You can’t put the brakes on love… Ronnie Ashford needs a distraction. In the morning, she has to offer arrogant, conventional Jack Crews a job and convince him not to take it. She doesn’t need anyone’s help, thank you very much. But tonight is all about the tall, sexy stranger who just walked in the bar–and all the delicious trouble they could get into together. Too bad just as things are … things are heating up between them, he whispers the three little words that destroy everything: “I’m Jack Crews.”
Jack is determined to connect with fiery Ronnie–in bed and out of it–but her terms are clear. If he takes the job, helping her acquire prized artifacts for her mysterious bosses, anything between them is strictly off-limits. Somehow he has to convince a woman who’s never felt like she belonged that she’s found her place–with him. And with the danger sparking hotter than the fire between them, it’s going to be one unforgettable trip…

Another great read in this new series by Lori Foster. I did see similarities to Mary and Ronnie on their backgrounds and how they both were alone and felt abandoned. Jack is the perfect match to Ronnie. He knows exactly how to get her to open up and show her love without her running away. It takes time but in the end it’s all worth it. Both Mary and Ronnie have gained a great new family and the Crews family have gained some terrific women.

I am loving this Road to Love series by Author Lori Foster! Slow Ride, the second book in the series, is Veronica “Ronnie” Ashford and Jack Crews’ bizarre story. Their first meeting is perfect! Then, their business relationship is complete craziness, and finally…their head-butting attraction is fantastic!
The jobs that Ronnie’s bosses, Drake and Drew, ask her to go on to collect “murderabilia” are so insane, and they want her to be safe so they have her hire Brodie and Jack’s business Mustang Transport to help. She drags her feet and tries to convince them they are not needed, but Jack is having none of that.
This is a crazy, fun, perfect read! The mystery, the love, the stubbornness, the characters, the animals…it all blends together to create a great story! I loved it and am looking forward to the third and final book in this series!
Slow Ride by Lori Foster
Road to Love #2
Mustang Transporters my be a bit tamer than the movie with Jason Statham in it but it is based on the idea of someone going to pick up and deliver items. In this book there are twins who collect rather unusual items for a collection they keep in their basement and Ronnie Ashford is their go-fer. When Ronnie meets trouble one day the twins decide she needs some muscle by her side so hire Jack Crews to be that muscle and driver on pickup and delivery. Ronnie is NOT thrilled with having a minder and for quite awhile tries to shake Jack off…but over time…that all changes and a romance brews. Throw in a bit of suspense with a bad guy out to add to his personal even MORE creepy collection and you have an interesting story with trust won, family defined, suspense and some hot romance. The next book in the series will be that of Charlotte and an a half brother of Jack and Brodie who comes to visit…or so says the end of this book.
Did I like this book? Yes
Do I want to read the next book in the series? Yes
Was this book significantly different from the first in the series? Very similar
What did I find charming? Well, Jack and Brodie but also Howler and Peanut…they almost stole the show!
Thank you to NetGalley, HQN and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
Ronnie meets Jack when she asks him for a one night stand that doesn’t happen and then meets him when she asks for his help her in business. Jack is smitten and can’t turn down the job. Jack thinks that getting these oddities from strangers is strange but the company is good until weird things start to happen. Ronnie has a traumatic past she tries to work through but Jack is there to help her. Jack shows Ronnie how to trust and be cares for and Ronnie allows herself to be safe and happy. When she becomes a target Jack and brother Brodie are there for her.
This is the second book in a series. I’ve been interested in Jack since the last book. Ronnie needs to hire Jacks transport business to find and collect artifacts for her employers. As in the last book the items that need to be transported are interesting and unexpected. Jack and Ronnie have a connection from the first meeting but she doesn’t like to let people in to her life. Jack is not deterred and patiently finds out why Ronnie is so skittish and slowly wears down her walls. There is also suspense with someone after Ronnie. It’s a fun interesting story with complex characters. It’s good to see Jack help Ronnie through her personal demons. He and his family show her what a real family looks like. It is also suspenseful and the book is both fun and fascinating to read. I’m looking forward to Charlottes story in the next book.
Loved it! Lots of action and romance! Ronnie and Jack have awesome chemistry. Needed a fan for this one! The story keeps you on your toes! This was definitely a wild ride!
Another great book. This is a fun second book in this series. I loved Jack and Ronnie’s chemistry. Great read for upcoming Spring Break. received an ARC from Net Gallery and this is my honest review.
Foster did it again. Another great book. Loved this wonderful story. Great characters. Loved this book.
I enjoyed reading Slow Ride by Lori Foster. It was so awesome that I could put my kindle down! I enjoyed the storyline so much! I kept reading to see what was going to happen. I enjoyed the chemistry between Ronnie and Jack! Such an awesome read!
Enjoyable addition to the Road of Love series. Well-written and nicely faced, I was hooked from the start. Loved Jack and how he fought for Ronnie. Can’t wait for Charlotte’s book.
Ronnie has a job she loves picking up collectibles her two employers have bought . It’s a dangerous job to have but Ronnie wants to do it on her own without anyone else trying to take over .
Jack is in the business of transport and and wants not only the job but to protect Ronnie . The chemistry between them is written so descriptively and I totally enjoyed the romance and story !
I didn’t read the first book in this series but I didn’t need to to be able to get into this one, so it really is a stand-alone. I enjoyed the give-and-take between Ronnie and Jack and how their relationship developed despite the baggage Ronnie carried with her. I thought the twists and other characters were interesting and kept me guessing. Lori has a great writing style that keeps the reader engaged in the story and caring about the characters. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Until I read Slow Ride and Driven to Distraction I had very little knowledge about courier services and what they entailed. Honestly, I questioned how a courier service would make for a setting for a book series. I am happy to say the courier service is a great platform for this book series. It opens up a world of new characters and unique collectors and the people who work for them. Ronnie is one of the most fascinating characters Lori Foster has written in a long time. Ronnie is a woman living her life on her own terms and taking care of herself after surviving a troubled past. We met Jack Crews in Driven to Distraction and I am so glad he has his own book. He is a strong, supportive guy who loves his friends and family. Ronnie and Jack’s relationship develops with the humor, wit, and romance Foster delivers in her books. In Slow Ride, Lori Foster shows us our family isn’t necessarily the one created by genetics but the one we create with the people who love and accept us as we are.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
As with all of Lori’s books, I have fallen in love with the whole cast of characters. Jack and Ronnie’s story is a really one of my favorite. Ronnie is so strong and damaged that you just can’t help feel a connection to her. I had been waiting for Jack’s story and let me just say this book delivered. Such a wonderful couple that has such patience, love and passion that jumps off the page. Slow Ride has just the right amount of sizzle, sweet and suspense to keep the pages flipping by quickly.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
Lori Foster has masterfully grabbed your attention with a set of characters you will love just like all the rest. And just like with the first book in this series, Howler is the star. I am not sure there is anything that dog could do at this point that would make me love him less…he is just so perfect for this family of misfits. Jack is a little different then Brodie, or so you think. At first it didn’t seem as though Ronnie was necessarily the right fit for him, but once you got to know her more and see his way with her you fell in love with them together. His and Ronnie’s chemistry is off the charts, and there first meeting at the bar is hilarious how it was super-hot…and then screeching brakes…but beginning are supposed to make you want to turn the page and Lori Foster delivered the perfect beginning to where you had to keep turning the pages to know what happened next. This book gives you mystery, baggage, romance, and an adorable rescue dog, what could be better. Truth be told I missed work the day after I received my copy because I stayed up all night to finish it. Trust me you will love this book, just make sure you read Driven to Distraction first. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this thrilling and shocking story of Ronnie Ashford and Jack Crews. Author Lori Foster does an amazing job at creating relatable characters you become invested in and then she throws a few twist and turns along the way leaving you gripping on the edge of your seat.
Ronnie Ashford and Jack Crews could not be more different. Ronnie is rough around the edges, lacks family and roots, and she works alone. Jack, is smooth talking, wears suits, hes a family man and wears his heart on his sleeve.
When Ronnie is forced by her employer to get a partner, she never thought it would be Jack Crews. Along the way Ronnie and Jack are forced to rely on eachother as a matter of life and death, causing this book to be a real page turner.
I was given an advanced copy and this is my honest opinion.
3.5 Stars
Ms Foster brings us back to the Crews brothers of Mustang Transportation, this time focusing on Jack and his unlikely lady Ronnie.
Jack and Ronnie (along with Jack’s family) were easy to like and it was a pleasure to watch Ronnie come out of her shell.
A suspense filled sub plot helped move the story along at a nice pace and was a great vehicle for Jack and Ronnie’s developing relationship.
The secondary cast is fairly small, primarily the Crews family and Ronnie’s employers. While this is a standalone read, the series is sequential meaning there are glimpses of Brodie and Mary from book 1 and we see a little more of other characters who will play a key role in book 3.
Slow Ride is an entertaining read that lived up to the expectations I have for Ms Foster’s work. The characters and situations are unique and I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Good second installment in the Road to Love series. This one is about Jack, brother to Driven to Distraction’s Brodie. Jack is the face of their business, Mustang Transport Courier Service, as he presents a more refined persona than Brodie does. Where Brodie is blunt and occasionally on the raunchy side, Jack tends to be calm and polite to just about everyone. Both men are drop-dead gorgeous, protective, and bad-ass when they need to be.
Ronnie was in town to meet with the man her employers wanted to hire as her driver when she purchased items for their collections. She didn’t want the help. Over the years Ronnie learned that the only person she could depend on was herself. She planned to offer him the job, but convince him not to take it. In the meantime, she wanted a distraction, and the sexy guy who walked into the bar was just what she was looking for.
The chemistry between Jack and Ronnie was combustible from the very beginning. Ronnie knew she wanted him as soon as she saw him, and Jack was right there with her. That first meeting was intense but also funny. Ronnie made her desire very clear and was in a rush to make it happen. Jack was just as attracted, but he was also somewhat amused by her intensity. He got a kick out of throwing a delay in the works by insisting on eating his meal first. But once he finished, he planned to enjoy himself. The sparks flew between them until he happened to mention his name, at which point Ronnie threw on the brakes. If they were going to work together, there would be no hanky-panky.
I loved the development of the relationship between Jack and Ronnie. Jack was determined to get her into his bed, but he also saw that he would have to get past her walls first. Spending so much time together to collect the items for her bosses gave them time to get to know each other and for Jack to show Ronnie that she could trust him. I loved his patience and his ability to put Ronnie at ease, making it easier for her to open up about herself. Her prickliness and independence fascinated Jack and no matter what she did to try to push him away, Jack would not budge. I loved how easily he saw past that façade to the woman underneath, and how much he liked her. Ronnie worked hard to keep Jack at an emotional distance, but his clear respect for her and her abilities went a long way toward getting past her walls. She also had some serious self-esteem issues making it difficult for her to believe that he truly wanted her just as she is. The chemistry between Ronnie and Jack was intense. I loved watching the tension between them build until they could no longer hold back. One of the best things was seeing the always- in-control-of-himself Jack lose it when he was with Ronnie. The connection between them went much deeper than either expected it to. Jack accepted it first and became intent on showing Ronnie that they belonged together. She was a tough nut to crack, intent as she was in protecting her heart from further pain. I loved their big moment at the end, as Ronnie finally believed that Jack’s love wasn’t going anywhere.
I liked the suspense in this story better than the previous one, as it seemed more intense. Some disturbing occurrences were what drove Ronnie’s bosses to insist on her hiring Jack as a driver/bodyguard. Ronnie wasn’t convinced that she was in real danger at first, but escalating events finally made her see reason. I loved Jack’s protectiveness, and even Ronnie eventually had to admit that she felt safer with him. The occasional part told from the bad guy’s point of view made the danger Ronnie was in practically ooze off the page. The final confrontation was truly frightening for both Ronnie and Jack. I loved Ronnie’s presence of mind and her contribution to her rescue. I ached for Jack who was afraid that he would lose her. That confrontation had me on the edge of my seat until it was over.
The secondary characters are fantastic. Ronnie’s bosses just seem weird at the beginning, and more interested in their odd acquisitions than in Ronnie’s safety. But the more I saw of them, the more I liked them. It was also clear by the end that they cared for Ronnie and thought of her as family. As far as families go, Ronnie’s was horrible. I hated the things that they did (and didn’t do) to her. Jack’s family, on the other hand, was wonderful. I loved their closeness and their support of each other. There was also a lot of teasing that went on, and it was fun to watch Ronnie’s reactions when she was around them. I also adored the way that Jack’s mom, plus Charlotte and Mary, mad Ronnie one of them so easily. The makeup session part was hysterical, and I loved seeing Jack and Brodie trip all over themselves trying to recover from stupid comments. I can’t wait to read Charlotte’s book. But my favorites had to be Howler and Peanut. I loved that mutt in the previous book, and he continued to make me smile and laugh in this one. Peanut was the kitten that Jack and Ronnie rescued and who wormed his way into both their hearts. I loved the parts of Howler and Peanut together and the image of that big dog taking care of a tiny kitten.
Ronnie Ashford is asked by her employers to offer Jack Crews a job and she tries to convince him not to take it. The brothers feel like Ronnie needs a man to go with her for protection, but she doesn’t need anyone’s help. However, they meet at a bar the night before and before they could leave together she finds out who he is.
Jack Crews is determined to connect anyway he can with Ronnie but he has to convince her that she belongs with him. With someone being after Ronnie things get a little complicated/uncomfortable but they manage to work it out. It helps Brodie is on Jack’s side and that makes Ronnie interested.
For some reason it takes me a few chapters to get into the story of this series, once I was able to do that I really enjoyed the story. There was just the right amount of suspense, drama, romance, and excitement. I’m really glad that I gave Ronnie and Jack a chance! The brothers that Ronnie works for are both charming and funny and you can tell how much they care about Ronnie’s safety. Jack and Ronnie are interesting characters with one being open to love and the other being timid but trusting of people.

4 1/2 STARS!
A rollercoaster of emotion, sass and sizzling hot chemistry! With the second book in her Road to Love series, Lori Foster brings us a cast of familiar faces, adorable animals and a proof yet again what an incredible family this is turning out to be. We loved his brother Brody in Book One, and now we’re getting to know Jack, and he’s YUMMY! The connection between him and Ronnie is off the charts hot and his protective streak is coming on strong. Really enjoyed their story and am looking forward to what’s to come!
Ronnie Ashford is dreading the job offer she’s being forced to make. Her bosses are like family to her, so she can’t let them down but she just feel like their worry isn’t warranted. She can do the same great job she’s been doing … without adding a man to the mix!
Jack Crews thinks it’s his lucky night when a stunning woman starts giving him the eye across the room. She makes it clear she wants one night … no names, no promises. How was he to know the mere sound of his name being tossed out by a buddy as they walked out of the bar would bring their time together to a screeching halt? It seems she’s the woman he has an appointment with tomorrow … and he’s the man she’s determined to get to turn down the job offer she has for him. Yeah, not happening.
