts fingers in ears* What have I said before? They are real to me. End of.
I defy anyone not to lose a little bit of their heart to Luke. He’s totally swoon-worthy and caused spontaneous outbursts of coquettish laughter *palms face* No need to worry about me, I do enough of that on my own…Sheesh!
This was my first read by Maisey Yates and I can’t wait to return to Gold Valley.
So, what are you waiting for? Come on, you know what they say about cowboys and horses? Save a horse… okay, okay – I won’t say another word *winks*
Maisey Yates is always a great read.
I love Maisey Yates’ cowboy stories! This was a great start to the Gold Valley series. It was nice to see a few characters from the Copper Ridge series pop up, too. The main characters were fun to read about, the secondary characters were intriguing, the new town was fun to ‘get to know’, and now I can’t wait for more books!
Was a little wordy! First book of hers that I’ve read!! Was a little draggy in spots but overall good!
I liked it so much that I went back and bought a couple of copper ridge books for their background. Can’t wait for Lindy’s story
Loved this book, characters came to life and related well to each other. They changed each other in believable ways
Hard to put down
I enjoyed this book. I like to read about cowboys, their portrayed as mystical and romantic, even though I know it is not like that in the real world.
Olivia and Luke are opposites that blend together beautifully. Great characters and fun story.
Welcome to Gold Valley!
Ms. Yates has created fantastic characters in Olivia Logan and Luke Hollister. You will pull for these two to find their happily-ever-after as you watch them realize things about themselves they’ve kept hidden for years.
A must-read for the fans of her Copper Ridge series.
