I never thought a gym crush could be deadly…We all lead double lives in a way. Only the most trusted are allowed into our private space. Yet, when my reality and fantasy worlds collide one night, I end up in danger. All I wanted was an escape from reality. Being a firefighter can be stressful and I unwind at an underground goth club. I can forget about being on call for danger, and just be Nike, … for danger, and just be Nike, a woman who likes to lose herself in music and dance. But when I spot the guy I fantasized about at the rock climbing gym, he discovers my secret.
Michel has a darker one and a connection to a world I never knew existed. My life is threatened and I have to choose whether to go with Michel. How do I find a way out of this nightmare that doesn’t end with me getting burned–or worse, sucked dry by a vampire?

Smolder by Lisa Carlisle was originally published as Smoldering Nights in 2002. This review is on the revised and expanded beginning to the Underground Encounters Series.
Nike is a firefighter, one of only two women at their station house. To blow off steam on their nights off, they visit an underground goth club called Vamps.
A fire, strangely glowing eyes, and glints on sharp looking teeth, and Nike finds herself on the run with the cute guy from the rock wall climbing gym.
I really enjoyed this story. Character development was fast, but thorough, as was the world building. I cannot wait to read more in the series. Definite 4-star review.

Michel is a vampire and he has a desire to be with a young woman that works out at his rock climbing gym and dances at his club Vamps. Nike is a firefighter and she and her friend Maya like to party when they get time off work. This night is the night that she will finally get her wish because Michel actually speaks to her at the club and wants to spend time with her she explained to her friend that she wanted to spend time with Michel but was not sure Maya told her to go for it she goes to Michel’s office and they talk and kiss and just when you think the inevitable will happen a blast occurs and throws Nike for a loop but she pushes forward. Great story line as well as great characters. The ending left a lot to be desired but this is a series. I purchased this book and provided an honest review with out obligation.
This audiobook includes cursed, the prequel of the Underground Encounters Series. This short story is interesting and entertaining! The three gargoyle shifters brothers, Danton, Lucan, and Mattias, are great and intriguing characters. The story is original, and captivating, and filled with dark magic, and twists and turns. I can’t wait to listen to their story later in the series (books 5, 8 and 9). Smolder is the first book in the Series. Michel and Nike’s story is fast paced, and interesting. Bridget Bordeaux did a good job with the narration. #AudiobooksUnleashed
I came across this series just recently and I am diving in !
I really enjoyed this book. There is a lot of story packed into this story. You are given a lot of both characters history without it feeling like a background check report. Michel and Nike’s romance did not seemed push it was a natural love at first site. The story was consistent through out. It is annoying when characters are one way then fall into using different verbiage when making love. The love scenes were hot and tasteful. The language used through out the book made for an easy read.
The drama with a past friend of Michel’s kept you on edge until the end. There are several unanswered questions within the book and I am sure they will be answered in upcoming book is in this series.
So looking forward to all the upcoming books as this series unfolds.
If you like clubs, vamps, trouble well you get it all in this book and more. We have Nike who is a firefighter who along with her good friend and co-worker Maya likes going to a local club called Vamps.
Michel is much more than he seems. He it turns out owns the place and many other places that Nike has gone. He has admired her for quite awhile and now his wish may just come true.
Can Michel keep Nike safe from those who want to harm him? Well grab your copy and find out.
My favorite quote from this book:
“Are you here looking to put out some fires?”
I enjoyed this book and we get a sneaky peak at whose book is next at that end. This is i’d say a stand alone.
SMOLDER by Lisa Carlisle is the revised novella start to her Underground Encounters paranormal romance series which was originally released in 2012 as Smoldering Nights. I love Ms. Carlisle’s various series, but this novella still lacks the depth of character and originality I look for in her books.
Nike is a firefighter who loves to let off steam with her best friend, Maya on the dance floor of Vamps, the local goth night club. On one of their nights at the club, she sees the man she has a crush on from her rock climbing gym. He has a French accent, a gorgeous body and beautiful eyes. She cannot believe her luck when Michel asks her up to accompany him to a private room upstairs, but she is about to get an education in other creatures that coexist with mortals.
Michel is a nightwalker. He does not know what draws him to Nike at the club or the gym and he knows he should not get involved with a mortal, but he finds her irresistible. When he gets Nike to agree to accompany up to the private rooms, they are attacked by an old enemy right when things begin to get interesting.
Michel and Nike go on the run. The attraction is too much to resist and they begin to explore their sexual attraction and also begin to wonder if it could become more. Can they have a future or will Michel’s enemy find them once again and destroy them both?
This novella was a very quick read and a good introduction to the Underground Encounters series. Nike is a strong heroine who can stand on her own which I loved. Michel is sexy and a dream, even with the fangs. There just was not enough depth to the characters due to the shortness of the story, it was very predictable and it ended abruptly. If you have not started this series, it is a fun intro and the sex scenes are steamy, hot and well written.
