My name is Avery Decker, and my story isn’t for the faint of heart. It is about revenge and hatred, misery and violence. I wasn’t always this way even though it was in my blood. I grew up happy and in love with my best friend until she betrayed me and walked away. After that, I fell into the deep, dark world I was meant for. Presleigh Clarke’s actions turned me into the ruthless man I am today. … am today. Too bad for her, I believe people should pay for the things they have done. The more painful and messy, the better. I get off on making people bleed. It feeds my inner demon, and right now, he is starving. She crossed me once, so now she’ll know what it’s like to fear me. But not all stories end the way you think they will … mine certainly didn’t.

WOW JUST WOW!!! A SUPERB READ!!! This book made me fall in love with this very deep, very dark story of two souls that were meant to be together. I have to start by saying that I absolutely love a deep dark read, but this one really took me by surprise and it took me longer to read because it is written so well and goes into so much detail that it feels so real. It deals with some real life situations that are really happening in our world that a lot of people don’t know is really happening all around us. It’s subject matter is a hard one to learn about and a hard pill to swallow. This book may not be for everyone and honestly I had to put it down a few times because of the tough subject matter that this book deals with. Yes, it’s deep, dark, and twisted, BUT I HIGHLY recommend that you push through the darkness because this book has such a beautiful rewarding ending that makes the journey so well worth the read.
Shantel Tessier was a new to me author and I am really ashamed to admit that. I can not believe that I have not read anything by her before now. She does such an AMAZING job pulling the reader into Presleigh/Bunny and Avery’s story and bringing it to life. Their story is just so riveting, so thought provoking, so real to life that it had me thinking about their story when I wasn’t reading it and I am still thinking about these two even after reading the last page.
I am so so glad that I took a chance on this author and this book that I will never hesitate to read any of her work from this day forward.
Happy Reading Everyone!!!
Just from the title and the blurb for Slaughter I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to dive in yet was caught off guard by this book. I was gripped from the first page and kept on the edge of my seat until the very end. Avery and Presleigh both held me transfixed with the passion, angst, and the fiery push and pull they shared. As I learned more about these complex characters their story squeezed my heart and at times left me breathless. Their story is complex, dark, twisted and not for the feint of heart. There were moments I had to put down my Kindle and step away for a bit and then I would snatch it back up again. I found myself questioning how I would have reacted in their shoes and one scene in particular put my morals to the test. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat for this dark, twisted and emotionally riveting ride.
This book comes with trigger warning after trigger warning and was, for me, very hard to read. Some scenes I just had to skip over. I like my books dark and angsty, but this was a bit much for me. The story is well written, and easy to follow. If you like twisted, then this is definitely the book for you.
I was speechless after I read I Dare You, and I’m speechless once again after reading Slaughter. Ms. Tessier sure knows how to write a very dark and very twisted romance! I got sucked in from the very first page, and I didn’t want to put it down. Honestly, there were times I had to put it down and take a break though. There’s some heavy stuff woven within these pages. It is not for the faint of heart. There are disturbing scenes, unforgivable behaviors, acts of unspeakable violence, and triggers throughout. But it was oh soooo good!! The story was well written and I’m already looking forward to the next dark romance by this author.
Presleigh and Avery grew up in a world of darkness, both of their fathers involved in trafficking. Vowing to never be like them, they had plans to escape. Things don’t always go as planned though. Eleven years ago they were torn apart and hadn’t seen each other since, until now. Eleven years is a long time and people change. They soon find out neither is who they used to be. There is danger lurking, twists and turns, and secrets abound. Will they be able to survive it all? I definitely recommend reading this to find out!
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
4.5 Stars
Slaughter is a mind blowing, dark and gritty read. The story flowed well, and was written with such detail that it might pose as triggers to some, there was voilence, secrets, deceit, and even emotions. It kept me completely captivated from beginning to end, I needed to know what was going to happen. I liked the characters Avery and Presleigh. I like how this author seems to only get better with each book she writes and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
Oh my goodness! This author can keep me tied up with her books. I swear I can’t breathe. Bunny and Avery’s story was heartbreaking. They fall in love as kids but are ripped apart. He has to save her. Their angst was palpable. I loved the ending, and I seriously could have read their story forever. I just want more!
Sinfully dark and delicious this book takes you on a ride, of subjects so dark and twisted you will want to read with the light on and a therapist on call. If you like twisted up worlds, with mind games, suspense, action, and heartbreak, this is for you. The story is so sharp it’s like walking on a razors edge. The characters are so real the world in which they live, is right outside the door.
The plot, pacing and all the words, are amazing. This is really some top notch writing. I couldn’t put the book down, and read it in a day. I was kept flipping pages well after midnight. The utter heartbreak, devastation, and redemption was gratifying to read. While you are dragged through the darkness, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I don’t have the words to describe this book well enough, which is why I am not a writer, but a reader and lover of books.
If you like a dark, twisted tale of greed, loathing, hate, and desperation, this is the book for you. This story is told in dual pov.
Damn this was such a dark romance but oh so damn good. I’m beyond speechless at the things that I read about. Presleigh and Avery were childhood sweethearts that grew up with corrupt parents. The things they both saw as kids was extremely disturbing and they both swore they won’t be part of that lifestyle. But when others saw how serious the relationship was getting they intervened, broke them up with lies and it was the beginning of the nightmare that Presleigh started living.
Fast forward 11 years and they see each other again but it’s not the typical happy reunion. Avery was cold hearted and Presleigh was a hot mess. But as the story continues lots of pieces of the puzzle start falling into place and you start seeing the reality of the hell she lived and is still living and exactly what Avery has been up to. But Presleigh wasn’t a coward; for someone that went thru so much abuse mentally and physically she was a tough cookie.
This story isn’t over and it wasn’t easy for these two to get back to where they were. And the epilogue shows that there is more of these two and that everything isn’t rosey and sunshine.
BRUTAL Honest! Slaughter wasnt an easy book.. You need to prepare your mind, emotion and reaction with every chapter.. Avery and Presleigh aka Bunny had a very toxic emotional relationship. I had to hold my stomach not to turn.. This couple really put me to the test and burned every ways you go..
Slaughter was a dark romance.. A love which laced with thorn, poison, anger and hate. Crazy good!
This is a very dark and twisted tale of love, betrayal, lies, and deceit. Slaughter will jerk your emotional strings while shredding your heart.
Presleigh is a woman who has lived in her own personal hell for way too long. I was surprised at the strength and will she had once it looked as though she would never be free again.
Avery is a powerful man that I both loved and hated. He is ruthless and gets what he wants.
I think Shantel definitely has a talent with darker stories. Slaughter was amazing!
I’ve been a fan of Shantel’s books right from reading her first book Undescribable, this one however is a very different style for her, it’s much darker. But let me tell you, she knocked it out the park, coz this book kicks ass!
This is a dark, twisted, even depraved story that will grip you right from the Prologue, that starts us on Avery & Presleigh’s journey from when they were kids together and in love, both being raised in affluent lifestyles but by sadistic monsters, they hate to call ‘father’.
Fast forward 13 years, we find Avery and Presleigh equally hate each other and haven’t seen each other in all that time, but Avery feels compelled to ‘save’ her from a fate worse than death!
Avery has become a sadistic killer with no morals, everything he swore never would be and Presleigh has become an alcoholic, who spreads her legs for any man, the polar opposite to how we left her at the prologue. So what happened to change their lives and directions so drastically?
Written as a dual POV, this book takes us on their journey from beginning to the present day, with detailed flashbacks to fill in the blanks, both past and current times.
Some may say that, Avery is one of those characters that you love to hate, but for me it was more hate to love, as I can see how tortured he really is. Presleigh is just lost and the reasons will become clear as you read.
Don’t be fooled though, there are a lot of twists and turns on this journey and plenty of shocking revelations!
It’s a book you genuinely can’t put down, as you need to know what was going to happen next and how it was going to end. It is a unique read, that I thoroughly enjoyed, I highly recommend this!
Another 5* read Shantel, I can NOT wait for the next one!
I looked forward to reading this book since the moment I read the blurb, but unfortunately I have to say that I didn’t liked it.At all.
It started pretty good for me,I was sucked into the story and so eager to find out what happend between Avery and Presleigh that drew them apart. But,at one point I released that I’m already like 30% into the book and nothing significant really happend. There was no moving forward,i felt like I was standing in place, reading the same thing. And this lasted up until 70% of the book when I finally got some answers. So,as far as the plot goes, this book could have been shorter.
But the real reason why I gave this book one star is because I’m very disgusted with the level of abuse that was directed toward Presleigh. She was abused in every chapter, literary.I was honestly sick with the level of violence towards her.She was abused both, sexually and mentally. It was sickening. And in most of those scenes it was Avery who was abusing her(though she was abused by a lot of other people too).Add to that the fact she was “slut shamed”(by Aver of course)for sleeping with other men when he was doing the very same thing.Like,he has right to say something???
I will never be able to accept abusing men as hero in a book. They are abusers and not heroes.
By the end of the book Avery did saw his mistakes when he released what really went wrong in his life, but as far as I’m concerned he is still abuser, and the things he did to Presleigh can’t be forgiven. He doesn’t deserve her forgiveness. Why??Because he had abused her. It’s simple.
So I really can’t give this book more than one star and I will say why again.
Mental or sexual abuse is not romance and I will not put it in that category.
I’m seriously still sitting thinking how I’m even gonna formulate my words for this review! Slaughter is twisted, dark and depraved! Absolutely the best book I’ve read by Tessier!! I was completely and utterly drawn in from the very first chapter. The world in which Bunny and Avery live is just a darkest nightmare come true! Fantastic book!!!
If you’re looking for a dark, twisted book I’m over here waving my hands and pointing my finger at this book! I was sucked in from the first page and devoured it until I was done.
Avery comes across as a man who knows who he is and makes no apologies for it. You may not like how he is in some parts of the book but remember it’s a book. He’s a man with a plan and nothing is going to stand in his way of making sure that his Bunny is safe. Safe from everyone but him that is.
Presleigh (Bunny) has been through more than Avery knows. She’s living her life the way she wants and says screw you to whoever doesn’t like it. She’s had her heartbroken, her body beaten and she comes back stronger than before. She’s a survivor.
When the secrets of the past are revealed are they going to be stronger together or is one just the means to an end for one of them?
Holy crap I can’t wait for the next book!!
4.5 Stars. Slaughter is a dark romance that grips you right from the first page. It is a unique, entertaining storyline with twists, turns, shocking revelations, and suspense. The characters are interesting and well developed and the book moves at a good pace – keeping you entertained until the very and inducing a book hangover.
Told from a DOV, you meet Avery and Presleigh who started off as young sweethearts and later became enemies. If you like anti-heroes, the author gives you the ultimate dark, powerful, alpha male, Avery. He is one of those characters that I hate to love in that he has a bit of a sick mind, but you still can’t help but love him. I didn’t fall in love with Presleigh right away, but I really came to love her strength, resilience, and determination to survive. Many times, my heart broke for her. There are occasional very brief flashbacks interspersed throughout the novel. I really like how she integrates them into the book, slowly revealing their intense love from when they were younger to what tore them apart.
*Warning for potential triggers: There is graphic violence, a rape scene (not by Avery), and some BDSM elements.* If you enjoyed this author’s previous book, I Dare You, and/or you like the authors such as Bebe Reid or Penelope Douglas, then you will love Slaughter. Slaughter has no cliffhanger and a HEA. I am impatiently looking forward the next book in this duet. I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review.
This book is CRAZY! I love dark romances and this one was great! It was certainly a story I wasn’t expecting but as everything was unraveling I was addicted! I loved all the twist and turn and surprises scattered throughout the story. The story does travel back and forth from the present to the past but the author did a good job on making it clear where you were so the reader wouldn’t get confused. At the end of the story the author gave us a second epilogue. I felt this wasn’t needed and I would have actually preferred if it wasn’t there. But overall, I really enjoyed this book! The story was interesting and the writing was great. It’s a great dark romance!
What a story!!!!! Five stars!!!
This book is incredibly emotional and unpredictable from the very first page.
It’s a deep dark, kinda mafia story, about love and hate mixed together.
I was reading it with eyes wide open and trembling heart.
Presleigh and Avery used to be deeply in love with each other, but something happened at their teenage years and separated them forever. They destroyed each other feelings and just hatred remain.
Eleven years later, twisted revenge put them on the same path again, but they’re not the same people anymore.
Avery, from a loving and caring guy, became ruthless, dominant and possessive man, who took what he wanted and never backs down. Oh how I loved to hate him for what he put Presleigh through.
Presleigh has changed too. All those years she was drowning her sadness in sex and alkohol. Sweet girl became beautiful but numb woman.
One day he become her possessor and she was his prisoner.
They were enemies with lust and desire.
But nothing seems to look as it is.
I was sucked into that story and holding my breath everytime main charakters were together. Their connection make my skin crawl and hair stands on end.
This story shocked me and even I felt like it was all wrong, I like the plot, action and pace. You can’t get bored with this book.
I need to tell you, that there are many sex scene and brutality in the story, so be aware, if you have a faint heart.
Author perfectly written this book from two perspectives. I was glad that I can find out what they both thought and felt. There are so many secrets and unknowns in the story, so once you start to read, can’t stop until you find out what happened in the past and what will happen in the future between those two.
This story perfectly shows how thin is the line between love and hate.
An ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review.
Holy frigging crap!! I absolutely loved this book! I don’t even know what to say!! It was dark, and so damn twisted!! I was hooked from the first page!!
Slaughter is a dark and twisted read about Avery and Presleigh aka Bunny. They both had alot of issues and so much happened to Bunny. I loved her. Avery, I didn’t really like at first but I did end up loving him. Despite everything that went on, I think Avery and his Bunny had an intense and explosive connection. I loved this. Looking forward to reading Tristan and Chloe’s book.
Holy hell what a sinfully good, twisted ride! Shantel will do a number on you with this dark romance! A story about love, lust, revenge and the dark underworld. This book was a crazy ride with strong, well written characters as well as great supporting characters. Blood, sex, and suspense will keep you glued to your seat! My head is still spinning from this one! 5+++ dark & twisted stars!!!!
