THE FIRST PSY/CHANGELING NOVEL from the New York Times bestselling author of Shards of Hope, Shield of Winter, and Heart of Obsidian…The book that Christine Feehan called “a must-read for all of my fans.”In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to … be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation”—the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion—and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities—or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation…

Seriously good fiction! How had I lived this long without reading this book? Awesome blend of sci-fi and paranormal romance. 5 Awesome Stars!
I adore this book. Sascha is very sweet and the male lead (I’m drawing a blank on his name at the moment) isn’t the giant jerkhead of many romance novels.
Notably, I’m giving it five stars for a romance novel; it knows what it is, and there’s plot there, and it’s good, interesting in fact, but it’s primarily sex. If it were not a romance novel, and it had the sex reduced greatly–well I’d give it five stars still, honestly. I’m actually somewhat sad I don’t gaff the option to read a version with little to no sex; the sex is well written, but I’m genuinely much more interested in the plot, the development of the characters, etc.
New series with new author I didn’t know about. Loved her psy world, hot men, and strong women. Filled my romance book need with quirky, different scenarios. Haven’t felt like this since read J.R. Ward’s Black Daggar Brotherhood series.
I recently discovered the Psy-Changeling series, and all I can say is the ONLY advantage to being late to this series is I get to binge-read them all at once time.
The Psy-Changeling series has a well-realized blend of science fiction and paranormal romance. Excellent characters and satisfying romances, plus a long plot arc to enjoy. SLAVE TO SENSATION starts you on the series journey, and it’s absolutely worth the ride.
I have had the Psy-Changelings series on my ‘want to read’ list for years, but having never read any of Nalini Singh books so many others kept them low on my radar, and after reading Slave to Sensation I want to kick my past self for waiting. I loved it and will be reading the rest of the series, in this one after a Psy serial killer kills one of his packmates Alpha Lucas Hunter uses his construction company to get in with the Psy in hopes of finding the offender. Sascha Duncan is a ‘flawed’ Psy and has a hard time containing her emotions, when Lucas contacts her mothers company for a job she is made point and must work with Lucas as result her ‘Silence’ fractures and in its place love blooms. With the support of Lucas and the rest of his pack Sascha used her powers to help them find the killer.
No Cheating, No Cliffhangers
This book introduced me to the vast world of shifter romance and got me hooked. Lucas Hunter is my alpha.
As a Psy, Sasha Duncan must hide any trace of feeling or emotion or she will be branded as flawed and sent to rehabilitation. As her world is crumbling around her she must deal not only with the truth about her race but the attraction she is feeling for the changeling alpha Lucas Hunter.
It has been years since I read the Psy-Changeling series and I am so glad I decided to reread it. I couldn’t put this book down! It was everything I wanted in a shifter romance. I was instantly sucked into this amazing world and couldn’t put the book down once I started.
Sasha has been hiding her abnormalities since she was a child and realized how dangerous it was for a psy to be different. While extremely powerful she is still uncategorized and everyone believes her abilities will never manifest, but they are. She is something that hasn’t been seen in the Psy population since Silence went into effect. I loved Sasha. She was strong, determined, and willing to sacrifice everything to save a young woman.
“He made her hunger, made her feel raw and wild things that threatened to crack the ever more fragile mask of Psy coldness she wore to survive.”
Lucas Hunter is the alpha of the DarkRiver pack. Lucas, like most of the changelings, hate the psy. But after one day with Sasha he realizes she is different and he is determined to have her help them find a killer. Lucas is the epitome of protective alpha male. I loved that Lucas was extremely protective but still let Sasha be in danger to find the killer.
The relationship and love between these two was so strong and emotional. It was everything I wanted to see in a relationship, especially in a paranormal one. I love these two and really can’t wait to see more of them in future books. I cannot wait to continue my reread of this series and rediscover everyone.
The world is very different in this future timeline. There are three races: Psy, changelings, and humans. The Psy use their x-men-esque powers to control the world. Changelings are shape shifters. And as we all know, humans are resilient lol. Sascha is a Psy with a very serious flaw: she is not the perfectly conditioned, emotionless being she is supposed to be. As a very powerful empath, she is in constant danger from everyone including her own mother. When she acts as her mother’s liaison for a business deal with the local changeling pack, she meets Lucas. Lucas and his pack are either going to be her one shot at avoiding a death sentence from her own people or her executioners. This is some of the best world building out there, and this enormous cast of characters are all worth getting to know! Happy Reading!
Why did I wait so long???!!!
Lucas and Sasha sizzled from their first meeting and their chemistry and bond never got overshadowed by the world building, at least for me.
It was the perfect paranormal romance that I needed right now and can’t wait to dive into book 2!
Hot! Well, Lucas was hot. I liked how he constantly touched Sascha whether by playing with her hair or touching her arm. He was instantly drawn to her and it showed. The fact that her being a Psy who should have lacked emotions didn’t stop him, made him even more intriguing in my book.
It was a bit weird how his packmates rubbed and kissed each other all the time but they were perfect moments to bring out Sascha’s jealousy. It is also nice to see a group of people who can show affection to each other so openly. The cubs were so cute. I hope there are more scenes with them in future books.
The story itself was very interesting. I really couldn’t predict how Sascha was going to be able to get away from the Psy network and be with Lucas. The way this ended proved there is definitely more to come between the Psy and the Changelings. I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.
I don’t normally read paranormal romance stories, but after seeing great reviews for Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series, I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did! I loved the world building between the Psy society and the Changelings. The romance wasn’t overdone or over the top, which I enjoyed. The paranormal/sci-fi aspect made it a definite page-turner. I can’t wait to work my way through the series.
I have heard rave reviews about this series and author. I love a good paranormal romance so I was intrigued. The thing that made me hesitate was the Psy description was kind of alien like and that’s not really my jam but I really wanted to give it a try.
Needless to say by the five star rating I gave it but I absolutely loved this book. Yea the Psy mind network was a little creepy but the author did such an amazing job describing this unique ability and building this fascinating world that I really enjoyed it.
I found Sasha very interesting in her abilities and how she handled being a “defective” Psy. And of course the changelings were right up my ally! The bad guy was kind of predictable but the discovery and plan to get there kept me on my toes. The sexy scenes were sprinkled throughout the book nicely and they were very well written. I very much look forward to reading more in the series and definitely see what the hype was all about!
I absolutely love Nalini Singh! I started reading her Guild Hunter series first and when I realized she had another paranormal series, I just had to check it out. I was not disappointed!
SLAVE TO SENSATION is a futuristic story set in a world with human/animal shifters, referred to as Changelings and the Psy, a society of people who suppress emotions, relying solely on logic. Just think of the Psy as a bunch of Spocks, except they don’t have an awesome greeting 🙂
Sascha is a Psy who has quietly been struggling with feeling emotions. She wouldn’t dare tell anyone especially her mom, who is a member of the ruling body over the Psy, because there are dire consequences to any Psy who exhibit emotion. Sascha struggles every day she’s with Lucas and his pack because their open, loving lifestyle is quickly breaking her resolve and the shields she’s built up in order to protect her secret.
Lucas is the ruggedly handsome leader of his Changeling pack and he has a secret agenda to find a Psy murderer and he thought he hit the jackpot with having to work closely with the Psy, Sascha. Little does Lucas realize is that he is quickly falling for the emotionless beauty that can’t seem to hide her feelings from him.
This book was unbelievable! There is action, mystery, and raw, unbridled passion! I will tell you though that some of the story gets pretty technical, especially when the author is detailing the history and the genealogy of the Psy people. Other than that, I thought the writing was brilliant and the story was captivating and highly entertaining!
***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in 2015 in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
I liked the way the story keep you going. It was a very good story.
Swoon factor is high here!
Until this year, I don’t think I had read a romance about shifters since the Twilight series. Singh’s Psy-Changeling series is beloved by many, and it’s not hard to see why. The worldbuilding is inspired and original, the sexy times are skillfully choreographed, and both the plot and sexual tension keep you turning pages. If you happen to be a fan of alpha heroes, Slave to Sensation is not to be missed. I especially like the fact that the series is set in the near future so it’s also, technically, sci-fi romance.
The world-building is absolutely fascinating and I wholeheartedly adored these characters. I’m mad I haven’t started this series sooner! Angela Dawe is a fantastic narrator too if you want to listen on audio.
I just love this series so much .
Lucas is just so yummy,i just love how he is with Sascha ,the moment he meets her he knows she’s different then other Psy, I really liked how this story came together .
I think i like Sascha better having read this book a 2nd time ,at first I wasn’t sure about her ,but I enjoyed seeing her and Lucas story unfold again .
I love this series and I am so happy that I am re-reading it all over again 🙂
This series rules and if you haven’t read it yet ,you don’t know what your missing .
I waited far too long to dig into this paranormal romance series, and I love it!
