All that holds back the Galaxy’s first interplanetary war is a crew of repurposed criminals, an undercover agent, and a world-government trust fund baby. The Dogs of War.With the destruction of the planet Mukurus comes the dawn of new struggles for the Worlds Crisis Committee. The Dragons are awakened. Their Higher Order sits council at a hidden base somewhere in the Milky Way, along with faithful … the Milky Way, along with faithful servants called Faders, who worship them as gods. From the shadows, they puppeteer raids to cut SkyLine supply routes. They box in human expansion, stifle the enemy.
After its defeat at the hands of Drogan, the ancient life form Machaeus is scattered across the cosmos. Its spores are the subject of research on both sides of the budding Dragon war. It becomes a means of transport. It becomes a weapon. The study of these “M-Particles” inspires horrendous biological experimentation in deep cover labs across the Galaxy. Beneath it all, the will of Machaeus lurks still, forming a plot of its own.
In the chaos, the Worlds Crisis Committee turns to the Dogs of War. This elite task force tackles two missions to keep the Milky Way from tearing itself apart. Open new trade routes. Find the Dragons and uproot them from the galaxy. The mission sounds simple to the Dogs’ Captain, Demitri “Demi” Alexander, until he sees the crew in action. He alone can reconcile the differences between siblings from the mines of Saturn’s Rings, the niece of a high-ranking WCC executive, and an M-Particle research specialist. They must become the Dogs of War. They are the last chance for humans to make a stand against the enclosing Dragon threat.
Demi’s biggest challenge, though, are his feelings for one of his own. Arms Specialist Kalus Delphi. The two have a history of passion, one they put behind them for the good of the unit. The Captain faces a dangerous balance of reigning in the wily but talented Kalus, without igniting flames best snuffed. But, with the fate of the Galaxy on their shoulders, how much can these two fight their own feelings?
For better or worse, the Dogs of War cross every planet in the SkyLine. They delve deep in the Chrysum wells of Neptune and the floating city of Jupiter alike, in search of the Dragons and hope to defeat them.

The story continues but . . .
There’s still lots of action and the characters are complex, maybe too much so, lets go with complicated. The storyline got even weirder than it was in the first two books.
The audiobook was enjoyable to listen to as long as I could ignore the numerous mispronounced words.
My biggest disappointment is that the end left me hanging.
Again.
Wow, I have read Dragon Commander and speed read Dogs of War. These stories are gripping and must only be read when you have nothing and I mean nothing to do for a few hours. Some very thought provoking and interesting ideas. Highly recommended for any serious SF fan and even those who are just venturing into reading SF. But beware you have to read it with an open mind.

Our heroes are scattered after the last book and need to rediscover themselves and each other to face the new threat.
This is book three in the series. It does okay as a standalone (I have not read the earlier books), but it takes a while to come to understand the characters and the situation. Reading them in order is recommended.
The story itself is well written, but perhaps a bit grandiose. I was intrigued by the notion of dragons in space, but somehow found it to be not quite what I was expecting or hoping for. There is a lot of detail in the story as well as several actors, which can be a bit confusing at times. Reading the earlier books might help in that regard, but I still think it would be a but too much. Eventually I gave up on trying to make sense of who all the people were and just took things as they came. At that, it was an enjoyable story and I expect to go back to the beginning when I get the chance.

I think I was a little behind having not read any of the other books, that might have made this a little easier to understand. I did enjoy the characters and the story once I understood who was who and what was what but took me a bit longer than I liked. Still, if you have read the first two, it is a great story overall.

The Dogs of War are tasked will saving the universe from space dragons. Fast paced and exciting! I didn’t want to put it down. Recommend you read this book. I received a free arc copy of the book to review.
“Dogs of War. This is why we’re here. Bark loud. Bite harder.”
Gritty, fast-paced and compelling, edgy dialogue, deep characters and non-stop action, accompanied by a shocking quest for justice. The turmoils the new characters face is daunting and chilling.
It’s also about survival, courage and love. An action packed thriller with a great tale that will keep readers invested in these characters and leave them wanting more. A solid SciFi fantasy offering!
In SkyLine: The Dragon Commander we meet Machaeus. He claims to have been created by the Dragons (a loose translation from Chris’ language for these creatures). These Dragons, had harvested Chrysum (the element’s name also in Chris’ language) from every world they could reach.
Machaeus was created by the Dragons to do what they could not – find more Chrysum. Machaeus is not an entity, not a Dragon, not a computer; he could be concrete or abstract. As you will find out in SkyLine: Dogs of War Machaeus is nothing and everything of and beyond Universes. This does question if the Dragons created him or he manipulated them to think he was their creation.
I guess you could read SkyLine: Dogs of War as a stand-alone but it may be a confusing.
The tie-in between The Dragon Commander and Dogs of War is SkyLine: The Captain, The Billionaire Boat and The Dragon Crusader. Even though SkyLine: The Captain, The Billionaire Boat and The Dragon Crusader is listed as Book 2 of 2 I think the Dog of Wars is the ‘end’ of this SkyLine saga.
What is the connection in SkyLine: The Dragon Commander and SkyLine: Dogs of War with the jet-black dragon?
Who is Drogan?

This story is well written, full of action and adventure that will leave you wanting more. I don’t know what will happen next, but if it’s anything like this story, I won’t be able to put it down either. I just love a well written sci-fi novel and Kennedy hasn’t let me down yet. This is going to be another rip roaring series,I can feel
Review of Skyline – The Dogs of War by Kennedy King
Space adventure with Dragons and other fantastic beasts – 3 stars
We are introduced to four people who are incredibly good at fighting; these four will be the Dogs of War who ride out to Saturn using a “Skyline” which surrounds their speedy ship, Cerberus, a Warbringer class vessel. The Skyline is a nanotube which enables fast travel.
The enemy is, brace yourselves, dragons who want to own and control everything. Dragons even have allies called Faders who are somewhat like humans with two legs and four arms and are skilled in killing.
There is a special high power fuel, Chrysum. And to add to the wow power, there is a super being named Machaeus.
A person who was wounded and held prisoner for years manages to mix up the already incredible collection of misfits.
It takes nearly half of the book to finally see the dragons in combat. Hints of a possible cosmic explosion seem to be merely treats (There are sequels to this book).
Plot development was delayed by flashbacks and interpersonal encounters that sidetrack the story. I would have enjoyed the book more without the hand holding.
Dawn Redding woke up startled until she realized she was enclosed in a tiny pod. She forced herself to calm down and try to think about how long she had been here and how far the explosion had flung her? She saw faces in her mind, but could not remember names. She went through screen after screen of data, trying to trigger memories. Finally in frustration, she slammed her head on the console… and woke to the dull red stone of a clay wall with a red drip of blood from her head. The pod had vanished from around her. The tiny red stone room surrounding her was both familiar and a mystery. A bed, toilet, and a door with no handles were crammed in the room with her. Looking through a small window, this building was on an island and a lake surrounded it. Beyond that was a dense forest. And above was the shimmering blue streak of the SkyLine. She was on Mars!
Dawn called out of her prison cell and a voice warned her to be quiet or the “Coats” would come. She knew the voice who asked if she were having another “episode”, and explained the “coats” referred to nurses. What she in an asylum? The woman was Morgan and was the one who brought Dawn here. The interrogation to get information about the outlaw, Drogan, and about what happened on Mukurus led to her memory loss. Marcus Brass and two nurses entered the room. A syringe injected something that froze Dawn’s muscles, except for her lips so that she could still talk. Marcus pulled out another syringe with a black tar substance and injected it into her back. He told her she was Captain Dawn Redding: Patient 07 in the Slayer Program since the destruction of Mukurus eight months ago, and he told her with sympathy in his voice that the only way out of this program was to get through it!
Kalus Delphi and Sophia Brass, here to train at the new Worlds Crisis Committee’s Earth Consulate, were bickering back and forth as Kalus taunted her while they waited for Captain Demitri “Demi” Alexander. Sophia was the niece of the Chairman of the WCC’s Outerworlds Outreach Program, Marcus Brass, and always acted like she was looking down her nose on people. So she was easy to rile up. She smugly thought that if it wasn’t for Captain Demi, former Blue Terra undercover specialist himself, recommending Kalus, he would not have made it this far. Kalus was the Arms Master and Sophia was the Artillery Specialist – both forming the perfect defense system, but they had to work together or it wouldn’t work. Then Kalus’ sister Lilia joined them. For the first time, the true gravity of their mission weighed on them and each of the Dogs of War team felt the gravity of it like a stone in the pit of their gut. The four of them were the last hope of the Milky Way against the scaly scumbag enemy. Were they going to be enough? Could they be effective against such an enemy? And what would it mean if they failed . . .
This was a well-written, detail filled story that moved quickly along with a steady tension that kept the reader alert to what might happen next. The characters were excellently portrayed by the way they interacted with others. It was easy to spot the heroes, the strong ones, who would have a big part to play in the upcoming crisis. There is a tie-in also to be made with Dawn, whom we met in the opening of the story. Grab your copy and hang on for a wild adventure as this small team prepares for what lies ahead!
The blurb for this story had me intrigued, I read a lot of Richard Parry books and I was hoping to find another author that I could add to my list as a go to for some interstellar shoot’em up time of action.
The concept was good what made it a challenge for me was the almost confusing writing style, then throw in that several of the characters seemed to be going through some sort of mental breakdown/torture and I had to reread a lot of the sections to just get a handle on what was going on. Plus the annoying thing of having a character called Drogan who ends up fighting dragons sigh. For me the crew just never gelled and I was not able to connect with any of them.
Others may love this story for me it was just a confusing jumble with grandiose moments that made no sense.

It is after midnight, so this may be shorter than usual. PG15 and takes an overtime day. Leap forward in time to 2350 when the planets are connected by the SkyLine.
