Without a plan in place and only a hundred dollars to my name, this big city girl born in a small town world headed for the bright lights of city life. Four years later, I may have more money in my bank account, but somehow I’ve found myself back in another small town trying to build a life. Even though the residents of Fayhill have welcomed me like one of their own, this is only a detour, not a … detour, not a final destination.
Then I met Shane Abbott.
What’s a girl to do when a certain dark-haired dimpled cowboy, who fills out a pair of jeans like it’s his job and with a smile that sets my soul on fire, has me considering burning my map?
*
The bright lights of city life never appealed to me. I like the quiet of small town life, and my hometown of Fayhill fits me to a T.
I never expected to meet Mercy Warner.
Love is the last thing on my mind. These days I work hard and mind my own business. So when a certain honey-haired spitfire blows into town, I take another look.
She may claim small town life isn’t for her, but the way she’s settling in tells me she might be open to the option. Refusing to let this opportunity to pass me by, I take another chance and put my small town heart on the line.
Surely the draw of the big city won’t burn me twice . . .

I really liked this sweet romance that’s set in the small town of Fayhill! I love the city girl meets country boy with a whole lot of people interfering and emotions all over the place! The characters…ALL the characters were so amazing! Great book I would recommend to all those wanting something slow and sweet!
Note: I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Okay Shane and Mercy have all my heart feelings right about now. I mean sure, the chemistry and banter, and the way they were just meant for each other made them a perfect couple, there were a couple of things I couldn’t overlook.
Sometimes Mercy became a bit too annoying about things, fussing over this and that, having arguments over the silliest things, I just sometimes felt Mercy wasn’t Mercy in those moments.
And ex-girlfriends? God she was so obnoxious, I know she was meant to be, but the amount of desperation and utter torture she inflicted on everyone, yours truly too, god I wanted to put a fork in my eye.
But regardless of those faults, Shane and Mercy made it to my favorite couple list, and nothing, I mean nothing would ever remove them.
They’ve just got too much going for them for me to be too angry at them for long. I mean I already explained it but the chemistry, banter, and the way they managed to smooth things over showed how really well-developed characters they were and a perfect couple they were overall.
Until the next read,
-JB
Sweet story about finding love while finding yourself, letting go of dreams when you find new ones, and learning that home isn’t a place but a person.
I had a hard time connecting to the story at first, because we don’t get to see Shane’s POV until later in the book, and I prefer when I can connect to both H & h. Once Shane’s POV was added in, tho, the story moved more quickly for me & I really enjoyed it! I’m looking forward to checking out more books in the town next year! : )
Such a great expansion of Mercy! I loved Mercy when it was just a short little Novella in the kindle worlds, but I love this story so much more. I love reading more of Shane & Mercy’s story!
Small-Town Hearts is a sweet romance that will make you smile. It is a portrait of young love and the process one young woman must navigate to realize her passion and potential. Set in Central Texas, it chronicles the journey of Mercy, a young woman who has dreams of living in a big city.
I enjoyed the characters and their vibrant personalities. Their interactions with each other are heart-felt and often humorous. The familiarity that comes from living in a small town is evident. It is quite enjoyable see the way these characters take care of each other through good and bad times.
The happy ending is hard-fought. It is refreshing to see the way Shane and Mercy navigate a new relationship as they are establishing their young adult lives. Andrea Johnston has written a love story that will bring a smile to those who read it.
I have never read a book by Andrea Johnston before, but I can tell you honestly that this won’t be the last book that I pick up by Andrea. .I thought this story was simple and fun. It’s a story of a small town girl who falls in love with a small town cowboy. Since she was young, she always knew that she didn’t belong in her small hometown, that it never really felt like home. She recently left Lexington to move to Austin, thinking that the big city is where she is meant to be. However, on her way to Austin her car brakes down in another small town, Fayhill. I won’t reveal anymore, because I really think you need to pick up this book and see for yourself. Andrea does a great job getting you pulled into the story from the very beginning. I found it to be a quick read, something that you could definitely finish in a day. The characters are well developed and the relationship that develops between Mercy and Shane is just adorable.
I really liked this book it was sweet and sexy and had a great small town feel to it. I’d love to see more of this couple. Now I want to pack my bags and move to Fayhill.
Andrea has found her niche is just good, wholesome small town romances. She is my go to author when I need this fix. Little drama, little angst. Just simple feel good stories that we all need from time to time to cleanse our reading palates. I loved all the characters in this one and I hope we get to see more of Fayhill and it’s people. Maybe even a little more Willa because she has peaked my interest with her story.
This was a very sweet story with very likable characters. I loved every page!
This book was super sweet. It kind of makes you want to move to a small Texas town and fall in love with a cowboy! I loved the main characters, Mercy and Shane, but also adored the secondary characters as well. Vera was a hoot! While reading I was a little disappointed it wasn’t a dual POV book, but around chapter 16 Shane’s POV was also included, which I think made the book even better!
Embrace The Adventure, and Don’t Tempt Fate!
I absolutely loved this sweet and romantic story. The characters were beautifully created and the talented author had me instantly falling in love with them; the connection to the Country Road series is fantastic. The story was heart warming and had everything I love in a book – humor, swoon-factor, and fate/destiny.
This is a good read. Ashlynn and Carson are interesting characters. Ashlynn is down to earth girl. She’s a couples counselor. Even though she spends her dates given advise for dating life is a mess. Carson might just be the one to help her. He’s sex therapist. He’s sweet, hot and nice. He and Ashlynn have great chemistry. Both have something in their past that they are keeping secret. I was surprise about what each had kept secret. I kind of expected a little more of a reaction form the characters when the truths come out but overall it was a good read.
Oh, this book! I loved it. It totally reminded me of the small town my family lives in where everybody knows everything about everybody. The heart and community in this book is real and you can’t help but love the town’s heart. This book was full of laughs, swoon and love. Mercy and Shane might be two of my favorite characters to date.
I didn’t read their story when it was published under Mercy and I’m slightly sad I missed out, but having read Small-Town Heart, I can say I love everything about Shane and Mercy.
I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings us!
4.5 Stars
Small-Town Heart has the signature, heat, heart and humor that I’ve come to expect from Andrea’s writing. The characters are endearing and their story is sweet, swoony and heartfelt.
Mercy is a captivating heroine, quirky, confident, compassionate and fun she’s determined to find her place in the world, whether it be in the big city or a small town. The hero Shane is a sexy cowboy, who epitomises a gentleman he’s sweet, kind and romantic.
I quite enjoyed the characters, and hope that this is not the last we see of them.
This is such an adorable, small town romance. Mercy and Shane will make you fall in love with them. I promise you will love the supporting characters as well!
Mercy is looking to start her life over. She never plans to fall in love. Shane isn’t looking for love either, but he isn’t turning down the chance to be with Mercy. Life, jobs, moving, exes, get in the way for them. But, they both prove that it is worth it.
Small-Town Heart by Andrea Johnston is a sweet, easy to read small town romance that is light in angst. I loved it. I did… it made my heart smile and was the perfect book to read following several dark romances. Previously published as Mercy, Small-Town Heart has now been expanded—unfortunately, I didn’t read the first release of the book, so I can’t comment on the differences between the two. However, the more I read Andrea Johnston’s work, the more I see a writing style that I love! Her books lean towards sweet, witty and sexy romances. Heroes that you’d want to take home to meet your parents and heroines you want to have as your bestie—that was certainly the case with Shane and Mercy. Oh, and I loved Vera—I need a Vera in my life!!! Seriously! I truly hope that we get to see more of Shane and Mercy in future books. Small-Town Heart is primarily from Mercy’s perspective, however Shane’s POV is lightly sprinkled throughout the book. Small-Town Heart was easy to finish in one sitting but left me hungry for more of Andrea Johnston’s words… So, I bought Martinis & Moonlight since I haven’t read it yet to read next.
Such a great story! I didn’t read it as Mercy, but I’m so thankful I read it now. The relationship between Mercy and Shane was perfect! I loved that he didn’t push her to do things just because that’s what he wanted. It was also great seeing how their relationship lasted through tornado Connie. Vera stole my heart from the beginning with her big heart and love to share.
Andrea Johnston writes a small town slow burn romance full of adorable heroes and heroines and quirky side characters better than anyone else!
Mercy is a heroine most everyone can relate to. And Shane? Well he’s the kind of hero that will have you swooning and side-eying your husband over the top of your kindle. (Sorry babe!) And the secondary characters in this story are the kind of people you want in your own life – supportive, a little nosy, but big hearted and hilarious!
Small-Town Heart is a page turner and the absolute perfect book to pick up when you have a quiet evening to get lost in a small town story!
This book was simply adorable! From the name of Mercy’s car to watching sparkly vampires with Vera. To Underpants and the sweet people of Fayhill Texas who welcomed Mercy with open arms. I loved this story. Loved Shane and Mercy.
My hopeless romantic heart! This book had my heart warming so fast and the warmth is long lasting. This is the story of Mercy, who changed her name socially to Beth. She is a small town girl wanting the big town life. She is on the road to Austin to have that life she thinks she wants. Then her car breaks down in the small town Fayhill and she is stuck there for a few weeks while it is being fixed. She gets a waitress job while she waits. She plans just to make some money and then off to her dream home. What she didn’t expect was to meet her destined bestie Vera. And also to fall for the hot cowboy Shane. These people in this town understand her. She is Mercy to them and not Beth. Even though she does get to Austin, she can’t forget Fayhill and find herself back there so often. The hot cowboy Shane, her now boyfriend, is there and is about small town life. While he supports her dreams she starts to question what she really wants.
I loved this book. I am sucker for small town romances. And throw in a hot cowboy, an independent woman and a smart mouthed best friend and I am hooked. This book had all of that and more. It touched my heart so deeply. I loved every minute of it. I highly recommend this to romance fans. Andrea Johnston did it again! I swear everything she writes I just love!
