#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: what might happen if women disappeared from the world of men? In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is … awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent. And while they sleep they go to another place, a better place, where harmony prevails and conflict is rare.
One woman, the mysterious “Eve Black,” is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Eve a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain? Abandoned, left to their increasingly primal urges, the men divide into warring factions, some wanting to kill Eve, some to save her. Others exploit the chaos to wreak their own vengeance on new enemies. All turn to violence in a suddenly all-male world.
Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women’s prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously dramatic father-son collaboration that feels particularly urgent and relevant today.more
Thrilling, unpredictable, and absolutely original. This father/son collaborative effort was fantastic. I hope they work together on another novel again.
Quite a long read, but enjoyable. Classic Steven King, reminded me of miniseries with all the different characters involved. Hopefully men will read it and realize just how much women are needed and how strong we can be. Gonna read a little shorter book now.
It’s a lot like Under the Dome, only instead of a dome keeping everyone inside the bubble, it’s in a coccune, and it affects the sleeping WOMEN only.
Had a hard time putting this book down . . . . .
This is a real return to King’s early story-telling, putting me in mind of stories like The Stand and Salem’s Lot – slow burn creepy with characters you absolutely root for (or hate). Longterm Kind fans will be delighted. This is original and strangely beautiful.
I love the author.. Stephen King is by far the Master of Horror
I would love to see this book made into a movie. It was a great story that kept you interested through the whole book.
Interesting premise in the Me-Too era. But kinda sucky overall.
Two Kings here = amazing book. It is quite a long book, but once you start reading, you won’t notice. Original yet still the best of Stephen King! You know when you begin his books that you will have a myriad of characaters to keep track of as you go. As a fan for over 30 years, I can now also add Owen King to my list of authors to read. Original story, interesting characters and a solid ending.
Although the book was very long, I persevered. I liked the parts of the book in which the women were featured. The men…..not so much.
Makes you think and realize how badly women have it even in this day and age
I enjoyed reading this book. The story seemed quite original and some parts even believable. There are lots of characters and even with the list in front, it took a while to get to know them all. It was nice to have the list though to refresh your memory if you didn’t know who the person was. It was not surprising to hear this was going to be a short tv movie/series at first. I thought that’s how it read but maybe because the book is so big. It’s a fun read. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a little drama and action in their stories.
Great read
Plot could have moved a little faster. It was reminiscent of Under the Dome. But, a solid read.
I found this book intriguing. It is a very easy read. It was very interesting and on the mark with people – relationships – how we function as individuals versus in a society.
Supernatural adventure. Not sure why, but reminded me somewhat of The Talisman.
Not as much SK as I was expecting. Mostly Owen. Occasionally a little something will remind you of SK, but not a lot. Lots of psychopaths, hard to tell who to dislike the most. Kind of a male-bashing book, but if you have the time a pretty good read. Book leaves lots of unanswered questions about the cause of the Aurora Plague.
another original Stephen king tale!
The characters and story lines in this book are enjoyable. It has a unique and different setting with an interesting focus on a small county in Apalachia.
I like Stephen King alot, but this is one I just couldn’t really get into…too meanandering, you almost get lost in it yourself.
