From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Laurelin Paige comes a new story in her Slay series… him.
He sees right through her carefully constructed facade.
And he’s going to slash it all to pieces.
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.

I love when an author gives us more of a character we were intrigued by in a previous book. I wanted to know what happened to Camilla Fasbender. We had been given an insight into her life which didn’t paint a particularly pretty picture. She had suffered so much and the question was would she get her happy ever after? Well Laurelin Paige doesn’t disappoint with this novella that takes us on a whirlwind journey as Camilla reunites with Hendrix Reid. After spending one night together seven months ago Hendrix signs up for Camilla’s photography class. Was it fate or could Hendrix just not forget Camilla? Although it’s a novella it’s not light on emotion or romance and as always is beautifully written.
Slash by Laurelin Paige is book 4.5 in the Slay Series. This is the story of Camilla (Fasbender) and Hendrix. I have read the previous books which added to my enjoyment of this one along with the wanting of Camilla story, but I do feel this can be a standalone book if you wish to do so. Camilla hasn’t had a easy childhood and now as an adult she is used to putting on a front to have people think that all is well but really she has scars that she can’t seem to move past. Then Hendrix comes into her life and he isn’t swayed by the front she puts up. Enjoyed their story and I do recommend this author’s writing.
After reading the Slay series I was fascinated and intrigued with Camilla Fasbender. Slash gives us a little more insight to the mystery that is Camilla.
Her story from childhood to now is tragic and at times gruesome, the scars both physical and emotional control her life. A sensual women, she hides in the darkness of night and the full covering of her body in the clothes she wears so as not to let in any physical touch to her body.
Hendrix Reid was a one stand months ago in the cover of darkness. Now he is back as a photography student in her class and he is determined to help her see just how beautiful she and her scars are.
Laurelin Paige has once again shown her writing expertise and given us a wonderful novella in the Slay series.
I haven’t read the Slay Quartet but as you know with 1,001 Dark Nights each novella gives readers a glimpse into the world if they haven’t experienced it before or it’s an added bonus for those that have, I am so thankful that we are able to get these novellas because they definitely add to my TBR pile.
Camilla Fasbender’s story is not one that is easily read, especially for someone that has been abused. I saw the signs immediately and knew with this being a novella the author wouldn’t be able to delve deeply into her past but readers are give enough of a glimpse to know the horrors she experienced. My heart broke for her.
Hendrix and Camilla spent one memorable night together in Paris, and now he has enrolled in her photography class. Although Camilla has thought of him often she never expected to see him again, but Hendrix wanted more of the passionate woman he spent time with so he went after her.
The chemistry was amazing but beyond that Laurelin Paige gives us a story of hope. Hope that there is beauty after the ugly.
If you are looking for a second chance romance, single-mom romance, or a HOT quick read I would recommend this book to you.
Happy Reading!!!
We met Camilla Fastbender in the Slay series. Her’s is not an easy story. It’s full of pain and suffering. One brightside from the pain is her son Freddie. Finally though, she is finding her happiness, thanks to fellow photographer Hendrix Reid.
“I want to kiss every place on your body you’ve been hurt. I want to kiss those places so many times that you remember them for that instead of anything before.”
I was in tears as she told him of her pain and her scars. Scars he found beautiful. If there is anyone deserving of a HEA, it’s Camilla! Mad props to Laurelin Paige for writing this story and for doing it the justice it deserves.
I have been intrigued with Camilla Fasbender since we met her brother, Edward. Camilla has had a hard life and suffered at the hands of those who should have protected her. The only man who she counts on is the one who came to her rescue, her brother. So, she learned to protect herself and her son by not letting anyone in other than her brother. She finds solace in raising her son and her career and occasionally, men who do not expect anything from her. But when Hendrix is treated to one night with her, he tries to stay away but realizes he wants to be the shoulder she needs to lean on.
This novella is wonderfully written. The story is heartbreaking and heartwarming. Treat yourself to the world of this author and I guarantee you will want more.
OMIGOSH! I am so in love! Hendrix and Camilla’s story was everything I didn’t know I needed! WOW!! Perfect in every way! FIVE STARS!
This woman!! Laurelin has the ability to render me speechless just about every time I pick up one of her books. She is amazing and ridiculously talented. The worlds that she creates are fascinating, dramatic, passionate, emotional, full of hope and heart even when they’re dark and twitchy and absolutely mesmerizing!
Camilla Fasbender has a scared past. Her childhood did not hold any rainbows and gumdrops. She’s a single mom who so far in life has had very little sunshine. If you’re new to this world, I wouldn’t go as far as saying the previous books need to be read first, but I would say you get a better picture into Camilla’s past if you read her brother’s journey first.
For me, this felt and read more like a Camilla growth journey than a romance journey of two people. Yes, it’s a romance, but it is much more than that. The story touched me deep in my soul. Camilla’s path was expertly written and deeply emotional. The story as a whole is intense and Laurelin does an incredible job of pulling you in and having you feel every moment. I am in constant awe of her!
MY HEAVENS… this author kills it every time! Ms Paige is such a awesome writer I have to reread a page just to process the words she writes… SO AWESOME! This story is nothing but heart wrenching… sole searching words that you can’t describe unless you read it! PLEASE don’t ever stop writing Ms Paige!
I loved Camilla’s story it’s deep, emotional and we get to see deeper into her life! This short novela is everything but short it’s filled with sentiment, love and sexy scenes! I knew I loved laurelin pages’s book from the first trilogy I read now I want to get all caught up! Thank you for my advance readers copy!
Slash is the 4.5th book in the Slay Quartet written by author Laurelin Paige. This standalone novella can be read as either an introduction story for those that haven’t read the series or a bonus story for those that have. The Slay Quartet is an amazing story of Edward Fasbender and Celia Werner, and I just loved them so much. So, when I saw Slash, the story of Edward’s sister Camilla Fasbender, I got so excited!
Camilla is a photographer, and she signed up to teach an upper-level class for those with photography experience. She never expected that Hendrix Reid, a well-known wildlife photographer, would take her class. He also happens to be the man that Camilla had a steamy night with about seven months ago.
Hendrix has been looking for Camilla ever since she snuck out. Now that he found her again, Hendrix’s determined to get to know her better. Although Camilla has had a difficult past, and she doesn’t know how to take his advances. She honestly feels most comfortable behind the camera and away from the attention.
Slash is such a fabulous story, and it’s a great addition in the Slay series!

I’m so glad Laurelin gave us this wonderful glimpse into Edward’s sister, Camilla. It had just enough of her past to curb my curiosity and I love this character now. Like Edward, I was not a fan of hers at first but Laurelin has a way of making you fall for the villains. Man or woman, you’ll love them all! Bonus points for a great hero too. You need to read all the books in these series universe, not because it’s particularly necessary, but because each one is epic in their own way. Read them all!
I loved getting Camilla’s story! This book quickly sucked me in and I loved the ebb and flow between Camilla and Hendrix. They have a past. And life hasn’t always been fair to Camilla. She doesn’t think she deserves a future. But Hendrix shows up to give her something else. The chemistry between this couple was hot, a nice slow burn. I liked how he didn’t need her class, but he wanted it; wanted her. She was worthy and despite everything, there was someone for her. I was completely here for this story and I didn’t want it to end!
Slash is a spin-off Novella of Laurelin Paige’s Slay Quartet and all I can say is wow. Camilla Fasbender, the sister of media mogul Edward Fasbenderm hasn’t had the easiest of lives. Slash is a story of self preservation and healing.
Camilla’s past has kept her from allowing herself to be happy. Relationships are a no go for her. Throughout the story she continues to grow and realize she deserves to be happy.
Hendrix Reid has never forgotten his one night stand. Years pass and their paths cross again. His character has developed a true sense of patience due to the nature of his job. This proves to be no exception when it comes to Camilla. As she struggles emotionally and mentally with her past, Hendrix is caring and sees her for the person she is, not the person of her past.
The growth of Camilla’s character shows that we can overcome the things in our past that haunt us. This in conjunction with Hendrix’s loving and patient personality make for a wonderful story of perseverance and love.
With an amazing story and the layers of complexity of the characters, Laurelin Paige has written a story that is an emotional roller coaster. I highly recommend Slash especially if you have read the Slay Quartet. It is not necessary to read the Slay to enjoy Slash. Another 5 Star Must Read from Laurelin Paige. I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were not influenced by the author or her promotional team.
If you have read Slay Quartet, Slash by Laurelin Paige is must read for you! This is the story of Camilla, Edward Fasbender’s sister.
Camila had most difficult life. Since she became orphan. Even today when she has established herself as a photographer and her billionaire brother has helped her to settle down, scars of her past haunt her. She is scared of loving again. But she has nowhere to hide when Hendrix Reid, another esteemed photographer and partner of the most memorable one night stand appears in her class. He is relentless and patient. And he wants her.
I have read a lot about Camilla’s character in the quartet. And yet the depth and layers of her character surprised me. She can be many things. Angry. Bitter. Vulnerable. But she is also a survivor with unlimited strength and resilience. Hendrix made her feel beautiful, safe and cherished again. He is a great man. Who didn’t hurry or push or tried to pressure her when she retreated into her cocoon. He was just there to support her and make her feel wanted. They have a beautiful chemistry. And that last chapter gave me goosebumps.
Slash by Laurelin Paige was a riveting and inspiring tale of love and second chance. It was sinful, intense and heartachingly brilliant.
Received ARC for honest review
I have read every one of Laurelin Paige’s books. I LOVE the long stories that she creates. I also LOVE these novellas. I read this and instantly wanted Camilla to win. Enter Hendrix. Could he have been anymore perfect? This was a quick read, I felt like it wasn’t rushed. Camilla had a really awful past that made her hide herself. Literally and figuratively. Hendrix never forgot about her after a one night stand. He was so patient and loving. I hope we can get a full novel about this couple.
Passion and deep love fuse in this novella in epic ways.
I knew beforehand that tragedy would touch this romance because Camilla, the main character, had a profound impact in me when I read the Slay series.
Even as a stranger, this damaged and resilient survivor can still resonate with the reader on many levels. A professional photographer, a mother, a fighter who carries wounds below skin and above. This is why the story means so much on its own, yet also grows with a background.
The introspective narrative focuses on the inner workings of Camilla as she reflects on her darkened past, the lights in her present, and the man who awakens and stirs and tempts her beyond the walls around her. It happens during a photography course she imparts and it is beautifully rendered as the author extrapolates several trade techniques to apply them to her emotional journey. The effect is riveting.
Both characters share a talent for the art of photography and it is as much a bonding experience as their desire and compatibility. Bittersweet, arduous, the romance blossoms in his wooing of her heart, and it finally explodes in pleasures of the flesh.
Very touching, raw as well, and gorgeously perceptive and sensitive.
Camilla is a broken soul, damaged by her marriage, barely hanging on for the sake of her son. Then a one night stand shows up in the photography class she’s teaching, and he’s determined to be in her life, even if she purports not to want him. It seems he’s determined, wants to love her, wants to help heal her. Will Camilla allow him to?
For a novella, Slash (a very appropriate title!) packed one hell of an emotional, heartwrenching punch. Camilla in particular is a fascinating character. She made a significant impact on me, with all her pain, with her fragile spirit. Hendrix was true and warm, and persistent and determined, the perfect man for her damaged soul.
Oh I love the Slay series so much! And adding Slash to it just makes me so happy!
Even though Camilla & Hendrix’s story is a novella, I am amazed of how much depth it had. Camilla has been through a lot and her journey wasn’t easy. I’m glad that she was able to lean on Hendrix. Camilla & Hendrix were imperfectly perfect for each other.
Laurelin Paige is such a talented writer & it is so easy to get consumed by her words and captivated by her characters. I look forward to more by her.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Wow! What can I say! Laurelin Paige knows how to bring out the character’s feelings and shaping each character in all her stories. SLASH is a short novella that is sad, complicated, and an emotional rollercoaster as we ride every high and hit the withdrawal symptoms that the character encounters. This book was also heart-wrenching in its emotional angst, highs and lows of the two main characters’ struggles as they help each other try to get what they each need. Camilla Fasbender is the younger sister of Edward, who I described as a formidable number 1 grade alpha-hole—and Camilla was featured in Edward and Celia’s story. Camilla is a single mother/career woman who is a widower. She has been tormented with the pain she endured, the abuse she received, and secrets that she has carried for a long time. Now, that Camilla’s story is told and what she went through, I felt everything Camilla was going through down in my soul. I was captivated from start to finish about her story. While teaching portrait photography, Camilla recognized the name and voice of the person attending her class—none other than Hendrix Reid—her Hendrix, her one-night stand. A one-night stand is supposed to be a one-night, right! Not in her classroom! What happens next? Can Camilla and Hendrix handle the heat…or will Camilla’s dark secrets drive them apart forever? Laurelin Paige has a brilliant way of writing, and she delivered a powerful, addictive, and intriguing story. I would recommend this book!
