If you have ever read BDSM and thought “what could you do if magic healed and the submissive enjoyed pain,” this book answers that quite well. Our main character is a pleasure slave who has been given to the Winter Queen of Faery – Mab. We’ve seen Mab before in other books by this author and know that she is sadistic and dominant by nature. The slave, now known as Little One, has been trained to enjoy pain all her life, so it is a good match between Queen and slave.
Wow, what a rough and varied experience Little One has with her Queen every day and night. Sometimes I was very uncomfortable reading what was going on but at the same time, I was left thinking that the two main characters found such fulfillment in those same situations. I did enjoy seeing how Queen Mab thought and how Little One grew emotionally.
The majority of the story is from Little One’s point of view. Her POV on what was happening really showed me a completely different side of how Queen Mab’s castle ran. Readers of Candace Blevin’s other works that took place in Faery had a bit of an idea but this story showed how varied the environment was.
There is a point in the story that I was shocked and wondering where we went from here. I cannot wait to read the next book.
THIS is like nothing else out there !!! its a tale from the Fearie but to call it a Fearie Tale is ok if you are Candace Blevins :-p
I love when any character falls deep in love, even if its a scary one like Queen Mabe, but still, this one got me filled with question marks, and its a good thing I’m used to Candace plot twists and how she likes her “not-necessary-horizontal-activities”, but still this book made me go WTF couple of times, but if you know Candace books, you know she makes up with good plots and her humor.
Slave is a first book in a four book series, and let me tell you, I need the next book, like an hour ago !!!!!
The fraze “Little one” will never be the same again after this.
People you have to read this, its a Candace Fearie Tale at its best, and its not something she dabs into so often.
I always eagerly anticipate a new release from Candace Blevins and it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s one of her urban fantasies, paranormal romances, or her safeword series, each and every story is carefully crafted and delivers on impact (pun intended) time and time again.
“Slave” is the first story that exclusively takes place in the faerie realm and it’s a decadent treat. Having read many of Ms. Blevins books (not necessary for this series), I’m already familiar with the Winter Queen and it was with great delight (I might have squeed) when I found out she was getting her own story in all her wicked yumminess.
As with all her books, Ms. Blevins delivers on her characters and the details. Queen Mab has an amazing “soft” side (said carefully) and even a touch of the romantic in her; all while she’s juggling the politics and administrative duties that come with being a queen and giving her pleasure slave exactly what she craves.
“Slave” is book one in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy and it’s an amazing start to this series that I cannot wait to continue.
I’ll be honest, I was a little sad when I finished. I was sad because I cannot wait for the next one!
Even more so than most of her books, this Quadrilogy can be read as a stand-alone from the rest of the Kirsten O’Shea universe. It follows the story of Little One and her life with her new master the Winter Queen. While we know of the Winter Queen from other books your reading experience will not be hampered without that knowledge.
Little One has been a slave her entire life. Some of her masters have been better to and for her than others. Her most recent was not a great fit. Becuase of that he gifted her to the famously cruel Winter Queen. How will Little One deal with the large change? Will the Winter Queen find a favorite new plaything? What will happen if they can no longer be together? Any more and I would give away too much! You just have to read for yourself.
This book is hot hot hot! I originally read the story on Radish and was a little nervous to see how it came out in full novel format. It is SO MUCH BETTER! The story, character, and worlds are much more fleshed out and don’t worry, all of the good bits are still there.
If paranormal BDSM stories are your jam then read this now! All of Blevins books are great and will be right up your alley but this is an amazing entry point.
Queen Mab, the Winter Queen, the Dark Queen, is gifted another slave.
Checking out the new addition to her stable, she’s surprised to find an intriguing little pleasure slave with extraordinary coloring and a burning desire to please her Queen.
With seductive language and her usual prolific imagination, Ms Blevins weaves a colorful, seductive tale, peopling the realm of the Winter Queen with a lush assortment of characters that will make you blissfully shocked, sometimes angry and always deeply involved in the story of Queen Mab and her little one.
I found this to be a love story first and a journey of discovery for both of our main characters second. Set in Faerie, a place we have been introduced to in previous books of Candace Blevins.
Mab, the Dark Queen, is no doubt a sadist but with such refinement there is beauty in her perfection. Her new pleasure slave, Little One, desperately needs one such as she to complete her. And this is how our love story starts.
However without controversy this book would be a very short. Errors are discovered leading Little One to her need for self-exploration but it’s with pain and hardship so that she may grow and learn.
There is such passion and emotion that I found that I had identified so closely to these two that at times I had tears running down my face and at others felt so much happiness and joy.
I highly recomend this book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the set.
Wow, that was, that was really, really good!
I felt like I was there, with Little One, with the Queen, living in the world with them, feeling what they felt. This wasn’t overly and in your face, but a wave, a mood, a fog, that swirled around you and brought you there with the characters. You were in the world, on their journey, and feeling their feelings while they experienced events. You didn’t feel the events, but the feelings, that is what makes this world, this story, these characters, stand out and leave a stamp on you
This is the story of a slave, and her Queen, and I was right there with them, and loved every second
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this story, this Faerie Tale is unlike any I’ve read before and I totally loved it.
I was very excited to read more about Queen Mab, she fascinates me because of the glimpses we’ve seen of her in previous books, though in those scenes she was not very nice, there has to be more to her right?
Slave otherwise known as Little One, began her life in not a pleasant way, I’m glad Little One got to see living as a slave differently than her previous owner. Being with Queen Mab she finds she likes that she is her new plaything. She loves the pleasure that pain brings her and Queen Mab knows how to deliver it.
Towards the end of this installment, revelations bring about a plot twist I did not see coming. I cannot wait to find out how things play out in the next installment. There will be a total of four, so be prepared!
I traveled through the story with trepidation at first then amazement at how the characters just seemed so real. I also have to remember, this is Fae Realm and things aren’t always what they seem.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Beware of the fae, because they may just steal your soul with a promise. In Slave, Ms. Candace’s dark side runs wild and this is just the beginning. There are still three books to follow. Prepare to be aroused and maybe terrified. This story is intense, passionate and sadistic in all the right ways.
Full disclosure, I read the original unedited serial version on the mobile app platform, Radish. I loved the serial story which is now split into a lovely quartet. I couldn’t figure out how Ms. Blevins could make this story any better. Because the story on Radish is deliciously depraved and filled with sadistic kink. Is this SSC BDSM? Nope. Is this even RACK? Double nope. This is a story based in the fae world with one of the main characters … the DARK QUEEN. Dark fae are notoriously known as sadistic scary monsters that bring nightmares. Mab is the queen of them all. Her dungeon is no “red room” for a slap and a tickle. There are no safewords in this world. This is BDSM fantasy brought to life with vivid imagery and sexual tension.
This story is more than the sexual slavery “little one” suffers at the hands of her various owner. Little one’s story slowly unfolds one lash at a time. As Queen Mab puts little one through her paces, a spark ignites and this tale becomes an erotic love story. This revised version adds nuances that enrich the character interactions. Love and devotion emote from the pages as little one cries out in tortured passion. Fleshing out Queen Mab’s motives and how she feels about her little one makes me fall a bit more in love with this dark queen. I’ve been wanting Queen Mab’s story for so long. To see how she nurtures her slaves and treats her servants, it is impressive. They fear, respect and love her. Quite honestly, after glimpsing into her life, it is hard to say no to Queen Mab. Her deviant desires translate to excruciatingly agonizing yet sweetly tender for her slaves and servants alike. For those who are submissive, Queen Mab is a drug we crave.
Surprisingly, this story is not focused on Queen Mab. She is a dominating figure and yet it is little one who steals the limelight with her graceful suffering and unquestioning obedience. Her submission is impressive. Since this is a world which takes place in a fantasy place, the kink does go to the extreme and little one’s ability to take what happens to her may make many a readers cringe. The plot twist in this story leaves a reader wanting more. Looking forward to the next installment and seeing how an already fantastic story gets even better.
*I received an advanced copy
Oh Candace, what a wonderful tale you’ve woven here. The Dark Queen and her little one. I’ve fallen in love with both women, from their strengths to their vulnerabilities. Your words paint such colorful pictures in my imagination. You made my eyes leak… a tissue warning would of been nice. Made my undies spontaneously combust too! Patiently, impatiently waiting for the next book!!!!
It’s amazing how attached you can become to one little slave.
So the darkly erotic Faerie Queen discovered, and so will you as a reader. Be forewarned: dark, cruel, painful sex is the norm in the Winter Queen’s kingdom. Don’t be surprised at what happens behind these doors, open or closed.
I’ve been on a marathon read of this author’s series, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to depart from the hot bikers & supernatural studmuffins to read a Faerie Tale. Even one with this cool cover. However, as with each of the Candace Blevens books, it serves to further flesh out characters that you’ve already met. This particular story is very reminiscent of the Anne Rice “Sleeping Beauty” series, and while I have no personal interest in a side of extreme pain with my sex, I’m certainly aware that there are those that walk this path. This is a novella size read which completely kept my interest and was easily finished in one evening. Looking forward to the personal journey that this “Little One” will discover in subsequent books.
This was a good start to a new series. Although it’s been awhile since I’ve read The Dragon King, my recollections of the Winter Queen weren’t good. Although still a little scary, I really liked the opportunity to dig a little deeper into her character. I really hope she reappears later in the series. I liked the progression of Little One from some one with virtually no emotional connections to someone cared for by so many. I really liked her character so I’m hoping the foreshadowing of things to come for her works out. The story itself was good, and the author wrapped it up really well. The ending didn’t feel like a cliffhanger, at all, but still left me looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed Slave. Definitely not what I expected.
Little ones story was thought provoking, stretching my imagintion, running the gauntlet of emotions for her.
So looking forward to the rest of the series.
Another excellent book by the very talented ms Blevins. A must read
Slave is an erotic and dark fantasy tale of a young halfling’s life as a slave. Little One is a strong character that easily draws readers into her world with vivid and in depth descriptions that make it easy for readers to imagine and the poignant atmosphere gives readers an understanding of the character and the world in which lives. The steady paced and smooth flowing plot builds anticipation while it heats up the pages and singes readers with its intense and emotional air. The author does a great job of describing the story and characters that readers can practically feel the intensity of this story. The story is so full of suspense and Little One is so enthralling that readers really want to continue her story and find out what happens next.
The story is the first part of a four book serial that must be read in order to get the full enjoyment of the series. Beware that the story is full of erotic scenes some of which may be too much for sensitive readers.
