Wow, what a book. I am so used to Dex’s contagious sense of humor that reading the THIRDS book without it was jarring. But there wasn’t much fun in what kept happening to Sloane and Dex. Some things finally started making sense, secrets long forgotten were brought to light and I found that old sins cast long shadows.
After Sloane and Dex reunite, things turn for the worse. A seemingly separate murder opens Pandora’s Box. As Dex delves into past records, he finds out that there are those who will stop at nothing in order to further their agenda. Dex and Sloane’s lives are at stake depending on the outcome of this case. But everything is not so simple. With Dr. Shultzon taunting Sloane, Dex finally has a chance to get the answers about why his parents were killed all those years ago. So with the help of Cael, Ash and Tony, Dex and Sloane finally uncover the truth about Gina Daley. It’s heart-breaking but also in a way eerily prophetic.
After many tribulations Sloane and Dex are finally safe and ready to start their life as a married TIN operatives. Who knows what life will bring or when it all will be take away. But they are determined to make the world a better place just like Dex’s parents once tried to do. It was serious read this time around filled with many revelations and so much anguish. I loved it and can’t wait to read more about my favorite THIRDS team! I highly recommend it.
O.M.G.!!! If you are going to read Smoke and Mirrors, and you’ve followed the series so far, then be prepared for an emotional ride. Seriously, I think I have shed more tears during this part of the story than for any other instalment! The feels, people, the feels! Sloane and Dex have had a tumultuous relationship but things seem to have calmed down. Unfortunately, you know that with all the secrets that are coming out, that things will definitely rock the boat.
This book is simply amazing, with classic Dexisms throughout (I loved his conversation with Hudson!), but at the same time, absolutely heartbreaking. This book holds the answers to some questions that Dex hadn’t even allowed himself to ask. Time moves on, but hurt can remain. So many things I want to talk about, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone else, so instead, I will just say that this book is simply outstanding, and I loved every moment – even if my eyes are now red-rimmed!
Exceedingly well written once again, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. Definitely recommended by me, as well a box of tissues! If you’re anything like me, you’re going to need them!

4.5
This seventh book was definitely one of my favourites of the series. “Smoke & Mirrors” has a completely different vibe from the previous ones, and it’s so much darker and heart-wrenching. It’s still got some very funny moments, and lots of romantic and steamy ones too, but after the cliff-hanger ending of the previous book, I was expecting to have my heart broken a bit.
Dex has to suffer through so much during the events of the book and I kept wishing somebody would just hide him from the world and keep him safe. I cried alongside him and now I love him even more. We get to see a more broken side of him, a grieving one. We also get to see his relationship with Sloane develop and the results are unexpected and bittersweet at times, but also so damn precious.
I think my favourite character this time around was Maddock though. I love how tough and protective he is of his boys and I really felt for the guy at times.
This book is FULL of action and twists and shocking moments. It’s full of love and camaraderie and family, and pain and grief and betrayals. And it has the sweetest, loveliest ending.
Seven books in and I’m still loving this series. There hasn’t been a bad or just ok book yet, and I have a feeling there won’t be.
This book starts out with a bang and the pacing never gets slow. Where the last two books were largely focused on the couples that are the focus of each book, we finally get answers to a lot regarding the overarching plot, plus a little more of what’s going on between Sebastian and Hudson. There’s still more to learn and I can’t wait to see how things play out in the next books.
OMG! The first few chapters of this book had me in tears!! Dex needs Sloane more than ever. New problems come to light in this book that push their relationship to the limit. Also there is a new character that’s introduced who is both fascinating and lethal. I’ve read this entire series a few times and never get tired of it. Highly Recommend!!
It was so good to get back to Sloane and Dex’s POV for this another amazing story! Charlie Cochet spares no punches and the plot is as awesome as ever! I love where it all is going and how the characters evolve, both the MCs and those on the sidelines. Can’t wait for more, same as always!
This book 7 followed the story after the cliffhanger at the end of book 6, and again I am without words. I don’t want to spoil it for you but the plot is getting better and better because everything that happened in the story from the romance of Dex and Sloane, and other couples of the team, to the many surprises, new twists, turns and intrigue in the narration is a part of a huge mystery that kept you at the edge of your seat until the very wonderful end. Charlie Cochet is amazing creating characters, the develop of each one of them from book 1 to book 7 is brilliantly managed, the relationships, the interactions, even the hot scenes, all showed us a natural evolution that makes the series worth reading. Totally loved it!!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
No place like home
Charlie Cochet knows how to land a punch. This book twisted my emotions all over the place but I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is an amazing series and it just keeps getting better. So many twists and turns and secrets come to light, once I started reading I couldn’t put it down.
“He’s given me his heart, and along with it, his trust. I won’t betray either.” Throughout it all, Dex and Sloane’s love for each other shines bright as does the love their found family has. A new player is added and I am not a fan but I also don’t think we’re supposed to be. This world is full of so many complex layers it makes my head spin in the best way. Lots of laughs, gasps, tears and happy sighs await in this fantastic series.
Smoke & Mirrors is the seventh book in the THIRDS series by Charlie Cochet. DeX and Sloan face some challenges in this installment of the series. Secrets are unearthed, villains are unmasked, and everything is changing. Plenty of suspense, drama and action, Lots of love and heat, and a great dose of Humor make this story another winner of a read. I am addicted and cant wait for more.
The plot has really taken off and conspiracy are being unearthed left and right. In the middle of this whirlwind is Dex and Sloane. Not only are they trying to survive and live their lives, but they also must bring to light all the secrets that threaten their lives and that of team Destructive Delta. As dark as these books are getting, there’s still a lot of humor and hot sexy moments. The plot has a sci-fi, over the top, Matrix feel to it, but it’s still entertaining.
Charlie is a fantastic writer. This one pulls you in and keeps you deeply involved with the characters. I shed a lot of tears with this one but also had a laugh or two. You become emotionally involved in this one like no other. You feel the pain they are feeling but also the joy they have. Many things develop in this one. All coming to this one point toward the end of this book. But with so much more coming in the future! I have read and re-read this series many many times. Love it !!
