SmokeI know women. I love them and they love me.I don’t chase them; they line up and I pick out whichever takes my fancy.Only now there’s her. She’s unimpressed, disinterested. She’s different and I can’t look away.I don’t understand her, but I need to make her look. I need to make her see me and then never look away again.Sometimes the things that don’t come easily are the things that we should … that don’t come easily are the things that we should fight the hardest for, and with Riley I’m in for the fight of my life
Riley
I’ve been hurt and my heart’s still bruised.
I know who Smoke is. I’ve seen it all before, the arrogant ‘king of the world’ attitude.
So I’m mean, cold, and harsh because offense is the best defense when it comes to protecting myself.
Only what if he’s not who I think he is?
I don’t want to want him, but I just can’t help myself, and sometimes what we shouldn’t want is exactly what we need.

Riley Prince’s life is about to change and she doesn’t know the half of it. Justin “Smoke” Sanchez knows what he’s got and uses it to get what he wants. She’s a geek and he belongs to an MC. I was thankful that this book was a standalone since I’m late to the game of getting to know the Doomsday Sinners MC.
Our author has created a minor character named Al. He’s a very sweet man who Riley takes to almost immediately. She feels comfortable around him and bucks protocol because there’s just something about Riley. The only puzzle I had was Al’s boss. You get a feeling something’s there and you know he’s important to the story. Then all of a sudden his association with Riley stops. I felt that part was rushed so that the story could continue on. Plus, I was hoping that Al’s association with Riley would continue – he was never a romantic interest but he seemed like a good friend to her.
I liked watching the heat build between our couple. I also liked how feisty Riley was and that she wasn’t impressed with Smoke’s swagger. He lives in the same town as Riley’s friend whose boyfriend happens to be in the same MC. When we first meet Park and Rosie, I found myself with no choice but to put their story in my TBR list. And that means the rest of the series will follow. This book isn’t like a lot of MC stories that show the blood and violence that seems to follow that type of group. But they’re not all squeaky clean either.
By some of his action, and the supporting cast, you know this is an MC but that isn’t the main focus of the story. It’s more to show what makes Justin Smoke. We see enough of Riley’s job to see what makes her qualify as a geek. We also get to see how important her family is to her. I liked how our author makes the change from mild tolerance to something more seem so natural and believable. Who says that the geek can’t have a hottie?
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Smoke by Gemma Weir is book 5 in the Archer’s Creek Series. This is the story of Smoke and Riley. This can be a standalone book but the previous characters do intertwine in this book.
Riley just found her boyfriend has been cheating on her, so she is done with good looking playboy types. Riley is a computer programmer for electronic games so she is used to job offers that help her travel. When she gets one for Texas where her friend lives she takes it for the few months that is offered. Riley finds her friend has a boyfriend who is in the a Biker Club and one of the members is Smoke, who is everything her ex boyfriend was and more. Smoke is a man-whore who never met a women who didn’t want him, so he is taken back when Riley acts like she isn’t interested. They do a dance around each other of fighting their attraction, Smoke even continues to sleep with other women (didn’t like that) but they soon just can’t fight the attraction anymore.
Needing a break from her current situation, Riley takes a job in Texas and decides to look up her old friend Rosie. Rosie is with a member of the Doomsday Sinner MC and invited Riley to stay with them on the weekends. Riley meets Smoke and decides he is exactly like the men she needs to stay away from, they are flirts and rotate women like their underwear and she is not falling into that trap again.
Smoke thought Riley was stunning from the moment he met her, but for some reason she hates him. They get thrown together quite a bit but it always ends with Riley extending her claws and Smoke is not certain he will ever get her to change her mind. The problem is Riley really does want to give him a chance and when she finally does she realizes how wrong she was about him. What happens though when Riley’s contract is up? Will she stay or let Smoke go?
This one I liked but felt Riley was a bit wishy washy with her feelings. I also was perplexed by the job she had in this one, I felt like something was missing there. That being said overall the story was really good. I liked Smoke a lot. Great story another good one in the series.
The first half of this book I wanted to smack Smoke and Riley. They were both so stubborn and frustrating. I really thought I was going to dislike Riley, but her transformation throughout this story changed my mind.
Only a great story could bring out these kind of real feeling while reading a fictional story about a fictional character.
I love this entire series, but I do believe Smoke has taken the top spot for my favorite!
Smoke is a one and done kind of guy. Lately all his friends at the club have been settling down, and although Smoke doesn’t think it’s what he wants, he can’t help thinking change is coming. This is the 5th full length story, so If you’ve discovered the Doomsday Sinners, you know romance is in the air. With a few babies on the way and family becoming more than the brothers. Smoke is hoping for more, just not in the love department. A new job prospect is something he wants badly.
Riley is the computer genius he doesn’t see coming.
Riley is done with pretty boys. In fact Smoke ticks all the wrong boxes for her. She’s here for the job and to see an old friend. Rosie is one of the old ladies (Park’s women). She likes the lifestyle she sees around the club minus the love em n leave em attitude.
The attraction between these two may be more than just looks. Can Smoke and Riley find there happy ever after.
Back in Archer’s Creek for the latest instalment.
Smoke and Riley was a really enjoyable story, pretty much read it in one sitting.
Love how characters intertwine with pervious stories though can be read as a standalone.
Riley is the geeky computer programmer and Smoke is virtually the last single sinner in his group.
Loved catching up with the Archers creek world
This is such an excellent series and it just keeps getting better!! I think Smoke is now my favorite. He is quite the playboy and has no trouble getting women, but none he wants to keep. Then he meets Riley. He is surprised that she wants nothing to do with him. This is a great read with a hunky alpha male and a snarky heroine. Get your copy today!!
Wow this was my first story by Gemma and wow did she just blow my mind. I loved it. The way the words are written really grab you and makes you want to keep turning the pages over and over again. The nerd meets dark prince feel really rocked this story to the core everything I read was so new and exciting I couldn’t put the story down. Right to the end of this story I was hooked I cannot wait for more from this author. This is a must read, cannot stop kind of read that really grabs you over and over.
This is the first book that I have read in this series and by this writer. Wow what a book. I absolutely loved this storyline. First off I love books about bikers. But this was so much more than that . It was about family love and coming together. Smoke doesn’t know how to about Riley. Riley likes him but feels like she shouldn’t. But hold on because the sex is amazing. But is there more between them than just that? Can Smoke prove he is a good guy? Will Riley give him and Texas a chance? Well written gripping enjoyable from beginning to end. I can’t wait to read the others in this series.
Absolutely loved Smoke! This story was brilliant and possibly Gemma Weirs best one yet..
I’ve been waiting for Smokes story for ages and so pleased it was finally here. And he did not disappoint!
When Riley’s relationship ends and she gets the opportunity for a new job she decides to take it! It’s located near a good friend of hers so uses the opportunity to take on a new challenge and have a long overdue catch up with Rosie.
Rosie soon introduced Riley to her group of friends from the doomsday sinners MC, and she meets Smoke who she immediately takes a disliking to, despite his extremely good looks and determination to charm her. Smoke never gets “no’s” so is surprised and even more intrigued when Riley seems to want nothing to do with him!
Riley and Smoke’s story is fast paced, and absolutely fantastic. I loved how Riley kept him on his toes and they just worked. Their chemistry is brilliant and I was swept away by their story.
This can be read as a stand-alone. But I would highly recommend you read the other stories with connecting characters as it’s great to re-visit the rest of the MC characters!!
Another must-read from Gemma Weir!!
Lord above!!! This book had me on my last nerve!! The push and pull between Smoke and Riley had me screeching at my kindle! But I could totally relate with Riley, along with her sass and independence she carried her insecurities like a blanket of barbed wire, warding people off if they got to close. Then in swaggers Smoke! This is where the saying ‘never judge a book by its cover’, has never been more true. This man melted my heart…….along with other things!
What a great addition to this fantastic series!!
This book was my first in this series and it can be read as a stand alone, I will definitely go back and read all the others because I completely enjoyed this book. I loved the story line and the writing. Smoke is a hot alpha male that has women dropping at his feet. He knows he’s hot and takes full advantage of that said hotness. Riley is in Texas on an extended business trip. She is finished with men like Smoke, her last relationship didn’t end well. When Smoke and Riley meet she acts disinterested and it drives Smoke crazy. It’s that little old thing, you always want what you can’t have. I loved the push and pull, the angst between these two. Great book!! Great angsty romance.
OMG where I have I been?? How have I not read anything by Gemma before??? I really need to fix that A.S.A.P. and get my hands on more of these Archer Creek men!!
I was freaking hooked and my emotions were raging. The push and pull between the characters and the fight they put up to fight their chemistry had me flipping the pages quick!
Riley has been down that road with the hot playboy boyfriend and isn’t looking for another playboy. She doesn’t take Smoke’s crap and his smooth ways. Smoke is perplexed on how this woman treats him. He doesn’t know what he did and how she doesn’t want him. The road they take isn’t easy but it is definitely one that you don’t want to miss.
Now I am usually one for reading books in series order but since this is my first I can honestly say that you don’t have to and you will still love this book. You will probably feel like me though and want the others because I fell in love with these MC men.
*4,5-5 stars*
I’ve been enjoying and loving this series and it just seems to get better with each book you read! I really loved Riley and Smoke’s story. Riley was a woman after my own heart, someone who had her heart on her sleeve but didn’t let anyone mess with her in the end. I definitely didn’t want the story to end…
Riley has been in a recent bad break-up and is currently tired of her life in NY. With her being a freelance decoder gamer, she can take any job she wants and the opportunity arises for her to go to Texas, she takes it with both hands. What starts as a fresh start might end up being something she never thought would be the one thing she needed the most. But when she meets Smoke, they get off on the wrong foot but even though the attraction between them is so palpable, Riley wants nothing to do with him.
Smoke has always had women throwing them at his feet but Riley is someone completely different and that throws him ‘cuz she doesn’t want anything to do with him. Even though they get off on the wrong foot, there’s just something that keeps pulling them together. Will Riley let her guard down and will Smoke be able to make her see that there’s more than meets the eye?…
I absolutely can’t get enough of this series!! This is book 5 and although we get to catch up with previous characters, it can totally be read as a stand-alone though I highly recommend devouring them all.
I lived for the banter and the chemistry between Smoke and Riley. Their whole push and pull, love and hate situation was fantastic to read and as usual the dynamic of all the characters was perfection. It’s exactly what I needed to pull me out of my book funk.
Omg, she did it again!!! The Archers Creek series is one of my favourites ever, I’ve been waiting (or trying to wait) patiently for this one and Smoke didn’t disappoint! You just know any book that opens with an F-bomb is gonna be good, right?
Riley takes a job in Texas after a break up leaves her reeling, which is also the perfect excuse to catch up with old college room mate Rosie who lives nearby with her biker boyfriend, Park. Smoke is HOT and he knows it – women just beg to be with this guy. He’s also Parks friend. When he and Riley meet the sparks fly, but he’s everything she’s vowed to avoid. This is not your typical love story, there are so many twists that you almost want to slap them both at times, but it will melt your heart and have you laughing your head off at their antics (or maybe thats just me). Anyone whose ever been blindsided by a guy will get Riley instantly – she’s bright, funny, sassy and a little damaged, which makes her so real and I absolutely adored her. On the surface Smoke is an arrogant prick (sorry), but my God this guy is deep and such a sweetheart, it also helps that he’s HOT AF and dirty too – swoon!!!
If you’re already an Archers Creek fan you’ll love catching up with some of Gemma’s previous characters in this book, if you’re new this story can be read as a standalone too. Either way get this book on your TBR right now!!!!
I was waiting for Smoke’s book as he makes so many appearances in the other books from the series. I love every single word of this story. From the writing that kept me glued to my kindle from the first page till the last one, to the great characters and names and day jobs and all their different stories but such a perfect match. I loved the slow burn, their banter, their insecurities and every single moment spent together. The perfect love story for my favourite character.
