You can’t put the brakes on love… Ronnie Ashford needs a distraction. In the morning, she has to offer arrogant, conventional Jack Crews a job and convince him not to take it. She doesn’t need anyone’s help, thank you very much. But tonight is all about the tall, sexy stranger who just walked in the bar–and all the delicious trouble they could get into together. Too bad just as things are … things are heating up between them, he whispers the three little words that destroy everything: “I’m Jack Crews.”
Jack is determined to connect with fiery Ronnie–in bed and out of it–but her terms are clear. If he takes the job, helping her acquire prized artifacts for her mysterious bosses, anything between them is strictly off-limits. Somehow he has to convince a woman who’s never felt like she belonged that she’s found her place–with him. And with the danger sparking hotter than the fire between them, it’s going to be one unforgettable trip…

So much fun! The way Ronnie and Jack net was priceless! There is never a dull moment with edge of your seat, nail biting action! Twists and turns keep you guessing. This book might be called “Slow Ride” but it’s anything but! Ronnie and Jack sizzle! You also get a healthy dose of Howler and a new friend! That’s all I’m saying! I highly recommend this book.
I received and ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest and unsolicited review.
Let me start out by saying that this book has been a light in the darkness for me.
This past week, I have been going through so many drastic changes in my life. All of which, have overwhelmed me to the point of near break down. Lori’s book was there to pull me out of my low, repeatedly.
Anytime that I would turn on my kindle, Ronnie and Jack were there to put a smile on my face.
From the first moment of their meeting, with the intense, and I mean intense chemistry, all the way to the end. I had a near-permanent smile on my face.
I would highly recommend this book, this series and any other book by Lori Foster to anyone who will listen.
Happy reading!
Rating 5 stars
Note: I have voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this title.
Book two in the Road to Love series was highly anticipated by me since I enjoyed the first installment to the series. At first, I was a bit confused by the similarities of the plots: a peculiar collector(s) have a person, a beautiful young woman with dramatic family drama, on their payroll, and because of the danger of the job, their need a man to drive and protect her while collecting the odd things from the buyers. The man feels instant lust, the woman is not ready for a relationship, there is an adorable rescue animal to smooth the way, and the extended family surrounding the brothers cheering them on.
With two so similar foundations for the tales, the personalities of the brothers, the heroes of the stories, started to stand out. They are brothers, so there are those endearing family trades. But Jack Crews has deeper dimensions than expected, He is not the timid, uptight person one might expect, a ‘suit’ as Ronnie Ashford called him. He is considerate and kindhearted, he looks after those he loves, the family is everything to him, and the tenderness he shows with the little kitty — just delightfully swoony, indeed.
The story has action, danger, and suspense that gave me the creeps. The stalker is disturbingly sinister, and as part of the story is told by his menacing point of view, you really get into the reality of the possible peril at hand.
Jack and Ronnie have tangible chemistry. They have a connection that might seem fragile because of Ronnie’s issues but Jack is a smart man who is not about to let Ronnie walk out of his life. His patience and perseverance was not something Ronnie expected. The brightly burning desire he has for her is not enough for Jack, he wants it all, and is willing to go the extra mile to make it happen.
Lori Foster knows how to entertain the readers’ minds, the emotions run deep, the desires burns hot, and the threatening suspense gets under your skin and makes you check the locks in your house one more time…
A ravishing, entertaining love story enhanced with family drama and intimidating suspense.
~ Four Spoons
Jack and Ronnie are a great couple. The action was well paced and well written. This book can be read alone, but is best enjoyed as part of the series. This is book 2 in the Ride to Love series.
I enjoyed this story very much! The chemistry between Ronnie and Jack jumps right off the page and smacks you upside the head..in a good way. Normally my reviews are much longer and I tend to gush. I decided that I would do this one shorter so the reader gets a few surprises.
I highly recommend this book.
“I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.”
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have been a Lori Foster fan for quite awhile, I love all her books. This one though is in my top three! It is such a sweet, romantic and suspenseful story. Jack and Ronnie are electric together. I loved Ronnie’s story and how Jack treated her. I don’t want to give away the story, but it’s an awesome one You will love it, highly recommend!
3.75 stars–SLOW RIDE is the second instalment in Lori Foster’s contemporary, adult ROAD TO LOVE erotic, romantic suspense series. This is acquisitions agent Ronnie Ashford, and Jack Crews’ story line. SLOW RIDE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person perspectives including Ronnie and Jack SLOW RIDE follows a similar premise to book one – ROAD TO LOVE-in that acquisitions agent Ronnie Ashford is sent to meet up with a man who will be her guardian and protector as she is tasked as the courier for the rare and odd. Enter Jack Crews, the man with whom Ronnie will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ronnie and Jack, and the potential fall-out as Ronnie is target by a unknown assailant who wants Ronnie for himself.
Ronnie Ashford acquires oddities –murderabilia, the macabre-items found, lost and procured for the collectors Drake and Drew Dolby, but several of Ronnie’s recent assignments find our heroine’s life precariously on the edge when she becomes the target of someone unknown. Jack Crews has quickly fallen for the woman that will call to his heart but everyone becomes suspect when numerous attempts on Ronnie’s life place both in danger. Mysterious strangers, messages and attacks push Ronnie to reconsider the people from her past.
The relationship between Ronnie and Jack is one of immediate attraction but Ronnie doesn’t do relationships fearing loss and rejection as happened long ago. Jack also struggles with memories of the past, of a father whose lifestyle affected the family he left behind. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to Jack’s brother Brodie and his wife Mary; his mother Roz, and foster sisters Charlotte, as well as Drake and Drew Dolby, and a number of sellers hoping to make money from their odd collectibles.
SLOW RIDE is a story of family, friendship, obsession and love. The premise is engaging and intriguing; the romance is passionate and hot; the characters are eclectic, charismatic and intense. I did struggle with a couple of issues: the revelation and identity of the person responsible for the attacks against our story line heroine was disappointing –the disconnection between events and threats with no explanation-as was the quick conflict to the story line resolution.
Excitement and tension were high here in the second book of this romantic suspense series!
Veronica “Ronnie” Ashford walks through her life alone these days, and she likes it just fine, thank you very much. Her family are strangers to her now, and she only shares her body with a man very occasionally, and on a VERY limited basis. One night only to be exact. All she really has, is her job, and her nightmares. Her job is an odd one, to be sure, but she enjoys it, and her kooky, goth, twin bosses, Drake and Drew Dolby. They send her to pick up acquisitions for them around the regional area. Mostly oddities, and curiosities, and things that most people would describe as sick, or weird. She’s been in a few scrapes during pickups, as these items are sometimes wanted by a lot of other people. But it’s been nothing she can’t handle. Still her bosses become concerned, and want her to hire a driver. Some extra muscle for her protection. She doesn’t think she needs it, and she doesn’t want it, especially not in the form of Jack Crews.
Jack Crews is a mostly easy going guy, who hides his anger and upset behind perfect politeness. He dresses nicely, and has a reputation as a smooth operator. He has a tight family unit by blood, and by choice, excluding his dad, who is a worthless cheater, who forgets his own kids’ birthdays, and was never around much. He and his older brother, Brodie (the hero from book 1), own a business together, and when Ronnie comes to him with the reluctant job offer, he’s all in. Both with her, and with the job. He just needs to convince her of that. But, he comes to realize that he has everything Ronnie doesn’t: a loving, close-knit family, that stand together against whatever comes. Can he convince her that the one thing his family, and he, needs, is her??
Jack and Ronnie’s connection was HOT from the moment they met. In fact, she tried to convince him to turn down the job offer, just so they could have a romp. But he wanted so much more from her, and he was determined to make her see her own value, and the value in him as a partner, both in work, and in life. I loved Jack’s patience, and his love of each of her quirks, including her many moments of attitude. I loved Ronnie’s strength, and her determination, and her soft heart underneath. That heart had just been hurt too many times, by too many different people, especially by ones who were supposed to love her unconditionally. She was a very special heroine, and though her prickliness bothered me at first, once she let her guard down with Jack, and I saw her true colors, she became so much more relatable.
Jack’s family is a delight, and I can’t wait to see his and Brodie’s pseudo-sister, Charlotte, get her HEA in the next book. Though their dad was always a mess, their mom was their rock, and she still is. Charlotte helps keep their office running smoothly, and Mary, Brodie’s wife, brings her own flair to the family circle. Not to mention the lovable Howler the dog, and Peanut the kitty. All of this author’s side characters are so familiar somehow, and you want to know more about them. Many end up getting their own stories later, and I love that. I’d actually love to see a side plot where Ros, Jack’s mom, finds her own HEA, since her ex-husband was such a disappointment.
The suspense plot here was exciting, and I was always waiting with bated breath for the next thing to happen. There were some passages from the villain’s POV, and though hard to read sometimes, definitely ramped up the tension of the mystery, and it wasn’t overused. I loved the way that whole thing turned out, and how it all helped Ronnie to re-affirm to herself, her own worth. She didn’t really NEED Jack, but she wanted him, and loved how much he wanted her. It was a very healthy way to approach a relationship.
Overall I enjoyed this story, and I loved all the characters and their relationships as a family unit. I am anxiously awaiting the next story in this series, as I’ve been looking to know more about sweet Charlotte.
Slow ride is the second book in this series about a company owned by to brothers that transport goods for clients. Here we have Jack and Ronnie (Veronica) story. Ronnie boss wants Jack to accompany her on their new buys. That isn’t going to work out especially how they met and given her strong personality. This book was similar to the last regarding both having very strong heroines who don’t want to be tamed or show any kind of weakness. The plot kept me guessing and the pair was smoking together when Ronnie was giving in. I enjoyed book and especially love the animals that play great roles in the story. I’m personally looking forward to Charlotte story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Slow Ride is the perfect read to a great Sunday! A story that is the second in the Road to Love series. Ronnie Ashford’s job is to procure oddities for her bosses. She has no doubts that she can handle the jobs..but her bosses are demanding that she takes on a driver. A very handsome driver. One she tried to make her one night stand! Ooops! Jack Crewes and his brother Brodie (from Driven to Distraction) own Mustang Transport and Jack is Very interested in both the driving position and the Ronnie proposition!
This story is fast paced and I found the cast a very likeable crew! It had it’s tense moments with a little scare that is always a welcome surprise. Plus I loved the animal aspects as well. Shows the good hearts of the characters!
Slow Ride (Road to Love, #2) by Lori Foster…I want to give this more than 5 stars… Lori has done it again… I was pulled in and didn’t want to leave…I am so happy to be on Lori’s Street Team and be able to preview and review this book. Ronnie(traumatized since she left home at 18 and was kidnapped and escaped…works for Drew and Drake ) there is a new threat… Jack Crews (Mustang Transport..hired to help Ronnie collect items) There is now stop to the action, threats, tears (happy and sad) laughter, so good catching up with Jack’s family, the wonderful animals, and lots of steamy stuff all getting us to a very HEA. I can’t wait for the final book in the ROAD TO LOVE SERIES… Charlotte and Mitch’s story.
Good story, 2nd in this series, in the same vein as the 1st book with the brother’s transport business.
Jack will melt your heart and your panties, with a ton of patience and love where Ronnie is concerned. Ronnie is a lot broken, and the whole Crews family, by blood or not, helps this wonderful woman find her place with them.
There is drama here with twists, and a bit of the macabre as Ronnie’s bosses collect anything weird or abnormal.
All the action, heat, snark and funny bits keep the story moving at a fast pace, with Howler and the new Peanut adding to the goodness.
I received an ARC from the author thru Net Galley, all the opinions are my own and voluntary
Oh my! The road to love series just keeps getting better.
Slow Ride is all about Jack Crews. Jack is quiet, polite, reserved, the total opposite of his older brother Brodie whom he runs Mustang Transport services with. He’s also devastatingly handsome, just like his brother.
Veronica Ashford, who goes by Ronnie, is a force to be reckoned with. She doesn’t take anything from anyone, will happily tell you she can take care of herself (she can) and she doesn’t believe in love or relationships. She’s had a hard life between a dysfunctional family and being kidnapped at the age of 18 (luckily she escaped). It’s no wonder she has trust issues.
Ronnie and Jack are thrown together by her employers who hire Jack to be a driver for her to pick up the “oddities” that they collect. They butt heads immediately, but the chemistry is sizzling just below the surface.
As they explore their new work arrangement, they also explore that chemistry as well. Throw in some drama of being chased by a deranged serial killer and it finally sinks in for Ronnie that Jack and his family aren’t going anywhere.
I love how Ms. Foster tells this tale of love and shows that even a strong, independent woman who has been through hell and back deserves to be loved for who she is and it only serves to make her stronger.
“I think my favorite part is you.”
Much like a feral cat being cornered, Veronica “Ronnie” Ashford fights and claws anyone that dares get too close. That is until the night she walks into the local hangout and meets Jack Crews. The chemistry is electrifying, and Jack is everything Ronnie desires, but feels she is too broken to have.
Jack Crews is drawn to Ronnie and her devil may care attitude. He sees beyond the armor she shields herself with to the woman inside longing to be accepted and loved. Jack is determined to tame this hellcat, and draw her into the protection of his embrace.
Ronnie and Jack’s romance is indeed a Slow Ride with twists and turns and enough suspense and steam to keep the pages turning. Highly recommend!
*Received ARC via NetGalley for honest review*
“Slow Ride” is book 2 of Lori Foster’s Road to Love series. This time it’s Jack Crews and Ronnie Ashford who have a bumpy path to finding their happily-ever-after.
Jack, like all of Ms. Foster’s heroes, is the classic alpha male. No matter how hard Ronnie tries to get him to quit being a courier for the men she works for, Jack won’t go away.
Ronnie has a painful past and doesn’t want to let Jack in. Slowly, but surely, she does.
“Slow Ride” is sexy, suspenseful, and is trademark Lori Foster.
This is the second book in the Road to Love series and Lori doesn’t disappoint with this story. The chemistry between Jack and Ronnie (Veronica) is electric! This book is a great read. I look forward to the next book in the series. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was disappointed that the storyline was so similar to book 1, Road to Distraction. Although the characters are different the setting is the same in Slow Ride as it was in Driven to Distraction. I realize the story revolves around two brothers and their business, but there were just too many similarities between them. They are stand-alone novels so if reading just Slow Ride my rating would be 4 stars. Great character evolution and the suspense as to who and why, Ronnie is being stalked kept my interest. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
I had not read any books by this talented author in a while and was anxious to give this one a try. I have to confess that at times I felt a little at a disadvantage, since I had not read book 1 in the series.
Though the story line was interesting, the main female character, Ronnie/Ron/Veronica, for me, was not very likable. Yes, she had personal issues that were tragic, but her personification never allowed me to empathize with her. I found her too self-centered and rather nasty and in the end, ruined the book for me. Jack on the other hand, was likable and way too nice to her. So for his sake I finished the book.
I am a fan of Ms. Foster and respect all the work authors put into their craft, and know as well, that opinions tend to be subjective.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed were solely my own.
Oh my gosh! This book! Lori Foster shows us once again why she’s one of the best romance writers around.
Slow Ride is number 2 in this new series. And let me tell you, this book cranks up the heat by fifty degrees!
Jack is everything every girl wants. Sweet, sexy and full of confident swagger.
I wasn’t sure about Ronnie To me, she was almost abrasive in her ‘leave me alone’, attitude. It took a while but she slowly crept into my heart. I think the turning moment was when she baby talked a kitten.
Together Jack and Ronnie make Sparks that will make your heart speed up and heat you up.
This book is full of steamy moments between Jack and Ronnie as they navigate all the problems from her job, and Ronnie’s baggage that crushes her spirit.
I love Lori Foster. Her writing just keeps getting better.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Thank you Lori for the opportunity to read and review this book.
At the beginning of the book I thought, wow this is almost exactly like book one. But I kept going and yes it’s similar, Jack and Brodie are brothers and they run a transport company. Mary and Ronnie both “collect” items for their bosses, but that’s where the similarities ends. Ronnie has been through a lot in a few years and it’s made her determined not to depend on anyone else. Jack manages to get through that tough exterior to find the woman within and bring her out into the open.
Loved the story, couldn’t put it down and I was happy to see there is going to be a third book in the series, Charlotte is next and ends up with someone unexpected.
