When everything is on the line, how far will you go to protect those you love? What if the cost of saving them is your soul? Would you pay it? I thought I was prepared for what was coming; that if I made sacrifices, I could win this game. I’m no longer afraid of the darkness or the monsters that hide in the shadows. I’ve become what I feared most, allowing it in to protect those I loved. … to protect those I loved.
Sometimes it takes a monster to win. Sometimes to fight monsters, you have to become one.
My only fear is…can I come back from it?

About the hero: chances are you may not fall instantly in love with him, that’s because I don’t write men you instantly love; you grow to love them. I don’t believe in instant-love. I write flawed, raw, caveman-like assholes that eventually let you see their redeeming qualities. They are aggressive, assholes, one step above a caveman when we meet them. You may not even like him by the time you finish this book, but I promise you will love him by the end of this series.
About the heroine: There is a chance, that you might think she’s a bit naïve, or weak, but then again who starts out as a badass? Badasses are a product of growth and I am going to put her through hell, and you get to watch her come up swinging every time I knock her on her ass. That’s just how I do things. How she reacts to the set of circumstances she is put through, may not be how you as the reader, or I as the author would react to that same situation. Everyone reacts differently to circumstances and how Magdalena responds to her challenges, is how I see her as a character and as a person.
I don’t write love stories: I write fast paced, knock you on your ass, make you sit on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next books. If you’re looking for cookie cutter romance, this isn’t for you. If you can’t handle the ride, un-buckle your seatbelt and get out of the roller-coaster car now. If not, you’ve been warned. If nothing outlined above bothers you, carry on and enjoy the ride!

ALL of Amelia’s books are unputdownable!!! A MUST READ AUTHOR!!!
Sleeping with Monsters is book 2 in Amelia Hutchins’ Playing with Monsters Series. If you haven’t read book 1 or the other series ‘Fae Chronicles’ and ‘The Elite Guard’ it is highly recommend as to not miss out on key parts of the story. The Fae Chronicles series is Ryder and Synthia’s story, Playing with Monsters series is Lucian and Lena’s story and The Elite Guard is Ristan and Olivia’s story.
The recommended reading order is as follows;
*Fighting Destiny (FC book1)
*Taunting Destiny (FC book2)
*Escaping Destiny (FC book3)
*Seducing Destiny (FC book4)
*A Demons Dark Embrace (TEG book1)
*Playing with Monsters (PWM book1)
*Unraveling Destiny (FC book5)
*Sleeping with Monsters (PWM book2)
Wow, oh wow, oh wow this book is one emotional roller coaster. It is jam packed with lust, hate, betrayal, love, and loss. It has some very steamy moments that will have you blushing. The characters are so well thought out and the story will have you guessing with every page you read. I didn’t think that Amelia’s book could get any better but I was wrong and this whole series just proves why Amelia Hutchins is the Queen of Paranormal. (I bow my head to you). You will be on the edge of your seat to the very end of this book, and when you get to the end you will start to question and curse Amelia for leaving you with this big hole in your chest because the book is finished. I know I feel hollow and empty like a piece of me was left behind in the book.
I am dying to know what Lucian is. There was several times in the book I thought yes here we go we are going to finally get told what Lucian is, to only end up with more questions with no answers…
I’m sorry I am not able to go in to detail about what the book is as I don’t think 1. I could do it justice and 2. It will ruin the suspense and story. The only thing I can say is READ it if you haven’t already, I promise you will not be disappointed.
~A soul for a soul~
Oh well!!!
Just by typing the words I get really shaken up.
Let me just tell you all, Amelia Hutchins didn’t became one of my favorite authors just because.
With the wrecking-earth-shaking cliffhanger she gave us on “Playing With Monsters” I thought she was satisfied with all the pain and suffering she delivered us lol but clearly, this is just the beginning.
For those who read the first book, already know that perfectly imperfect relationship Lena and Lucian have. A tragic, savage, carnal, caring, and beautiful love that can’t be extinguish.
But there is more to tell in this book. Amelia, true to her word, described us how the young and inexperienced Lena, learns the cruelty of the world she lives in.
I was fascinated of how strong she becomes and how mentally and physically powerful she is.
Even with light, you will always going to find darkness.
There are secrets that finally are going to be reveal in this book. Lies that were created to protect but also to inflict pain. And sacrifices that have to be make in order to save more than one life.
But not only Lena will struggle, our dear Lucian as well. He will question himself for every action he is going to face.
Is he really cursed to love? Or is he going to finally win this time?
I was so hooked up with how much feelings were poured into every chapter. You can really fell an emotional and devastated journey that even if it breaks your heart, you will love every single minute of it.
It’s really difficult as it is not try to say too much and explain how I became an addict of Amelia’s books and I’m not ashamed to say it lol but I invite every single PNR reader and even the new ones on this genre, to give it a try.
It will hurt, it will destroyed you, it will make you laugh and it will make you ask for more.
You need to read the other books in Amelia Hutchins series and in order before reading this book. Let me just tell you her series is amazeballs!! If you like Kresley Cole, J.R. Ward, and so forth you will gobble her books right the hell up!
“Your love is the purest thing you have, and when you give it, you move mountains to protect it”
Heart – Broken – Shredded – Nothing but shattered pieces left
I have no words for how this ended except I still have hope
“I crave you like a drug addict on a f^%cking bender in need of a fix. ”
Oh Lucian- I get it now
Spyder I kinda like you,and I’m sorry, I know this was not how you saw it playing out
Kendra don’t
And the rest of you
Dammmnnnnn
Seriously I need to dry my eyes and catch my breath
This picks up a bit after book one ended
Time has moved forward and the pieces that Lucian put into play are about to topple
He did what he believed he had to do –
Not all sacrifices are physical – Obvious to the observer
Be prepared and keep an open mind
Nothing and I do mean NOTHING is as you believe it to be
My heart broke and reformed. Amelia Hutchins is a queen at bringing you into the worlds she creates and making you feel everything her characters are going through. This is a rare gift and she wields it masterfully.
Hold on to anything you can!
Wooo baby. What a ride this addition took us on. I never saw it coming. I can’t wait to see what is in store for us next!!
This was a story like no other. An intense, all consuming read. It’s one that’ll take you for one crazy, wild ride. The twists and turns just kept coming until the very end. There’s even a few surprises that’ll throw you for a loop. Definitely recommend.
This book had twist and the ending is not what you would expect.
Loved it!
Great concept… terrible execution. These could have been SOOOOO MUCH better with even just a smidge more depth, consistentency and less repetitive dialogue… I hope to never read “midnight eyes” again. What happened when Spyder was sent after the Archangels?? Nothing is ever mentioned again… Hutchins writes good sex, but even that became repetitive. I read all 3 so I gave 3 stars but I hoped they’d get better… they certainly didn’t, therefore you only got $5.00 of my hard earned dollars.
Amazing follow up to the first book, I will never get enough of Lucian Blackstone!!! This book though will have you begging for more!!!
That was unexpected
Hmmm, Lets start with I hate Lena… The love-hate relationship she have with Lucian made me crazy and almost put the book down… But hey its Amelia who made this & I know she’ll make it worth it.
And YES!!! She did! Omfg this book.. It was unpredictable, heart…
It took me a few days to get my thoughts together for a review…
First, I love this world. It is not like any other fantasy world I have read and it’s amazingly detailed without the hum drum descriptions you get in other novels.
I took my time reading this book and savored each chapter. I have only read the first two books in this series by this author and am eager for more (of the series and from this author). I loved book one and was left with so many feelings that I put off reading book two (even though I had already downloaded it to my kindle when I was about 20% into book 1). When I started “Sleeping with Monsters” I kicked myself for waiting so long to get back to Lena and Lucian. I did the same thing I had done before, downloaded the next book in the series thinking I would jump right in. But, after reading ‘Monsters’ I need a moment…
There were a few revelations about Lena, her family and her coven that kept me intrigued. Lucifer comes out to play and is eager to have a taste of Lucian’s girl. Lucian and his crew take drastic steps to keep Lena protected. Lena, of course, is a little more wreck less when it comes to her safety. We saw a preview of how powerful Lena was in book one and we definitely see that she is most powerful in her coven in book two.
I did find it frustrating that the players in the story did not talk to each other about the things that were important. Lucian and Lena would just get mad at each other instead of having a real conversation. I understand that the things they keep to themselves are important to the overall story, it’s just something that drives me crazy in books in general.
The end of this novel wrecked me. There is no question that Lena loves those around her will all that she is, and the ending is proof of that. Another reviewer said she cried for over an hour and I’m right there with her. I would recommend this series to anyone who asks and I look forward to the next book (once I’m brave enough to start it).
Credit given, where credit is due…
This is going to sound bad but I wasn’t going to admit to reading/ listening to this one. I was reading under the radar. How do I explain that I enjoyed a story that wasn’t well executed? I can’t say I’m a huge fan of one of the narrators and her monotone reading or how Amelia Hutchins loves to draw out her plotlines.
BUT…
It’s really easy to get sucked into these Monster’s lives and their world. I’m fascinated to see what the Witches will do to protect their Coven. I’m intrigued with Lucian and Spyder and I don’t care what type of Monster they are, I want to know more about them. I find Lena’s character a bit strange. She spends most of her time being taken advantage of, or abused yet she goes back for more if it means protecting her loved ones. Then we get to catch up with Synthia, Ryder and The Fae Chronicles gang which always puts a smile on my face. The characters make these stories and I’m always desperate for more.
And…the sexy times…OH MY LORDY!! Action stations!! It’s Kinky Time!! These characters go at it like rabbits and there are NO inhibitions about where and who you’re doing it in front of. Now, in a normal contemporary romance, this would horrify me and probably have me scoffing at their confidence and inhibitions. Put it in a paranormal/fantasy and it’s really, really HOT!!
I’ll admit if I had read Sleeping With Monsters, I probably wouldn’t have rated it as high. From my past reading experiences, I know that Amelia Hutchins is not noted for her editing skills and I’m a bit of a stickler for correct spelling and grammar. Listening saves me from the eye-twitches and the need for a red pen.
I bought the Kindle version (about $5.00) and added the Audible (about $2.00), and to me, that was a pretty good deal. I don’t mind paying for a good story and by listening, avoided the frustration of bad grammar. Paying $2.00 for the audio, I can’t really complain about the monotone reading. At least her voice was clear and easy to understand. I kind of wish we got a bit more time listening to Aiden Snow (the male narrator), though. He definitely brings a little more emotion to the story and with that deep voice of his, it’s easy to picture these Monsters.
So, I’m glad I took the gamble and went back to Playing With Monsters. Will I go back for more? Only if it comes out on Audio. Yes, I want to know what’s going to happen next… CLIFFHANGER ENDING… but I’m not desperate enough to read it.
Harsh review BUT 4 stars. Take from it what you will.
Holy heart break
I cannot believe where this lead. The twists and turns and back again. Wow this will need to reread numerous times not to understand what happens, but simply to digest everything that happens. Ameila I’m sure you hear the voices cussing you out as we reach certain parts of these books. But that only means you have written an excellent book that pulled us into it with our hearts and minds.
I absolutely loved this book!!! It’s not your typical PNR it’s not all hearts and rose it’s dark heartbreaking, soul wrenching and it will destroy what you believe a HEA is supposed to be. Amelia did warned us that this book was going to wreck us. She was right it totally destroyed me!!! I laughed, my heart broke a couple of time, I cried, and just felt emotionally drained. But I loved every moment of it!!! Since I’m not one to give spoilers you’ll just have to check it out for yourself to see what I’m talking about. Overall a fantastic read. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Very few books can boast that they drew a real emotion from me…this one did…I won’t say I cried, but MAAAAYYYBE there was some dust in the air…yup. That’s how it went…Haha! This one kicked me right in the effing feels!! I am gonna go rock myself back and forth until book 3 comes out…yeah, solid plan…I need tissues…anyone got any tissues?? It’s allergies, I swear!! I loved this book!!
Excellent book!! I couldn’t wait to read the next one!
This book was awesome! Just when you think you have the story figured out, it goes in another direction. Love love love it!
