From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Laurelin Paige comes a new story in her Slay series… him.
He sees right through her carefully constructed facade.
And he’s going to slash it all to pieces.
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.

“You didn’t honestly think I might ghost you, did you?”
“It crossed my mind.”
“Please. I said I’d be here and so I am. I’m not scared of you.”
“Yes, you are.”
What a great novella addition to the Slay series! We’ve known Camilla through the other stories, but I’m so glad we get to see this side of her and see her get her happily ever after!!
I loved the push and pull between these two. Camilla, trying her best to keep Hendrix at arms length to avoid, what she is sure will be a painful ending. Hendrix, patiently waiting for Camilla to realize that they belong together.
Oh, and there’s nothing like a good, hot, teacher’s desk scene!!
Definitely grab this one!!
I love this book. It was good to read about Camilla. I got a glimpse of her in the slay series but I wanted to know her story. So glad I was able too. She is a strong woman. She has went through a lot and never shows it. She is truthful to her son. She is protective of her heart and her son. Hendrix is a patient man. He is kind and sexy and so good with her son. I love these two together. Hendrix loves her no matter the hurt, the past, and the scars on her. Camilla is brave to show him everything and tell him everything and he still stayed and didn’t run. I felt bad for Camilla and everything she endured but her not letting that bring her down was the best part. That is brave and beautiful. I love the ending. I highly recommend reading this book. Definitely didn’t disappoint. Another great read Laurelin Paige.
Camilla and Hendrix spent an amazing one night together 7 months ago, now he’s shown up at her adult portrait photography class. Why is her here? What does he want?
Camilla has secrets, Secrets she will never reveal to anyone. We know Camilla has had a traumatic past, one that has left her a shell of herself and she struggles daily just to keep things on the outside seeming normal.
Hendrix can see her, he knows she struggles, He knows she has secrets, yet he is determined to work his way into his heart. This man !!! Oh goodness every woman needs a man like this!! He had my heart in mush from the word go.
Even though this is a novella, it packs a heck of an emotional journey into the pages. We start with a woman, struggling to find herself, a man determined to get the woman he wants, and a journey that brings us through delicate subjects approached in such an emotionally charged way as only this author does!!
It was a joy to see this woman burst from her cocoon into the most beautiful butterfly!!! To see her find love for herself, confidence, trust and her heart open with so much beauty and love to give! Hendrix Reid is definitely a man with the right touch, words and actions for Camilla to find her own strength to find her way back to the amazing woman her past had stolen from her!! LOVE LOVE LOVED IT !!
Camilla Fasbender had always been somewhat of a mystery to me, and even though I knew about her background from her brother Edward ( from the “Slay” series), I had no idea what she was like as a person — what made her laugh, what her dreams were, or how she saw her future. She was a devoted mother and sister and her brother was always there for her and would do anything to protect her. We finally see Camilla as the woman she wanted to be in Laurelin Paige’s new book, “Slash.”
Camilla is a talented photographer who depicts her subjects with expertise and creativity. She loves being behind the camera so she can capture all the beauty the world has to offer. Her son is her life, but falling in love and finding her soulmate has eluded her so far. That is, until she met Hendrix Reid, a fellow photographer. They shared a romantic and magical evening that made Camilla feel desirable, cherished and worthy of being in love. It may have only been one night, but she holds the memories of their time together deep in her heart.
Was it fate or karma that brought Hendrix back into her life? He was just as handsome, confident, and alluring as she remembered. Camilla was flustered and unsure how she felt about seeing him again. She had never been pursued before and to have someone want you that much was exhilarating and made her feel giddy inside. Can Camilla find the courage to open up to Hendrix and welcome him into her life? Or will her past keep her a prisoner, leaving her destined to be alone?
Seriously, Laurelin! How do you do it? Slash is incredible! I’m not sure how you can pack so many feels in so few pages. I loved Camilla’s story! Laurelin Paige has a way with words that pulls you in and holds you until the very last page. You feel everything that the characters are feeling.
Camilla is a woman who has been through the flames of hell and somehow came out on the other side. The problem is, she is not living. She doesn’t let people get too close, because her trust has been demolished. Camilla does everything in her power to keep her true self hidden, so when a man from her past who got a little too close shows back up in her life, her world is thrown off its axis.
Hendrix…sigh! This man is all the things. He is so patient and treats Camilla with so much reverence! He truly sees Camilla on a deeper level, but she constantly pushed him away. However, the pull between these two is just too strong. When Camilla finally gives in and lets Hendrix all the way in, it was such a beautiful moment. I had to set my kindle down and take a deep breath.
It is shocking to me how Laurelin Paige could write such an incredible story in this novella!
One night in Paris was all Camilla and Hendrix were supposed to share. But this all comes crashing down when his name is part of her class roster. Why does the famed photographer need to take her portraits class – to finally see her again. Can the sparks that were felt before still be there? Or will the secrets from her past not allow Camilla to open up her heart or her life? You will devour this book in one sitting. Each page draws the reader in and they are taken on an emotional ride filled with angst and honesty. A wonderful addition to the series.
Slashed my heart but it mended! 3.5 stars round to 4
Camilla was “fond of hiding” which made me sad especially because I know her history from reading the Slay series. At first, she was “broken, fragile and unsure,” but Hendrix slashed through her walls to unleash different and hidden parts of herself. She had so much baggage which slashed my heart, but I became frustrated that she wouldn’t (or couldn’t) let some of it go after years of therapy. Maybe that will seem mean after you have read the novella, but it was how I felt. When Camilla and Hendrix met, they were enamored with each other. His patience with her and for her was remarkable, and he made me swoon. Hendrix was just an all round good guy which is what she deserved, but we don’t learn too much about him. His love and patience for Camilla mended my slashed heart. She took the first steps into being brave, into feeling and believing that she’s beautiful inside and out, but I wanted her progress when all we received was a snapshot of the progress. I wanted more, but I know that’s not possible since this is a novella. I enjoyed this novella and recommend it if you have read the Slay series (you can read this even if you have not read the Slay series), and if you haven’t read that series I encourage you to try it.
*I received an advanced copy of this ebook for my honest review.*
Finally we get to see into Camilla’s past and why she is the way she is today. She was abused from a young age and then into her marriage. She tried hiding her body and scars from the world. Scars that were both physical and emotional. Would rather have a one-night stand than a relationship because of these scars. That is what she thought she had with Hendrix, a one-night stand. But now he is back and he has not forgotten her and wants more of her. One difference with Hendrix is that he wants more than just her body. A body that she tries to hide from him. But after their night together he tells her that he felt her scars and wants to help her heal. He wants her to see herself like he sees her: beautiful, inside and out.
As with all novellas their story was too short. Although, we do get it all. The emotions these two characters share. The acceptance he has for her scars and the love that begins to grow between them. Their story creates a picture that goes beyond words. One look and you see the love they share for each other and the happily ever after they have created.
I loved this heartbreakingly beautiful romance. I have wanted more about Camilla after meeting her in the Slay series. She had worked hard to get back on her feet, leaving the nightmare of her past behind her with the help of her brother, Edward, and to build a good life for her son, Freddie, and herself. But the scars from her tragic past still haunt her, making it impossible for her to open herself up to love again. She is satisfied with quick, anonymous hookups in dark rooms, on her own terms. Until she meets Hendrix, a sexy american wildlife photographer in Paris. He is engaging and passionate and he made her feel witty and brave. Their heated discussions led to an explosive night of passion that they both wanted more of. But Camilla can’t be vulnerable for anyone again, and runs out while he is asleep. Now he’s found her again, and he’s done giving her space. He enrolled in the photography class that she teaches and he wants her to know he is here to stay. He see’s her intelligence, humor, and passion behind her scars. He is used to laying in wait for the perfect shot in the wild, so he is happy to wait patiently for Camilla. Camilla is both scared and excited about being pursued, but after so much pain, it is hard to come into the light and be completely exposed. This story was so beautifully written, making me feel all Camilla’s emotions and struggles to trust and find strength in her vulnerability. Hendrix was so sweet and swoony in the way that he cherished her and helped her to feel whole again. I really wanted a HEA for Camilla, and this emotional, passionate, and steamy romance made me completely happy!
Slash is a novella about Camilla Fasbender, sister of one of the main characters, Edward Fasbender, in Laurelin Paige’s Slay Series. You DO NOT have to have read the Slay Series to read and enjoy Slash, although I highly recommend you do. Slash is Camilla’s story, told in her POV, her life past and present are laid out for the reader. As with all Ms. Paige’s stories, Slash is masterfully written. You will be hard-pressed to stop reading once you’ve started. Camilla’s strengths and vulnerabilities are on full display here. Her intensity is palpable. I found myself completely drawn to her and hanging on every word she uttered, desperate for her to escape her past and live fully, happily in the present. Hers was a character much more complex than what was on display in the Slay Series, so having this novella to read and immerse myself in was truly a treat. There’s definitely something for everyone here. I thoroughly enjoyed Slash and hope you do too! Don’t miss it!
Story of 2 people who I had never read about before in the previous books but I didnt feel like I had to with this one. Camilla is torn with her feelings to Hendrix. After their one night stand, she can’t seem to forget about him.
Then he shows up in her photography class and their chemistry is hot.
Camilla is very careful, too careful, she goes back and forth with her feelings. Sometimes irritating the heck out of me!
Hendrix, he can’t forget about her . He wants her, needs her and is willing to take it slow for her. He is such a gentleman!
I love their push/ pull. Great beginning and can’t wait to find out what happens!
I didn’t know I needed this story until I read it. Camilla Fasbender is prickly for a reason. A lot of her story is exposed in the Slay series, but this novella gives her own POV. Even though her brother Edward did what he could for her, Camilla buries her pain and focuses on work and her son Freddie. She ignores the sting of loneliness, having resigned herself to brief interactions. Hendrix Reid enters the picture. He’s every bit of the practiced and patient photographer of wildlife that he’s built a renowned career on. Camilla is absolutely fascinating to him in every way and with his experience in observing wild animals, he approaches her with caution and confidence, knowing full well of her tendency to pull out the claws, run away and avoid exposing vulnerability. I loved how Hendrix knew exactly how much to push and when to stay present. Camilla’s history is raw and heartbreaking, but Hendrix sees the beauty of her survival and how she’s now thriving. Hendrix is a fine example of a man who can show women like Camilla how worthy and wonderful they are. Great addition to the Slay world.
This novella is beautiful. It shows progress in ones life and that you are beautiful, even if circumstances in the past left you unsure and broken. She had a rough go of it but Hendrix shows her, just what she needs to see, through their medium, it was perfect.
Camilla, Edward Fassbender’s sister has her own second chance novella that rocked my world!! Leaving her painful past behind, Camilla tries to build a new life for her son with the help of her brother. Never trusting herself to find love, she is satisfied with meaningless hookups. Then along come Hendrix, a fellow photographer and let me say “CHEMISTRY”!!! Passion takes over but can she trust her feelings? I loved this novella that packs a punch! Laurelin Paige continues to WOW me with her enormous talent, time and time again!!
Thank you for Camilla’s story. Even though it was a novella, it gave us a better understanding of her. Camilla is Edwards’s sister. She is introduced in the Slay series. And let’s not forget, Freddie, her son. She gives us pieces of her past that help us get to know her better. Why she’s the way she is, and if she can overcome her issues. When Hendrix comes into her life, she wants to run away. But as much as she denies it, she also wants to live. Can Hendrix help her become herself again? Go grab this shirt and sweet novella today to find out.
