From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Laurelin Paige comes a new story in her Slay series… him.
He sees right through her carefully constructed facade.
And he’s going to slash it all to pieces.
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.

Photos tells a story but their narrative can be manipulated…it can be staged…its flaws can be removed…and if you’re an amazing photographer, like Camilla Fasbender, you control what you’re exposing in those photographs. And, it’s that need to craft her own life story, only offering the details she chooses to provide, never allowing anyone to see behind the lens.
Until Hendrix Reid. He’s a game changer is a number of ways and the only person who sees through her carefully constructed facade, slashing through her lies and her secrets and refusing to allow her the space to push him away or even remove him entirely, which will prove exactly what he wants to be for her if she’ll only see beyond all that she’s been through and focus on their future not her past.
Since I met Camilla, Edward’s sister, in the Slay Quartet, I had more than enough of her backstory to understand why she led the life she did and why she kept everyone at arm’s length. What I wanted more of, which is difficult in a novella, is the ins and outs of who Hendrix Reid was/is and just how well these two mesh together in what they offer one another. But I’ll just believe, like all of Laurelin Paige’s couples, that Camilla and Hendrix get everything they want and need in their life together.
4 Poison Apples
This was a powerful, evocative, emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey that grabs you and doesn’t let go.
You’re drawn in my Camilla and her she sees the world, but it’s through her interactions with Hendrix that the rest of the picture comes into focus.
This story deals with some difficult topics but is handled beautifully and with such care.
Camilla is a woman of strength, and the support one can get from loved ones is wonderfully represented in this story!
I so wanted Camilla Fasbender’s story, this was a fantastic read for me, I love the series so much, but she always intrigued me and then I got Hendrix and I absolutely loved him. Their attraction is nuclear, yet her past has her pulling back. This story is emotional, if you read Slay series you know why. Fantastic read 5 stars!
One of the best books I have read. For me it was perfect!!
This might be a novella but Laurelin Paige packs more storytelling into these pages than you could hope for. Beautiful characterisation, poignant dialogue and a chemistry that’s like a slow rumble.
I was hooked from the very first word until the end. My heart leapt, my stomach dropped and I FELT Camilla & Hendrix’s connection. It’s a seemingly simple second chance romance that’s really so much more. My only regret is that I don’t get another 20 chapters of these two.
4.5 stars
This is one slow building introspection into the life of Camilla, Edward’s sister that readers met in the Slay Series. She has always been there for her brother and it is about time that her story was finally told. Camilla has never been one to want to be in front of the camera and it is easy to understand why. However, when Hendrix comes back into her life, she is forced to come out of her comfort zone. Written as a gripping tale to document Camilla’s journey, Ms. Paige has deftly brought to light the hardships Camilla endured and her courageousness to articulate her healing. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.
Slash (Slay Quartet #4.5) – by Laurelin Paige
It took two days to process how broken Camilla Fasbender really was. How she could appear so very normal and yet be so broken inside. How Edward probably still had no idea how high and thick her walls really were.
Thank goodness there was Freddy to keep her focused, and of course her photography which now and again opened the almost invisible doors in those walls.
Mostly, let’s say thank you to Hendrix. Who after one conversation, which lead to one night in Paris allowed him to see Camilla for who she really was but would rarely allow herself to be.
Hendrix, the man who could prove to her how beautiful she really was and by showing her that beauty allowed the walls to crumble and the beautiful person inside see reality.
This story touched me deeply, in fact still holds me in it’s thrall…. but then that’s what tends to happen when one reads Laurelin Paige. She touches you and your walls.
So many emotions and feeling that will hurt and mend your very soul as we get a detailed look at Camila’s world as she lives it and I had no idea her inner self doubt and tortured life was not easy.
Hendrix is everything as he doesn’t give up and tries his hardest to mend her and show she is worth it so swoon-worthy he will make you melt into a big puddle.
4 Stars!
Camilla Fasbender is a single mom and career woman living in London with a painful past. She’s a talented photographer who prefers to exist in the background. She’s created a safe place where she doesn’t venture far out of her comfort zone, but life sometimes gets lonely. Then a man shows up in her life that makes her feel too much. He truly see’s her and see’s past her carefully crafted facade.
Hendrix Reid is a man of action, and he relentlessly pursues her. It’s like he’s turned a light on in her life. She can pretend she doesn’t want him, but that would be a lie. He makes her feel vulnerable, and it scares her. He’s too charming, too handsome, and a distraction she doesn’t need, but she can’t deny their crazy attraction. She finds him fascinating and exciting, but she always runs from commitment and the unknown. He offering her more, and wants a chance, but does he want more than she’s willing to give? Will Hendrix be the man to finally make her believe in possibilities and happy endings?
Slash is an all new 1001 Dark Nights standalone novella by Laurelin Paige that’s part of the author’s Slay series, and is about Edward’s sister Camilla. I’ve been intrigued with Camilla from the start, and was happy to get answers about her mysterious past. This is a fantastic, emotional story about intense connections, patience, passion, survival, and beautiful love.
I really enjoyed getting to know Camilla in Slash. Not to mention a sexy photographer that we get to adore! Hendrix made it fun the way that he was chasing after Camilla. The modern day of cat and mouse. But what I loved the most was the care and determination that Camilla will finally fall.
This Novella gave me new hope for the characters and the love that our Slay world has expanded with these two. I love how Edward is Mr. Tough guy but still shows his soft spot for his sister. This is a wonderful nook to have on you TBR!
Different and Engaging! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Camilla Fasbender’s story is told slightly differently that most Laurelin Paige books…. and I devoured it! It’s romantic and beautiful. Camilla’s story is one of healing and finding happiness all with the woman calling the shots.
5 Engaging Stars
There’s just something about this read that I feel like I’m missing. I loved Camilla as I did in the Slay series and Hendrix is absolutely yummy. This has heartbreak and we learn Camilla’s fears which in itself will gut you. I did enjoy it, I think maybe the whole photography thing was a little boring to me but I did enjoy the characters. Read it for yourself.

It was great to finally get more information about Camilla. She had a couple of rough periods in her life…. when she was with a foster family, and when she was married. But the marriage scarred her in more than one way. It was interesting to hear her inner voice – her self doubt and glossing over uncomfortable thoughts at times. It made her more real to me than anyone I have read about in a while.
And Hendrix – pursuing what he wants, and treating her how she needs to be in order to see herself better. And it is wonderful that they share a passion for photography, as well as each other.
I genuinely love this story – this is one of the best examples of Laurelin’s writing. And it is a great introduction to the Slay series, if you haven’t read it.
An intense and emotional novella. I was pulled into this emotional ride that has you feeling deeply. It will take you through Camilla’s journey as it unravels. This story will grip your heart from the beginning.
The way I know an author is amazing is when she can make me love a character I did not care for before. We meet Camila in the Slay series, and I was not the biggest fan. But Slash changes that!!! I came to love and enjoy Camila. Her story is definitely not for the faint of heart. She has some things she has had to overcome. Hendrix is soooo perfect, and so perfect for Camila. He is the epitome of swoonworthy for me. I love this story. Wish is waa longer cause I needed more!!! Another fantastic Laurelin Paige book!!!
Loved this deeper look into Camilla’s life! So much hurt in her life that I didn’t expect and it really saddened me. This quick book was packed filled with intense emotions and a whirlwind love story! Definitely would love to read more about them!!
The writing of this book is very sensual and you feel the same feelings Camilla is feeling. Anticipation, confusion, happiness, self-loathing… I notice the things she does and can picture them in my mind bathed in lighting and shadows. This one is meant to be savored slowly.
Whether you have traveled into the striking world of Slay, or if this is your first introduction to the series, this is one book that will intrigue all readers alike.
Paige has expertly written this novella and Camilla’s tale of abuse in a beautiful way; leaving the character room for humility, showing her inner struggles for self-acceptance in a remarkably relatable way.
As the character I had championed for during the entirety of the Slay Series, I couldn’t have been more excited to see her get her happily ever after!
As Always, Happy Reading!

4.5-stars!
Slash by Laurelin Paige is a 1001 Dark Nights novella set in the Slay Quartet world. Readers will not have to read the quartet to read the novella. This story can be seen as an extra treat for long-time readers of the author or an introduction for newbies. Slash is a story of a woman’s journey and scars. It was emotional and candid. Camilla Fassbender is a woman with a secret hidden under layers polish and Hendrix may just be what she needs.

Happy reading!
If you have read the slay series you will have already met Camilla and know of her past. There are still
many details we are not aware of and this novella gives us more of an insight, not only of the physical damage, but also what mental scars have been left.
Camilla is walking a tightrope of emotions and sanity. Freddie is the only thing that keeps her grounded.
When Hendrix returns to her life when she least expects it, she can do only one thing, put those defences up.
She is so torn with her feelings, this is a journey she never expected to face.
This is an emotional journey to take with Camilla, she’s has so much to overcome if she ever will.
Hendrix is fantastic and patient, but has no idea the pain he’s about to face.
Laurelin as per usual is brilliant in brining us Camilla’s story and the journey she takes with Hendrix.
More perfection! The author proves again that stories about secondary characters deserve all the stars!
Camilla is Ed Fasbender’s sister introduced to us in the Slay series. The good news is that this book can be read as a standalone. Then again the Slay series is such a fine series and it gives us insight into Camilla’s painful past.
But this is Camilla’s story. Flawlessly told from her point of view I got front and center seat into a complex successful and complicated woman. She’s teaching a photography seminar and behind the camera lens (pun intended) she offers us a different side of her, her passions, her desires.
Her painful past is a reminder that guides her in her story with Hendrix. Hendrix …Even his name is swoonworthy.
How does Hendrix fit the story?
How they met, how their second chance meeting evolved and developed I’m…Not…Saying!!
I was swept into this story and I loved every word.
It was over quickly and I’d love more Camilla and Hendrix. That’s how captivating and intriguing their story was!!
