From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Hopeless and Losing Hope. Falling in love can feel like poetry. Or it can feel like a slam to the heart. Colleen Hoover’s romantic, emotion-packed debut novel unforgettably captures all the magic and confusion of first love, as two young people forge an unlikely bond before discovering that fate has other plans for them. Following the unexpected … death of her father, eighteen-year-old Layken becomes the rock for both her mother and younger brother. She appears resilient and tenacious, but inside, she’s losing hope. Then she meets her new neighbor Will, a handsome twenty-one-year-old whose mere presence leaves her flustered and whose passion for poetry slams thrills her. Not long after a heart-stopping first date during which each recognizes something profound and familiar in the other, they are slammed to the core when a shocking discovery brings their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together and the forces that tear them apart. Only through the poetry they share are they able to speak the truth that is in their hearts and imagine a future where love is cause for celebration, not regret.

Another winner by Colleen Hoover, putting characters in unique but believable circumstances and ratcheting up the tension. I immediately downloaded the sequel and stayed up until 4:30am finishing that one! And the poetry…wow. That is not usually my thing, but she made me a believer.
Reread this CoHo classic because I was in the mood for a story I knew I’d love. And of course, I loved the hell out of it yet again. I forget sometimes that it’s a story about death, too, and that’s pretty rough, but I like the way that Hoover handles the tragedy of the families’ stories within the context of the romance. And, ugh, Will Cooper is …
The writing was superb. It’s one of those stories that sticks with you, long after you’ve read the last page.
Late to the party with Slammed (though I’ve read other Colleen Hoover books). I was interested to read her debut and wasn’t disappointed. This book had all the twists and feels you’d expect from this author!
This book hit a little too close to home. But, I would do anything to have a Will in my life for all the support he openly gave to a stranger. Need I say how much I loved this book? It’s a Colleen Hoover book! I think I’m just going to lie in bed and cry myself to sleep.
This was my first time listening to Heidi Baker’s work. And as you can tell …
I enjoyed the way this story unfolded. The way Colleen used slam poetry was pretty great. The storyline, though sad at times, was very real. I loved Julia (Lake’s mom) in this book… I could almost feel the mom hugs. This book acknowledges the steps in the grieving process, and validated the hell out of them. A sweet, emotional and poised story. …
h: Layken, aka Lake (POV)
H: Will
There is something about the way that Colleen Hoover writes. When you read her stories, they grip your heart and hold it hostage until the very end. Lake and Will have a connection in that they are both strong and resilient. They have both overcome hardships that life has thrown at them early on. They immediately …
I have enjoyed every single book by this author. I am never disappointed in her storylines and how the characters seem so real with great background stories of their own.
The Slammed Series consists of three books, and OMG they were all amazing! This lady knows how to write, and tug at your heart strings, i loved all the characters, and just when you thought they are ok now, Colleen pulls the rug out from under you, and they face more adversity to keep them apart. I read all three books in this series, and I …
I loved the characters in this story and that it twisted and turned in unexpected ways.
I thought the beginning was a bit young, like it could do with a bit a twerking, until my research facilitated my knowledge and acceptance that this is Colleen Hoover’s debut novel.
Nightstand, it never took away how impressionable the book is. Colleen pulls out feelings of love, lost, regrets, joys, sorrow, bravery, new beginnings but most …
Absolutely loved this series. So far my fav series by her.
Slammed wasnt the story that I first thought was. Layken was young girl who was struggling after her Father’s death.. Moving to a new state was difficult. Life was fragile until meeting her neighbor Will and his little brother. Honestly, this book was so much more than romance. It was written so beautiful, all the feelings were vivid and I cant …
Couldn’t put it down!
Layken, together with her brother Kel and mother Julia, moved to Michigan shortly after her father died. There she met next door neighbor hottie, Will Cooper, who had a brother (Caulder) as young as Kel. There was an instant attraction between the two (I usually frown on insta-love stories) until they soon discovered they couldn’t be together on …
I am not a big fan of poetry, but I love Colleen Hoover, so I thought I would grab this book. With that being said I found this book a little slow and more of a YA read than I am used to.
Layken, along with her mother and brother, move into the same neighborhood as Will and his brother. Lake and Will instantly feel a connection to each other …
Love it! Love the poetry!
This is the most problematic thing I’ve ever read. After two chapters, I ranted to my mom for a half hour about what was wrong so far. I couldn’t take it seriously after five chapters; it was nice to really laugh at a book!
Whoever says that this was a romance is wrong; it’s more like a comedic horror.
This book started my great love for all that is CoHo. This is such a beautiful story that it made me cry a couple of times, and I hate crying. Feelings…yuck! I connected with not only the characters but with the story too. I’ve never heard of Slam Poetry until this book. I think it’s cool that it’s based in a town that is 20 minutes away from …
I was gifted this book on Amazon as part of a giveaway in a Facebook group I’m in. I was very excited to read it, I’ve been wanting to read a Colleen Hoover book for ages because of all the wonderful things I’ve heard about her work. I can honestly say I was NOT disappointed and I will be reading more of Ms. Hoover in the future, that’s for sure! …
