You can’t put the brakes on love… Ronnie Ashford needs a distraction. In the morning, she has to offer arrogant, conventional Jack Crews a job and convince him not to take it. She doesn’t need anyone’s help, thank you very much. But tonight is all about the tall, sexy stranger who just walked in the bar–and all the delicious trouble they could get into together. Too bad just as things are … things are heating up between them, he whispers the three little words that destroy everything: “I’m Jack Crews.”
Jack is determined to connect with fiery Ronnie–in bed and out of it–but her terms are clear. If he takes the job, helping her acquire prized artifacts for her mysterious bosses, anything between them is strictly off-limits. Somehow he has to convince a woman who’s never felt like she belonged that she’s found her place–with him. And with the danger sparking hotter than the fire between them, it’s going to be one unforgettable trip…

I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review, this is the second my first book in this series and it could be a standalone. Now I will have to get the first book and read that also. I enjoyed reading about Jack’s and Ronnie. Their meeting at first was an attraction at first sight. I loved the twists and turns that the book took. Ronnie was filled with a lot of spunk and Jack was quite and polite. Ronnie and Jack’s families are so opposite but the Crews family changes it all for Ronnie. The mystery/danger part of the story keeps you guessing. Awesome story. I would recommend it to all my friends.
Love Lori’s books. This series is so much fun. I love family style books and they is always an animal in all of them. I wish mine behaved hang as well as those in the books lol. The only thing I want crazy about was Ronnie. She wasn’t my favorite main character. I’m all for tough independent work but she was just a little much for me.
I have yet to meet a Lori Foster book that I didn’t love. This book is no exception! It is a stand alone novel, with great characters!! I had to remedy the fact I didn’t grab book 1 after reading this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book. I love the family dynamic and the character growth. I honestly reviewed an ARC of this book from NetGalley. I can’t wait for book 3!!
Slow Ride is book two in the Road to Love Series, although you don’t need to read book one to enjoy book two. This series is about two brothers who own a courier service but they are hired to accompany an employee of the collector, who turns out to be a woman and therefore the heroine of our stories. And they’re to deliver and pick up some unusual things. Not the regular courier services you’re used to thinking of. Book one had Brodie picking up some weird stuff but in Slow Ride, the stuff Jack has to pick up goes beyond weird in my opinion. But it sure makes for an interesting read. And the chemistry between Jack and Ronnie was hot! But Jack was also so sweet to her too. It was nice to see Ronnie’s walls come down and let Jack love her. Another very satisfying action packed love story from Ms. Foster. And the blurb for the next book in the series has me very excited! Can’t wait to read more.
*I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book*
I loved this story! Lori had me right from the start with Ronnie’s spunk and the first meeting between her and Jack was so fun. The attraction between Ronnie and Jack couldn’t be denied and the journey to their HEA was challenging, entertaining and so very satisfying. The mystery/danger part of the story was handled really well, too. I received an ARC for my honest review, which is if you want a story that has fun, suspense and heat look no further Slow Ride delivers!
Loved Ronnie and Jack from page one. (Well Jack from Driven to Distraction) The chemistry was off the charts and you couldn’t help but want Jack to rescue Ronnie when at the same time you want him to let her work it out. Their struggle made the story so much better. Howler and Peanut stole my heart in this story, loved those two. Great read and I continue to love the Crews family!!
I ordered and read Driven to Distraction (Book 1) first even though Slow Ride (Book 2) is a standalone book. I am so glad I did and would recommend the other book simply because it is a good story. I love both books and the brother in Driven is a heart throb hunk all to his own merit. I felt Driven couldn’t be ‘outdone’ even though there were a few nitpick things like the heroine didn’t seem to suit her name, etc. However, Slow Ride just nailed it on all cylinders. Ms. Foster easily accelerated Jack to higher level. I could envision Ronnie exactly as described. There was vulnerability when required, snarkiness when needed, and grit when necessary. I think banter always adds the extra spice and humor to the building of a relationship story and you can check that off the list because it is in there. I appreciate that the stories are believable enough to occur. While the scenes are edgy and add the suspense and page turning thrills that keep a reader interested, they don’t distract from the relationship of the hero and heroine. The supporting characters add just enough level of interest to give the story a bonus so to speak. I read the story in a single sitting. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy.
Slow Ride
The next book in the Road To Love series.
Ronnie is in the small town to meet Jack. (Brodie’s Brother from Driven to Distraction) Ronnie’s employer seems to think she needs help collecting artifacts. Ronnie isn’t happy and likes to work alone. Enter Jack Crews and the sparks start to fly.
Ronnie is snarky, spunky, fearless and tells it like it is, but there are some baggage from her past that has made her build walls around herself to keep from being emotionally hurt again…..Jack, calm, polished confident, sexy and shows his inner Alpha male with Ronnie. Jack knows he can break down that wall Ronnie has around her. Between him, his family and of course Howler and peanut he will take that wall down brick by brick. In the meantime, there is an evil predator who has eyes on Ronnie.
Edge of your seat, hot and smexy panty melting H, strong, vulnerable, cheeky h and all the feels you expect from Ms. Foster. Loved it!
This second book in this new series by Lori Foster is a little different from her other series. I thought the writing showed more raw emotion and the characters were very realistic. The relationship was slow building and filled with a lot of turmoil and past history that added twists and challenges.
There was romance, intrigue, and quirky characters. The story revolving around the world of “collectors” of unusual items is a fresh approach and added to the overall enjoyment of this book.
The book is stand alone but you are reacquainted with characters from the first book which is great if you have already read it. If not you will probably want to read this one as well. I look forward to the next books in the series.
I received an ARC from Net Gallery and this is my honest review.
Love Lori Foster, this book & series! You will thoroughly enjoy Jack & Ronnie’s (Veronica) story that includes the same wonderful characters from Driven To Distraction & introduces some new characters. If you’re an animal lover like myself you will also love the rescue animals (Brodie’s dog Howler, the addition of Peanut the kitten & Buster the puppy) in the book! We all deserve a Jack or Brodie in our lives but they’ll have to be book boyfriends! Looking forward to Charlotte’s story next & I highly recommend Slow Ride, as well as Driven To Distraction (Brodie & Mary’s story). I received an ARC from Netgalley & this is my honest review.
I couldn’t wait to read Jack’s story. Wondered who would capture his eye and what she would be like. I’m not sure if Ronnie is who I imagined. She was hard edged and very capable. At first, I wasn’t sure if I even liked her. But the more I got to know her and her backstory, I liked her more and more. Jack was very patient, which is what Ronnie needed. It was great to get updated on Brodie, Charlotte, Mary, Ros, and especially Howler. Can’t wait for Charlotte’s story.
OMG, Ronnie and Jack are just as great as Brodie and Mary were, and we get more road trips! Ronnie was basically tossed aside by her family, and has made her own way, in her own way, dealing with things the best she can. Jack has his mom, Brodie and Charlotte, plus his issues with his dad, but his family comes first. These two seem like opposites, especially to Ronnie, but that makes everything all the better.
Ronnie also appears to have someone watching her, but who? Her father? Her sister? The kidnapper from her past? A past business associate? How will she and Jack handle this development, if there really is something going on?
Slow Ride is book 2 in the Road to Love series and it was an enjoyable read. This is Jack Crews and Ronnie Ashford’s story. Ronnie has had a difficult life that has made her very standoffish and not trusting of anyone. We meet Jack in Brodie’s story in Driven to Distraction, he is the complete opposite of Ronnie. He is charming and down to earth. From the first meeting, the attraction was evident. Unfortunately, Ronnie was only looking for one night and not looking for more. Things get a bit more complicated when Ronnie finally finds out Jack’s name. He happens to be the person she is supposed to convince to not take the contract from her bosses. For Ronnie their night was over and the promise of an amazing night was also completely over. A confused Jack, however, sees nothing wrong with working together and also continuing on with their attraction. The next morning, Jack convinces her to give him a chance with the job, when danger surrounds Ronnie, she finally realizes she actually may need him. During each job, Jack starts to slowly break down Ronnie’s walls and they get to know each other. We learn Ronnie’s history and start to understand why she is the way she is. Ronnie starts to confide in Jack and starts to enjoy the camaraderie between the two. As to the rest of the book, the action, mystery and suspense portion definitely kept me on my toes.
To be honest, I really had a difficult time with Ronnie’s character in the beginning, I actually did not like her at all. She came across as too brash and bit on the crude side. But as we get to know her and her history, you start to understand her a bit more. And you can’t forget how she is with little Peanut. Lori Foster writes such wonderful four-legged characters!! As for Jack, he had so many facets to his personality. When Ronnie first met him, he was dressed like a construction worker, rugged and rough around the edges. The very next day he’s the polished business man, who is nauseatingly nice all the time. But once protective Jack is unleashed, watch out, he is sexy as all get out! I definitely started to enjoy the book more as Ronnie began her healing process with Jack. I loved that what Jack did for Ronnie was allowing her to finally feel.
I also really had a difficult time with my rating, I was really close to the 3 to 3.5 star mark but seeing the warmer side of Ronnie, especially with Howler and Peanut, I found it to be more of a 4-star rating.
All in all, this was enjoyable and I really am looking forward to Charlotte’s book.
I received an ARC of Slow Ride from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
Ronnie is a loner, badass, and has had a hard life. She picks up and delivers odd treasure to her bosses. They have decided to hire a driver for her but she plans to make sure the guy doesn’t take the job. Jack owns a transport company along with his brother. The moment he sees Ronnie in the bar, he knows he has to have her. But as they are about to leave, she finds out his name and tells him she’ll see him tomorrow for their appointment. They go on a job and Ronnie hopes it will scare Jack off but it takes more than a scary woman to make him run. When things start happening around Ronnie, she admits to needing Jack’s help. Can Jack convince Ronnie to trust him and give them a chance?
Awesome story. Sexy, mystery and funny. Cute dog and a little kitten. I absolutely fell in love with Ronnie. She’s been through a lot but can still kick butt. And Jack I just want to hug and keep him for myself. They are perfect for each other.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
I have been a fan of Lori Foster for years, years and since I tend to enjoy her I automatically request her books and even if I don’t get the ARC I tend to buy them because as I mentioned I am a fan, I also tend to reread them. However I wasn’t crazy about this book, why you may ask because I truly truly disliked Ronnie and she ruined it for me. I get that Ronnie had some issues that made her tough but I don’t find that excuse reason to be a bitch there is not need for it and I have found that in the latest book from Lori the woman are starting to be nasty and I can’t do it, I like strong woman and respect them way better than a wishy washy heroine or a doormat but these new type of characters I hate them. Ronnie started off nasty from the get go and I honestly couldn’t see why Jack would be attracted to her she was so nasty I stopped reading didn’t want to finish the book which has never, ever happened with one of Lori’s books, I made myself continue for Jack’s sake and for the stories sake but I am going to have to stopped reading if we continue to get these type of main characters, I don’t see the need for them and think they should have more respect in dealing with others, it is truly breaking my heart.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.
Slow Ride is the second book in the Road to Love series. Like most of Lori Foster’s books, this one does not disappoint. You will fall in love with Jack Crews! He is a natural protector, much more polished than his brother, Brodie. Jack uses his “well-mannered civility like a weapon, bludgeoning people with it!” Jack treats Ronnie with great care, always analyzing how to respond to her prickliness.
Ron (Veronica/Ronnie) Ashford is an independent, quick-tempered, very confident and courageous woman who relishes pushing Jack’s buttons. Always trying to make Jack lose some of his politeness. Many of Lori’s characters are animal lovers and will not stand by and watch an animal be mistreated! The animals in Lori’s books are just as lovable and interesting as her heroes and heroines.
The attraction is immediate between Jack and Ronnie and sparks fly. All of Lori’s characters are interesting and lovable, from Howler the dog Brodie rescued, to Charlotte their assistant. The reader can’t help but fall in love with Jack, who is always jumping to the defense of helpless maidens and innocent cats! I received this ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
