Great contempary story!
The story’s flow and angle are amazing. I love how the how different and unique this book is by having a single mother being the main focus. Its such a refreshing read.
Emily is just real and I love her. She’s kind of a hot mess – a klutzy, curvy, successful author, did I mention klutzy , and great mom. This is a contemporary RH. I related to Emily’s insecurities and liked how she challenged herself. I liked how the guys put the kids first. There were parts that made me smile and some that made me cry, but it all just felt real. I hope we get to visit them again.
Confession time. I was nervous about reading this book. I frigging love the series this author is co-writing, but I didn’t love her first solo book. It was alright, but it didn’t bowl me over. When the teasers started I was really interested: it’s a novel about a divorced mom with kids getting into an RH relationship. That rarely happens in RH, so it was definitely intriguing.
Now, this isn’t truly the “other side” of RH: how RH works with kids. But it gets close to that. This is such a good book. The only reason I put this book down was because I was on the point of exhaustion, but I still finished it in less than 24 hours. I’m so glad I decided to give it a go. Emily is every typical mom, with schedules and bickering and insanity on the outside, with the insecurities of being self conscious, trying to be someone outside of “Mom,” and still trying to feel like you’re a good enough parent on the inside. THIS. This is a protagonist I can relate to. Like, ACTUALLY relate to. Most importantly, though, I can still vicariously live through her and enjoy the story. It’s a fine line that the author has definitely found with this book. What I also really liked about this book was that it wasn’t insta-love. We all know someone it’s happened to, but by and large, that’s not real life. And I’m not going to harp about “realistic”in a novel; most people read as a form of escapism and enjoyment. They don’t want real life. But love at first sight would not have been believable for this character, not with three kids. That does not mean this is slow burn or fade to black. It’s definitely not. But it has a good pace on it, the story moves along nicely, and you get swept up in Emily’s story. There was a bit towards the end that I was worried there was going to be a cliffhanger. However, I can confirm there is not in fact a cliffhanger (thank whatever deities you believe in). That said, I’m still super into this storyline, and I’m excited to see what book 2 is going to bring in.
This was fantastic to read, there are not enough RH reads out there with children involved. I know it’s not “sexy” to have children in the mix but it’s far more honest and frankly very realistic, in my opinion anyway. I absolutely loved the single mother angle and it was done in such a perfect way. Quinn Arthurs managed to fit the full spectrum of emotions into this read, making it believable, easy to relate to and entertaining. I was only one chapter in and already felt emotionally invested in Emily, her children, and the outcome of the book. I was drawn in right away and captivated by the story that Quinn did an incredible job weaving. The emotion was real, the scenario even more so and the conflict and turmoil were all extremely authentic. I’m so glad I read this book and cannot wait to read more, I highly recommend this contemporary read.
I absolutely positively loved this book!
I was completely hooked before I had even finished the first page and I stayed hooked right up until the very end of the story.
So many ups and downs and twists and turns that I definitely felt like I was on a wild roller coaster ride.
This is my first time reading anything by Quinn Arthurs and I must say I’m hooked on her story weaving style so much I went and bought several other books that she’s written because I’m digging her awesome work.
So it’s a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book because I thought it was amazing and I think everyone should read it!
I really enjoyed this book! It was sweet and made me laugh out loud.
Who would have thought that second chances come not once, but thrice?
Newly divorced Emily thought it would be wise to moved back to her hometown and start over again. Taking care of her three kids while writing sci-fi novels for a living, Emily has no time for anything even for herself. Until she met her neighbor, Alex and his two best friends Max and Troy.
For those who have watched the movie “Home Again” and left wishing it should have been an RH, then this book is for you. The book was very well written, characters well fleshed out and very relatable. The angst the characters were going through on overcoming the stigma of being in a polyamorous relationship is very realistic. To say that I was hooked is an understatement. This book made me laugh, cry and fall in love all over again; and in my book, this warrants a solid 10.
I cannot wait for the next one!
