A gentle bartender might have what it takes to mend a relationship-phobic detective’s broken heart… but first they have to admit they’re dating.Keenan Day could kick himself for letting the hot, dark-haired stranger he met outside a strip club get away. Instead of a phone number, he gets a punch in the face—from the boyfriend of his prospective employer at the Cowboys and Angels bar. When two … When two cops come to check up on him, one is the sexy stranger, Detective Nate Gordon.
The initial attraction hasn’t cooled, and though Nate is leery of commitment, one hookup turns into another until they’re seeing each other in everything but name. After a recent nasty breakup, Nate balks at being part of a couple, and Keenan agrees, even though that’s all he’s ever wanted.
Just as they reach a standstill, a crisis shows them what their friends have known all along—they’ve already moved way past hookups. Now they just have to decide how to move forward.

A sweet and steamy romance with compelling characters and an engaging premise. Surprised at the number of typos. Really enjoyed this series.

Slow Dating the Detective is the third book in the Cowboys and Angels series by Sue Brown. I had the pleasure of reading the other two books in the series, and I loved all of the cameos from the characters in the other two books in the series. I also loved how the book started out with Keenan being dragged to a strip club where, instead of it being female strippers, the strippers were males, and we get to see Cris, The Lionman, preform for the last time at his new club Mane Event. We meet Cris in the second book, Secretly Dating the Lionman, and it was great seeing how he was doing. I also liked getting to see more of Dan and Gideon from the first book, Speed Dating the Boss, when Keenan gets laid off and gets a job as a bartender at Cowboys and Angels.
I loved Keenan. He’s had a hard life so far. He got a really bad injury that kept him from getting a job in the field that he went to college for and left him having to relearn how to walk and talk again. And although he is fully recovered, his mother is still very protective of him and what’s happening in his life. With his settlement money from the accident, he was able to purchase a small house and reassert his independence from his parents. I do like how they have Sunday dinner at the parents’ house with his siblings and their families. I also liked that Keenan has a twin sister that works as a detective for the same precinct as Nate.
Nate is a recent transfer from Wyoming. He’s a workaholic, and he’s leery of commitment. He does hookups and doesn’t do relationships or dating. But his hookup with Keenan turns into another until they’re seeing each other in everything but name. It’s everything that Keenan has wanted in a relationship, but he doesn’t know if it is a relationship, although all of his friends and family and coworkers say that it is. But when push comes to shove, will Nate admit that they are in a relationship or will he cut ties and run. You’re just going to have to read the book to find out.
Although you don’t have to read the other two books in the series to understand and enjoy Nate and Keenan’s story, it will definitely enhance your reading experience if you do so you can appreciate all of the cameos from Cris, Dan, and Gideon. I’m hoping that Ramon and Mickey will be getting a book of their own soon.
I quite enjoyed this book, which has an apt title because it’s a lovely slow-burn romance. Although this book is the third in a series, I was told it could be read as a stand-alone. And it worked. The story is set against the backdrop of the bar Cowboys and Angels, and the boys from the previous books make their appearance, but it all centers around Keenan and Nate.
The story is told from Keenan’s point of view, which made it easy to like him. You had to admire what he made out of his life after what he has gone through. The one POV is probably the reason I had a harder time warming up to Nate, especially because of the way he acted all cold and warm. It was mentioned in passing that he has trust issues, but I never learned the real reason he behaved the way he did. It did get better further down the story as in Nate is more an “actions speak louder than words” kind of guy, but still I couldn’t really relate to him and know what made him tick. It’s obvious though that Keenan is head over heels for him.
I love the family dynamic. The teasing and support of Keenan’s parents and sisters were wonderful, even if the approach was sometimes cause for some eye-rolling on Keenan’s part, but all throughout the story, you felt the love. Also, the rest of the cast (Gideon, Dan, Ramon) is worth mentioning.
The story is rather low on angst, with just a few miscommunications that are quickly solved. I missed some background about Nate, and I wouldn’t have minded a few more references to Keegan coping with his fatigue.
The writing is very pleasant, though, and it kept me engrossed in the story. And I enjoyed this book so much that I will go back and read the first two books in the series. It’ll be fun to get (re)acquainted with all the key players.
This is book three and can be read as a standalone but if you read the first two you will have a better understanding of the other characters especially Gideon and Dan ( book One). I had figured this would be Ramon and Mikey and was surprised at the new characters Keenan and Nate. I did like them though.
I loved the first two books but have to say I was slightly disappointed with this one. I felt it had a few loose ends and the end got a bit rushed.
Having said that I loved all the characters especially Karen, Keenan’s sister and Ramon. The story is cute and interesting and an allover good romance.
