I love a good murder mystery and this one was no exception. There was a lot of research and it was evident that the author is very familiar with the San Francisco area. I felt like I was there, experiencing what Jack was. The writing was such that I didn’t want to put it down. If you love a well-written mystery, then this one is for you!
Jack Slaughter is an awesome character, one that I certainly could identify with if given the same circumstances. The author provides realistic scenes that captured me in the beginning. This is a page-turning fast-action, well-written story that I absolutely enjoyed! I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

A riveting mystery!
Slaughtered is the first book in the Jack Slaughter Thrillers series and the first I have read by this author. It is a riveting mystery story of a former homicide detective, Jack Slaughter, trying to find who is responsible for his murdered child and his missing wife. This story has a great storyline and is well written and fast-paced.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Great book from this new (to me) author. I love a good mystery book and this one was perfect. It’s full of emotion, suspense, mystery and action. I found that I was drawn into the story from the get-go with the characters being so well written that you can’t help but place yourself in their situation and think what you would do and then compare. It’s very realistic and down to earth. If you enjoy a good exciting book that takes you on a wonderful journey, then grab this book.

This is such an excellent read! It definitely lives up to its genre, with twists and turns, and lots of murderous details to keep you guessing. I found it very well written and exciting, from start to finish.
I loved the main character. He was very real and down to earth. He lives his life the exact way you might expect one to, when they’ve lost everyone who matters to them. He’s on the edge, living dangerously and doing anything to solves crimes, in hopes they lead to the answers, both for his murdered daughter and his missing wife. The trick is trying to keep it all together, as the pieces start to fall into place. I enjoyed reading along as he did all this and getting to know him as a person, as well as the way he works.
The Butcher was created brilliantly. We were always left with just that bit more we wanted or needed to know to be able to suss out who the mastermind might be. I liked that, as I love to be left trying to put the clues together and finding out there was a twist I hadn’t expected. The author did this brilliantly and really made the book interesting throughout.
Overall, this was a great thriller. I am looking forward to the second Jack Slaughter thriller!
I enjoyed this story. There are some gruesome bits, lots of angst, and an interesting method of sleuthing. Jack was a character torn apart by his past. His way of coping was questionable, but he did have good friends to help, and deep down, he was a good person. With all the action and mystery, I kept turning the pages to find out who was responsible along with Jack. I recommend this story.
I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
What a roller-coaster ride. This started with one of those characters I love. Jack Slaughter, an ex-cop, a new P.I., driven almost mad because of the loss of his wife and daughter. Handsome. I’m just somehow sure he is, you know, the rugged-looking kind. And then after about a third of a missing woman case he’s working on, he’s working on 13 murdered women, all cop cases which he is not even supposed to have anything to do with. I kept thinking “but wait, what happened to poor Bonnie Boyd that’s missing? Poor Mr. Boyd, he just got dropped.”
So, as you can see, I was beginning to get really upset about this book inside a book; about an author who had two storylines in her mind. I want to tell you, I was furiously writing a review about that in my mind while lying in bed trying to go to sleep. And then, wait until you hear this…I get up the next morning and start reading, trying to get the book over with and what happens? I can’t put the book down; can’t turn the pages fast enough the story has evolved and gotten really good.
So, what have we got? Great characters, lots of action, some confusing problems with the storyline and a book good enough that you can’t put it down. I’m going to let you draw your own conclusions from that.
I think this is K.A. Lugo’s first book, at least as K.A. Lugo since I’m unfamiliar with this author. She might have upset me for a little while with this book, but on the other hand, I most certainly think she should be working on Book 2. I like that Jack Slaughter guy and you know, good characters…well…people read books because of characters they like.
Excellent book, kept me up reading the story which followed and kept you engaged.
Edge of your seat reading. Nothing is as it seems. Complex characters. Twisting plot. Finished in one sitting.
