A divorced reporter on a remote assignment. An alluring cattleman who captures her heart… City dwelling Maggie Donovan is trying her best to let go of her resentment after her high-profile politician husband of thirty-five years left her for a much younger woman. Her focus now is her job as a reporter for the Country Women’s Magazine, her two adult children, and her church. She doesn’t care that … adult children, and her church.
She doesn’t care that her ex-husband now has a child who could be his grandchild.
No. It doesn’t worry her at all.
Frank Goddard has never considered moving on after his beautiful wife, Esther, was killed in a freak accident six years earlier. His family, who live with him on Goddard Downs, a cattle station in northern Australia, plus his faith, are what he lives for now.
But he’s lonely. He just doesn’t know it.
When Maggie is sent to the remote, mysterious Kimberley area to write about women living on isolated cattle stations, she jumps at the chance. A change is as good as a holiday, so they say.
Never did she expect to fall for the tall, handsome Frank Goddard of Goddard Downs.
But how can a relationship work when they live so far apart?
When the road is slow and dangerous.
When their lives are complicated.
And besides, how do you date when you’re going on sixty?
Slow Road to Love is Book One in the Sunburned Land Series, a mature-age Christian romance set in the beautiful, rugged and remote Kimberley region of northern Australia. Fall in love with Frank and Maggie today, but note that their story continues in Book Two, Slow Journey to Joy.

You can always count on Julette Duncan to give you a wonderful, inspirational story. This one is about mature characters (like me), so I loved it! Highly recommend!
Excellent christian book. I loved the prayers and Bible verses throughout. Nice to read about second chances of older couple and their properness
The book had a number of twists and turns that kept me reading. Nice to read a book that has Christian values and old fashioned romance.
I loved the entire series
Great story.
The setting being in Australia made the book very interesting to me because it gave a very good description of what life is like on the other side of the world from me. I am interested in reading the other two books in the series.
I found the characters enchanting, but the story line was ponderous and repetitive. Boring. She could have developed the charactera more thoroughly.
Great story about a older woman. Her career takes her to several cattle stations in Australia. She meets a widower. She helps work on the station and works along side this man. She gets lots of information for an articulate she needs to write. Their struggles with family and distance are obstacles they have to contend with. Love the story. Thank you.
I enjoyed learning about cattle stations in Australia – the history of women – I could never have been a pioneer but admire them. The family dynamics, the scenery, how different people deal with life’s tragedies …
I enjoyed this
It was very good
It is rather nice to read a romance book where the characters are older.
I really liked the story line in this book. It was really nice reading a book and learning more about Australia. I really liked the characters and could relate to them. I also liked the characters being mature in age which was a nice difference from a lot of other books. A great book. I look forward to reading Slow Journey to Joy.
As an mature person, I love having a good romantic book that is about a mature couple.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and the review is my own.
I learnt a lot in this book about what stations are in Australia. I enjoyed that the story (inside the story) was about strong woman and their roles in the stations. This story is about second chances and an older generation but it didn’t feel like a ‘dated’ story. Instead it felt current and real and very well written. The ending was not expected and I am really looking forward to book #2. Thank you Juliette Duncan for writing such wonderful stories with biblical content to show how God really does work in people’s lives.
What a story so far! The story is about two older adults. One divorced, one widowed. Both going through changes in their own lives, their families lives and their responsibilities. As they maneuver through these changes, they both see God working and reminding them He is in control. As they decide to move forward together, more changes out of their control happen. Can’t wait for book 2. I was given a complimentary copy of this book and the thoughts in this review are my own.
Maddie Donovan is a magazine reporter and her new assignment is writing about Cattle Stations which are huge acres of land run by families. She has two children and two grandchildren. This is the first book in the series. On one of the farms she met Frank Goddard who’s wife died in an accident. He has two children and grandchildren. This is a good clean and heartwarming story. This is a second chance romance. I loved this story and am looking forward to the next book. I was given a ARC of this book and I highly recommend reading this book.
This is a very good book to read. It was moving and powerful. I highly recommend it.
I did receive an advanced copy of the book from the publisher and the review is mine voluntarily.
I loved learning about the stations, as well as meeting the characters in this book!
Marge Donovan is a reporter for a magazine, and is sent out to a few stations (like US farms or ranches), to interview the women about the jobs they do for their station. She meets Frank Goddard, and they both feel a connection as they discover some commonalities. She leaves that station, but ends up going back through the Goddard station, on her way back, after running over a tree lying in the road, and asks Frank if he could check out her vehicle. This is a really good book, but you will need to wait awhile, before you know how the second book completes the story, which is coming out soon. I highly recommend this book!
There is hope after divorce. Maggie was devastated but turned to her faith to get through a horrible time. I liked that she immediately found another church rather than turning her back on God. God was busy in Maggie’s life, guiding the steps she would take to fulfill His plans for her. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
