“A unique, well-written paranormal read with a good dose of suspense, a quirky, funny heroine, and OTT alpha males. Loved it and highly recommend!” —Anna Zaires, New York Times bestselling authorI was supposed to find my brother in South America and bring him home.I wasn’t supposed to get kidnapped in the process… or unearth an ancient blood curse coveted by two of the world’s most powerful, … coveted by two of the world’s most powerful, dangerous werewolf packs.
I definitely wasn’t supposed to develop any feelings other than hate for my brother’s enemy: the ruthless—and beyond obnoxious—Alpha werelock holding me hostage.
In a kinder world, I might’ve stumbled upon a classic werewolf mate-for-life alternate universe and encountered the stuff of romantic fairy tales.
Trust me—this isn’t that world.

OMG!!!!!! Totally awesome world building!!! Milena is a great character with an awesome amount of sarcasm that has these pretentious pricks getting what they deserve. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
ONE INTENSE ADVENTURE!!!
Entralling treat! Hettie rocks this baby from the start. A tumultuous wild ride with a surplus of unexpected misfortune and surprising incidents that blasts all of your emotions into play perfectly. One compelling storyline and gripping plot jolts this baby together smoothly. All the drama, uncertainty, danger and suspense make for one incredible experience. Twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few bumps and bruises bring this baby together fluidly. One non-stop action packed, fast paced, page flipping delight that grabs your attention and holds it until the last page. The characters and scenes are written in true to life form that brings this little guy bursting to life delightfully. Amazing job Hettie, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
There is a lot going on it the beginning of this book. At first it was hard me to follow and halfway thru I finally got it. I recommend this book just stay with it and you will love it too!
This was not what I was expecting when I got this book. It’s actually so much better. I really liked the humor that was mixed in with the seriousness of the book. Each of the characters really brought the story out. I liked how well everything was so vividly described. It wasn’t hard at all to imagine the scenes playing out. I’m super excited about finding out what happens in the next book.
The action and excitement starts from the very beginning with Hettie Ivers’ book, Slip of Fate. Hoping to reunite with her brother following the passing of their mother, 18-year-old, Melina ends up in a world she never imagined existed.
Milena Caro sets off on an adventure to another country to find her brother, Raul, and ends up a kidnapping victim. Her kidnapper takes her to the Reinoso clan compound in hopes of making a deal with the clan’s Alpha to save his son. Things don’t end up going his way and Melina ends up in the custody of the Reinoso family, a family of werelocks.
Milena meets multiple members of the Reinoso clan compound, including Remy, Alcaeus, Alessandra, Alex, and the clan doctor, Kai. The members of the clan subject her to numerous inexplicable “treatments” for her assorted injuries. Despite her less than hospitable treatment by many people in the compound, Melina forms a friendly bond with the eldest member of the family, Alcaeus.
To make matters worse, as well as more confusing, Milena finds herself attracted to Alex, the Alpha of the family. Since becoming his hostage, Alex sends Milena incredibly mixed signals. One minute he wants her gone, the next minute he is staking a claim to her. There is also a tremendous amount of passion ignited between the two, how they will act on it remains the question.
This is a rather quick read. Milena’s unbelievable situation pulls you in so you want to find out if she escapes from her captures to find her brother or if she stays at her present location. Does she end up falling for Alex, the man who has threatened her brother’s life, or does she put family first? Hettie Ivers leaves you with a cliffhanger making you yearn for more of these characters who quickly grab a hold of you and don’t let go. Even if you just read this book, do it. As someone who has now read the first three books in this series, I highly recommend the prequel, Girl from Jussara and the follow up to Slip of Fate, Fear the Heart.
I tend to get lost in the books I read. I tune everything out around me and before I know it, the story has ended and I’m left with a mixture of emotions. If it’s a cliffhanger, I’m opening up the bookstore on my kindle and rushing to find out if the next in the series is out. If it’s not, I have a moment of “Damn the Man” emotions and add the title for the next one on my notepad. If it’s a HEA (Happily Ever After) moment, it’s “YAY! It’s about time!” I still go looking to see if there is another in the series. If there is not, I’m checking out the rest of the books an author has. I have to say though too, there are some books that make me just make me mad and frustrated. With that entire back story, I have to say that I hands down, loved this book! I’m a sucker for a good romance and some steam added into the paranormal jumble.
Slip of Fate follows the journey of Milena as she makes the decision to find her brother. She has lost her mother and is all alone in the world. The one connection she has is to Raul. If she can find him, then maybe she can find some sort of order in her life again. Maybe she can feel stronger over all. Right off the bat, Hettie leads us into the turmoil. Milena is kidnapped at the airport when she lands in South America. Scared and confused, she has no idea what it is that she’s done or why. Her kidnappers take her to somewhere and inform her she’s going to be a trade off for the live of another. She figures that pretty much, this is it? This is the end of her life and how can she possibly survive anything more? She had been assaulted in more than one way just in the drive from one destination to another.
But now, her path is altered and she finds conflicting emotions of calm, fear, peace, lust and anger. Who can she trust? Can she trust the two men and woman who say that she can’t be handed over to Alex because of her brother? She asks all these questions and she can’t get a clear answer. As the arguments about her status ensue, she meets Alex for the first time. It’s a meeting that sets the precedence of the rest of the book.
From there, Hettie takes you on a paranormal roller coaster as you try to sort out the true complexity of the werelock history and culture. She feeds you little snippets of each character past to keep you engaged and guessing. The complexity of the relationship between the characters is gripping! If you were to stop and look at the relationship between Milena and Alex, Milena and Remy, Milena and Alaceaus especially, it’s really interesting. At any time Hettie could have shifted. She could have had the characters focus change into an even more complex story. That is just one of the things that keep you engrossed into the story as a whole.
Milena has to face for the very first time as well the true attraction she can have to another person. Let alone three! She’s been an innocent that way for so long, she’s does not trust what it all really means. With a man who makes no apologies for his escapades, she questions if she isn’t just another conquest along the way. As the story unfolds, she keeps trying to find the truth, even when it knocks her down.
When I do a review, I try to add in something that I might not have cared for, or would have liked changed. The only thing I would have loved is if it was longer and the whole story in one. But if that happened, then there would be no fun for Hettie right?
This book is truly a roller coaster ride! Hettie left it at the very best possible cliff hanger I’ve read. I’m so hooked; I can’t wait for the release of the second one in May 2016! Fair warning my friends, get your comfy clothes on, grab your blanket and settle in for a marathon read! You might want to bring some tissues and a fan as well. There are some true steamy, sexy, lustful moments too! This book is one I’d recommend to anyone who loved paranormal, romance, and erotica. I can’t wait to read more from Hettie Ivers!
An intriguing tale of fated mates that turn out to be enemies in this paranormal-romance. How do you start out a relationship when the deck is already stacked against you? How can your future be anything but bleak when fate had a twisted sense of humor by tying your life to the man who says he wants to kill your brother and holds you captive? That is situation Milena finds herself in.
This book is a hard one for me because she spends about 40% of the book unconscious, just listening to snip-its of conversations. She’s a naive girl who thinks that her life was wonderful before her brother left 9 years ago even though he never contacted her or was there while her mother was dying. Yet this 19yo thinks she can save her brother who is 8 year older and had a life she obviously knows nothing about. She continues through most of the book (and series) to be in denial. It’s quite annoying. I enjoyed the unique plot, but could have done without the utter cluelessness of Milena
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
