Tired of waiting for her big break in the fashion industry, Sky Gonzalez, eternal part-time student and overworked retail drone, quits her job, sublets her New York apartment, and embarks on a semester abroad study program in Paris. Paris! Time to throw caution to the winds and jump-start her dreams. What’s the worst that could happen?
How about getting sent to the wrong Paris? As in … Paris-frigging-Minnesota?
Bye-bye career dreams. Bye-bye glamour and haute couture. Hello flannel shirts, mind-numbing cold, zero bars on the cell phone, and socially challenged mountain men with tons of unruly facial hair.
Logan should have dodged the little lost waif and kept on driving. Who in their right mind walked in the middle of the road, dressed in white from head to high heels, during a snowstorm? Clueless city girls, that’s who. Sky is all that Logan has gladly left behind: stylish, cosmopolitan, and a massive pain in the butt. He wouldn’t trade a single day in his quirky little corner of the woods for all the high-maintenance beauties the city can offer.
Too bad this beauty has been deemed a health hazard and quarantined in his house. Damn his doomsday-prepper neighbors and their paranoid emergency protocols. Now he has to keep Sky in and the pandemic squad out until the roads are clear. The question is, will that happen before or after Sky realizes she’s under house arrest?

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. Love those bearded mountain men!! Sky’s character was interesting to me. I’m not much of a girly girl so it was hard to relate to her need for couture, fashion conscious and brand names but it didn’t detract from her likability especially when you find out why she is so much into always looking put together.
The townsfolks are hilarious, a bit wacky but I think that is what makes them so likeable. I love Sky’s dog, Arnie and how Logan was with him. I love bearded mountain men who are alpha, but sensitive, but still manly and love dogs!!!
I was a bit apprehensive with the blurb about how Sky reminds Logan of his former wife but Sky herself quickly changes his mind and show the difference between them.
All in all loved this story, quite funny, sweet and again love those bearded alpha mountain men!!
4.5 stars. Shades of Stars Hallow!! A quirky town, a neurotic dog, a city girl, a scruffy chemist and some super sexy times make for one enjoyable story.
Sky Gonzalez has it all planned. Sublocate her apartment in New York and catch a plane straight to Paris, France to study fashion. What she did not expect was to be sent to Paris … Minnesota.
All Logan Nolting wanted was to stay away from high maintenance type. Branded clothes, high heels, makeup. He was doing well until he came across that little redhead in the middle of the road. Who does wear white in middle of a snowstorm?
The first chapter is a bit boring. Just a lost, angry and a little annoying Sky. The circumstances under which Sky “needs” to be kept in Noname’s town, Logan’s reactions, the way they become friends are filled with all sorts of oddities, good plots and great to read.
Sky’s dog, Arnie, is sensational. Pampered, extremely attached to the owner, almost human and afraid of stairs. Everywhere it appears makes the book even better. The canine’s relationship with Logan, a case apart. The “curse” of Logan’s house is hilarious.
But a good plot is not only made with laughter. We approach some themes related to the physical and emotional health of some characters in the unfolding of the narrative, including Megan and Sky herself. And the way Logan deals with these problems is mature and tender. Less after a certain dance: there you will feel like killing Mr. Nolting. And one more pleasant surprise: you’re sure to cling to the preppers and their city. It’s an irresistible and comedic attraction at the same time.
A well-written, lightweight book, with that well-dosed pinch of daring, balanced with that space so necessary for the inference of the reader. Recommended for those who enjoy a racy romance with a good dose of comedy.
I received this book as a gift. Normally, I enter giveaways for authors ‘new to me’. To be honest, I’ve read and enjoyed Elle’s books before- its’s been a loonnnng while. Her stories are sexy and funny and always have some underlying issues dealt in realism. However, Elle is my ‘Before BookFriends’ author, so following her and clicking got buried under the avalanche of recommendations.
Fast forward: I won Sky’s the Limit book and made it my 10hr plane ride read. It is everything I wanted. It was funny and slightly out there at times. It’s two people who believe they are not meant for each other but somehow are the right fit. And figure that out that they belong together. The secondary characters are hilarious and you can’t help but actually learn to love their brand of craziness. She made me remember why I LOVED Heavy Issues amongst others in the Bowen Boys.
But… most importantly she tackled an issue with grace and perfection.
My ‘hard limit’ on books that tackle mental health issues. Its been my world for so long I feel the need to escape. And then I start to analyze how the author addresses the issue. So, yes, Sky’s touches on depression but does so without using the topic unnecessarily.
So this gift brought me a return to an author who’s writing I love.
5 out of 5 stars.
I honestly didn’t want this book to end!
This is the first of what I hope is more of The Doomsday Preppers series! And what a way to start!
First off, holla! Baseing the book in Minnesota! Well as a Minnesotan born and bred, that got me hooked from the get go! Next, the references to one of my all time favorite shows ever! (Not gonna mention, because I don’t want to spoil it!) In fact the whole story had that favorite show feel and I absolutely floved it! Phenomenal!
The overall dialogue between all the characters is hysterical! “We are either invading the neighboring county or turning into cattle thieves, Take your pick….” That’s just a small sample.
The feistiness and refreshing honesty of Sky made me fall in love with her, she loved what she loved and made no apologies for it! Logan was a dreamboat hidden in the woods, he was swoonworthy with just enough alpha in him to make you blush!
This story is so real, funny and relatable, I cannot come up with more words worthy of praising this! I love to laugh out loud when I am reading a book and this story does, repeatedly!
Well you’ve done it Elle, you have got yourself another fangirl (stalker, could go either way….hee hee)!
Do yourself a favor and get this book, I will be making time for a re-read shortly!
