There is no such thing as happily ever after.Everything Charlotte Winston thought she knew has been thrown out the window. From the moment she opens her eyes, the world she remembered ceases to exist, and in its place is a post-apocalyptic realm filled with unimaginable dangers. And one very smoking hot guy who has an uncanny ability to make her blood sing, then boil in a blink of an eye.Dash … in a blink of an eye.
Dash Darhk is everything her parents would hate. He’s six feet and two inches of dark temptation and a killer smile, that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in his wake. But her parents are nowhere to be found. Charlotte is alone in this new world. Destroyed by a toxic mist, the land isn’t the only thing altered, but the inhabitants as well.
As Charlotte begins the hunt for her family, gifts she’s never fathom awake inside her. And with the gifts come problems. Enormous ones. Charlotte is running out of options and places to hide. If she can’t figure out who to trust—and fast—she will lose more than her heart.
Fans of Hunger Games, The 100, and Divergent will fall in love with Slumber.

I’m a sucker for YA Dystopian books. The blurb caught my attention and I have to admit that while I did love this book, I had conflicting feelings for the main character.
This is a dual POV book. I loved being able to get two points of views. We mainly follow Charlotte who is the main character. The second is Dash. Charlotte is one of the main characters who k felt for but at the same time she made bad decisions that would put her in unnecessary danger if she would have just listened. I’m hoping in the next book “Freckles” will grow up and learn to trust others and her gut. Dash, I absolutely loved him. He was a great character and I can’t wait to learn more about him.
I absolutely loved the world building in this series. The mist that changed the world and it’s inhabitants!! It was great to visualize all the changes, etc. Seeing how people survived in this post apocalyptic world.
I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it. The narrators, Caitlin and Gary did a fabulous job bringing the story to live.
This book was an interesting read for me. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’ver never really considered post-apocalyptic my genre. I’m thinking I should maybe change my mind. I found this book to be really well-written and intriguing. I loved the twist of the story to have a fairytale sort of feel, but yet so far from it. I would say that when I read that first page and first chapter I was curious. I wanted to know where it was going and was certainly determined to find out. The main themes of the book are survival and adaptation. This book really brings to question, what would you do? In a world 100 years after your last memory, how can you survive with huge animals and bugs while not knowing the first thing about any of it? It is an interesting concept for a book with a twist of fantasy. The sleeping beauty aspect of the story brings that fantasy twist to it while keeping you terrified with the world unknown. Who can you trust? The story comes together quite well and can really captivate a reader with the struggles of the main characters. It really gives the reader something to consider, what would you do if you woke up in a changed world, your family missing, and a stranger reluctantly guiding you through the new world of terrifying bugs and scared people? If you ran into people from your old life and they were changed beyond recognition what would you say? As I approached the end of the book, I felt satisfied with the way the story was flowing and how much was revealed. Then I realized there was only 10% of the book left and something big was still about to happen. The very end of the book is an explosive ending with twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I am very excited with the cliff hanger ending. A good cliff hanger keeps us interested and ready for the next book, this book truly accomplished this feat. I am eagerly keeping Entangled, Beauty Never Dies Chronicles Book Two on my to-be-read list.
I have been provided with a copy of Slumber by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the Beauty Never Dies series and it was just a great way to start off a series. I really enjoyed this story it was easy to get caught up in it. I loved getting to know the characters Dash and Charlotte and I really enjoyed getting to see them get to know each other it was really fun to watch them come together in this world that is no longer like they knew it. The conversations that take place back in forth between them was really funny at times. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
A wonderful post apocalyptic take on Sleeping Beauty with a handsome, deadly prince and looming threat of “The Institute” keeping them on the run. Couple that with a destroyed earth that has been reborn as if a fairy tale and I couldn’t put it down! I finished this book in a day then immediately bought the follow up and devoured it as well!
This book had a lot of plot twists that kept me reading later then I should have because I just had to know how it ended. I really liked both characters of Dash and Charlotte and plan on reading the rest of the books in this series!
Amazing world building! 100 years in the future, Charlotte wakes to a world she doesn’t know or understand. The only thing keeping her alive is Dash….or is he?
I have mixed feelings on this book. I really liked the idea of it but it just wasnt well executed character wise. I didnt like Dash that much because he was a jerk to Charlotte a lot then he was all hot for her. So, he was hot and cold. Really hate that AND he’s a douche bag. Normally I wouldnt give stuff away but I’m gonna in this case because it really was a terrible thing that he did to her. Really bad. He’s kissed her and spent all this time with her and saved her life I dont know how many times. Their chemistry was intense and they both developed feelings towards one another and did some petting and major kissing. He led her on though. He’s got a girlfriend he’s been looking for since the mist happened those years ago. When he finally told her towards the end of the book it was too late. She’s already in love with him and man that just broke her heart. I was pissed for her. He regretted his actions yes but too little too late. You dont do something like that. He should have told her from the beginning but he didnt. He was an a$$. That being said I didnt really like Charlotte a ton either. She was TSTL in a few moments. Things stared her in the face and she’s like ohhh. Dumbed her down too much. Yes, she’s 17 but I felt her maturity a couple times. I really liked the story though just characters not so much. Ends on a hell of a cliffhanger though. I dont know if I’ll read the rest of the series or not. Use your own judgement.
Slumber is a magnificent book! It sucked me in and keeps my interest throughout the entire book. The story is fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat it completely gave me one heck of a roller coaster ride. The main characters Charlotte and Dash are very real it is easy to be able to relate to them and their situations. Every morsel given as the story progresses felt like a tease where the characters are concerned. Dash & Charlotte’s relationship occurs rather quick like but considering the pace of the events going on, it’s not a complete surprise. I loved that Dash had been with Charlotte from the very beginning awaking her from her slumber to with a little coaxing going along to help her find her family. As Dash continues to save Charlotte’s life as well as show her the ropes so to speak in this “new” way of life it’s easy to see how love could happen. Slumber is an amazing, riveting, and emotional book that definitely leaves you wanting more.
Charlotte is like Sleeping Beauty in this post-apocalyptic world. Dash is her ‘prince’. Well sort of. On the run, she starts to discover that she has different gifts. Ones that others would kill for. Loved this book. Really cool.
Loved this book, didn’t want to put it down to go to bed. I want to know what happens next, like now! I can’t wait to buy the next book to continue the story. I want to know where this journey takes them. The only thing I would change if I could, is I would like to know more about where the mist came from, who started it, why did it happen, that sort of thing. There wasn’t enough background about it. Other than that I have no complaints about this book. It was riveting, kept me interested, made me want more.
A very good, well written book. A lot of twists and turns ,really kept you in the the book. Was hard to put down but when did I couldn’t wait to get back to story.
Interesting premise, the story was enjoyable and even though the female lead is a bit juvenile you have to remember she is high school age and still immature. The author has set this up so she can grow throughout the series. I look forward to reading the rest to see how she has become stronger and more independent.
A very disappointing book. Since I don’t like to start a book and then put it away when I don’t like it, I trudged through it to get it done. I thought I was giving it a chance, but now wish I would have just put it away and deleted it from my book list. I don’t know if the author is a teen or not, but there is definitely an overuse of slang and one word sentences like what. the. hell. So annoying. Plus, it looks as if she opened a thesaurus to try to use different words, then didn’t bother at other times. Another annoying instance -the misuse of words. For example, when describing how loud something was, she used the word decimals instead of the word decibels. When I read the descriptions of other books by this author, it sounds like the heroines are always mouthy, so at least now I know I don’t ever have to pick up another book by her. I already have the gist of what she writes. No thank you.
OMG, what a spectacular book, I’m dying for the next in the series now! 7 months is so far away too! The author, JL Weil, did a fantastic job on this, it pulled me right in & kept my interest! The pace is fast & furious- keeping me on the edge of my seat, the world building excellent in my opinion, the H/h characters (Dash & Charlotte) are very likable as well as being able to relate to their situations, they have you wishing they can get a HEA! The hidden secrets behind Dash are enough to drive you crazy with speculation of what they all are. Each tidbit given as the story progresses is such a tease! The relationship between Dash & Charlotte seems to develop really fast, but considering the events going on, it’s not surprising. I normally object to romance happening “instantly”, but given that she’s “17” & he keeps saving her life one event after another, it’s easy to see that love develop so quickly. This was a fantastic read.
Very sexual from the start, didn’t like it wanted more storyline.
My review is based on the Audiobook. Slumber is one of the best Fantasy stories I have read in awhile. Charlotte and Dash Darhk (by the way, Best name ever!!!) are in depth and relatable characters that make you smile, LOL, and scream in frustration. I love everything about their relationship. The creatures and supernatural powers as well as the overall environment are described in great detail you can easily picture the story unfolding in your mind. This would make a great movie! The narrator does a fabulous job at bringing the characters and story to life with easy to understand and distinguishable voices. I look forward to book 2 and more from this Author & Narrator!
Great book second book great also
This is a FUN read!
Very original. I recommend it because it has an understandable yet unpredictable story and likable characters.
I prefer books with a good resolution, not a cliffhanger.
