**spoiler alert** Chapter One almost did me in for this book and I almost DNF after Chapter 3, but I stuck it out to the end. The writing and story both got better after those first few chapters mostly. Almost all of repeated lines from the vampires belong in an old cheesy movie and some of the things in the first chapter just seemed ridiculous from the shifter rules to the name for humans. While the type of shifter(s) were more unique than most shifter books it seemed a bit ridiculous as well as the shifters having last names that identify what animal their family line turns into! The story was decent after chapter 3, but not great or fantastic or spectacular and I will not be continuing with the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kate Canus has a bit of a problem in Louise Cypress’ Slayer Academy: Secret Shifter – she’s getting the vampire slaying trining she so desperately wants in order to revenge her mom’s murder but there’s a tiny glitch in that the academy targets shifters like her as well as vamps. Ouch. Add to that the need to use her shifter abilities to stop a serial-killing vampire. A quandary indeed, but luckily for us readers the makings for a great story if cooked up right. Luckily this author knows just how to do the cookin’ and the result, this book, is absolutely delicious. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
A smart and fierce female dog shifter determined to find her place in a slayer’s world. First book that I read by this author and was caught in the interesting and entertaining plot development with twists I was not expecting. Liked the adventure, the action and the amusing characters y situations in spite what would had been a horrible scene. Chuckled sometimes! Slayers, vampires, shifters and four leg characters that kept me interesting with their dramas and antics. An intrepid girl who still has a lot to learn. Didn’t know this author before and I’m going to look for more of her books.
Kate Canus has had to fend for herself since he mothers death. Finding her dead was bad enough, but seeing her wake as a vampire, just to be slayed in front of her, made it even worse. That was the first time Kate heard of slayer academy. Today she heard two strangers talking about it and this time she is going to make sure she gets in. Now to gide the fact that she is a shifter…
This is the crossover I didn’t know I wanted. The second I read “La Jolla” l, I was in. Guy with slicked back dark hair and a laptop? I am screaming inside because I know something Kate doesn’t. This can be read without reading any of the other books involved in the crossover. You just wont have to take a break for a happy dance like I did.
Kate is a dog shifter. When she wants to become a vampire slayer at the Slayer Academy, she has to hide just what she is. If they should find out she will be killed. She loves it there and feels like she now has a place to call home and a family. Kate has spent her life in a series of foster homes after her mother was murdered, and felt as if she never belonged. In this book, we meet up with Rolf again and his mother. He is looking for his soulmate whom he saw on a beach five year ago. Can Kate hide from Rolf what she is when they meet at a frat party? Once again, a fabulous story from this very talented author. Cannot wait to read the next book in what I am very sure is going to be an amazing series. Very highly recommended.
That was awesome. Canis is so obvious at least to me. Exciting story. So much going on being a student, working, and also being on the news paper. I liked the ending the most. I hope that there will be more and we can find out more that happens to every one there at the school. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
