Heartwarming, fun, quirky, sweet, sexy and thrilling romantic journey filled with passion, heart, longing and true acceptance. Letting go of a painful past and truly embracing who you are inside and out are hard things to do.
DR. JACK REED is charming, sexy, funny and has been burned by the love of his life living a lie for so very long…. NURSE MACIE FRANKLIN is sweet, fun, sassy and is so done with being friend-zoned by every guy she is attracted to. She makes an online dating profile and after hooking the perfect guy decides to make a drastic change to become more like the picture she presents. Only as luck or life would have it she runs smack dab into Dr. perfect in the exam room. Does she come clean??? Loved this emotionally engaging and highly entertaining story and was delighted to visit one of my all time favorite charters Miss Luci from the Happy Pants Café.
I have really enjoyed this series. I started and finished it in one day. I didn’t want it to end. Mimi has such a great talent in writing her books. I look forward to the next book of hers I read.
I enjoyed reading this story! I love reading about what happens with Jack and Macie. I recommend this !!!!!
The only way to really accept yourself is by seeing the truth through other people
Whilst this is part of the Happy Pants series, this light and fluffy (not bad fluffy) rom-com can easily be read as a stand alone. I haven’t read any other Happy Pants books but I have read several other works by this author, all of which I have enjoyed. The blurb sounded pretty decent and what’s not to like about the hot guy on the cover?
I was fairly confident that I would get a well written and very witty story, with some unexpected facets and hidden depths. In that respect I really wasn’t disappointed. The world building is good, the plot was really easy to follow and the prose easily held my attention.
Marcie is a BBW, she eats healthily and keeps herself fit but just can not shed the extra weight she carries. Sick of men judging her on looks alone she has given up on dating. A drunken night of self pity leads to her making dating app contact with a hunk of a guy. Imagine her surprise when said guy turns up at her place of work. The trouble is that Jack can’t abide liars, and Macie didn’t use her picture on the dating app. The more time they spend together, the more their connection builds and the worse Macie feels. Interference by those with good intentions leads to lots of hurt and upset, will Macie ever find her Mr Right?
I loved Macie, as a larger lady I wish I had her confidence and ability to ignore/not give power to the ignorant opinions of others. She might not be perfect but she was perfectly happy with who she was, and that’s a lesson many of us could do with learning. I liked all her decisions and reactions right until the very end, when she really let that jackass off far too easily for me. Yes she is in love with him but he didn’t really seem to earn her forgiveness – especially given the double standard of his approach to getting back in contact with her.
Apart from the penultimate chapter the book is written entirely from Macie’s point of view. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a funny, thought provoking and sometimes emotion punching point of view but it did mean that I felt very little connection to Jack at all. He came across as a rude, opinionated (rather than principled) cold-fish most of the time. I understood why he had issues but I just couldn’t connect with him. Liking and connecting with characters is hugely important for me, hence the 3 star ‘liked’ rating for this. Don’t forget liked is a positive thing, it was definitely better than a mere ‘ok’ but it didn’t knock my socks off and it won’t be a book that sticks in my head. However, if you are more of a plot based book lover then I’m sure you would rate this higher, and that’s fine too.
It’s not too long a book, so I didn’t skim any of this, nor did I ever consider DNF’ing it. There’s the occasional swear word, one almost-not-in-the-bedroom scene and one very-much-in-the-bedroom love scene, but nothing too detailed or crude – who could take offence at the term crotch fireworks and glowing lady sparklers ?
There is a special something about the writing of this author, it really touches your emotions and can take you from tears to laughter in a heartbeat. I would recommend this book to both fans of the author or anyone looking for a well written rom-com.
This was such a fun read but also a little bit of a sad one, because I knew this was the end of a series that I have enjoyed very much. The laughs are plentiful, the sexy times are hot, we have a great story line, and two great characters so honestly there isn’t much to not like about this book.
Ms. Luci is retiring and there is one match to be made before she does. Dr. Jack Reed. Jack is Taylor’s brother so if you’ve read Tailored for Trouble you will remember Jack, the hot doc. Jack’s wife left him for one of his patients and if that wasn’t bad enough she was also a woman, after being high school sweethearts and married to his wife for so long Jack never knew that his wife preferred women over men. Jack did everything in his power to give his wife the perfect life and she left him anyway so needless to say he’s a bit hesitant about getting out there and start dating again. Jack was not only devastated when his wife left him but he was also blindsided so now he believes that all women are liars.
Macie is a beautiful curvy nurse that is getting tired of the extra weight she is carrying around, she has had little luck with diet and exercise so she is considering going under the knife but first she has to schedule an appointment with the new plastic surgeon that works at her hospital, she hasn’t met him yet but she has been told he is quite the looker. But when Macie comes face to face with Dr. Jack Reed she cannot believe her luck, he is the same Dr. J-Love that she has been messaging back and forth with through a dating site as Catrina. She Catfished her doctor!
This story was so fun but at times it was sad too, I really hated the way that Jack always assumed women were lying to him and he couldn’t trust them. I understand he had his heart broken and it had only been two years since his divorce, but I would think after two years he would start to realize not everyone was a lair.
I’m sad to see this series end but I know that Mimi Jean Pamfiloff has other great stories just waiting to be shared with us. I highly recommend reading the entire series in order because prior couples make appearances in this book, but each of them can be read as a standalone. Happy Reading!

Favorite Quotes:
Like I’m lower than a cockroach wearing stained underwear.
She wanted a man who was romantic, but not needy. She wanted someone who would love her forever even when she was ninety, wrinkled, and peed just a little when she sneezed because she’d had beautiful children with him.
Honey, we are all attracted to him. Reed is complete husband material. And bean-flicking material. And heartbreak, fan-club, tramp-stamp material.
When you do see him, just remember that he’s only hot on the outside. On the inside, he’s covered in scabs and festering boils.
My Review:
This was my first time experiencing the talented Ms. Pamfiloff’s creatively witty word skills, and I am giddy with delight and bawdy glee over my discovery. I enjoyed this cleverly amusing and engaging tale from beginning to end and had marked several pages of favorite quotes, although many of them could not be used due to Macie’s amusing filthy and creative use of profanity. I adored the robust Macie; she was spunky, endearing, and highly relatable. The storylines were fresh and entertaining with more unexpected curves than Macie’s ample shapeliness. Ms. Pamfiloff’s writing was highly entertaining, thoroughly engaging, and just plain fun. I could kick myself for my careless sloth in taking so long to notice her work. I have been remiss and greedily covet her words.
Skinny Pants is Book 3 in in The Happy Pants Cafe Series but I think it’s easily a stand alone. I haven’t read the previous books in the series and had no problems connecting with this story.
First of all I want to say that being a larger size woman I really related to Macie. The only difference is that I don’t even attempt to be healthy and she’s healthy just still a larger size woman. I totally understand the feeling of people looking right threw her or overlooking her due to her size.
After a brutal day of her self esteemed being knocked she gets a little inebriated and signs up on a dating site completely lying about herself.
Imagine her surprise when she walks into an appointment and the doctor is none other than the sexy Doctor J-Love that she has been chatting with.
Dr Jack Reed immediately actually ‘saw’ Macie. I think Jack is drawn to Macie’s realness and her sass (love that girl!). They become friends first and it builds from there. These two are both closed off from personal relationships for entirely different reasons. Marcie is an amazing young lady that has the best caring type demeanor a nurse can possibily have but due to her self esteem being knocked too many times in the past is not receptive to closer relationships than her own friends. Jack’s ex-wife really did a number on him that makes him distrustful and a little bitter.
I love how the author slowly builds their relationship. I think the friends to lovers is the best type of relationship to have.
My absolute favorite part is when Jack’s stands up for Marcie after another Doctor is very condescending to her about her size. Seriously, I swooned.
Their underlying distrust of others has them being torn apart before they even have a chance.
Now we have to see if Jack can overlook being catfished and if he can if Macie can forgive him for being so callous to her.
This is a wonderful written story that caught drew me in from the very beginning and kept me intrigued until the very end.
This series is fantastic! I loved every moment I was in this book world. I didn’t want it to end. The characters are wonderfully witty and fully developed. Great plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You won’t be able to put this book down. I highly recommended this series.
In this “final” book in the Happy Pants Cafe series, we meet a lovely, hardworking nurse who sometimes has issues with the fact that she is overweight. When a nasty coworker gets into her head, she decides to have gastric bypass and meets with the new, hot plastic surgeon about doing the surgery. Being new in town, he asks her for help finding places to exercise. Confused with his sometimes sweet, sometimes cold demeanor, our heroine finds herself falling for this confounding man. Of course, family members interfere as we know when she receives a cookie. What we don’t know is how strong his reaction will be! All of our previous couples from the cookie saga have always been intertwined as is our hero this time. Will the cookie do it’s job this time and will this really be the end of the Happy Pants Cafe? Read this wonderful book and find out!
What a great ending to a great series! Macie and Jack’s story is definitely one for the pages. This friends to enemies to lovers story kept me in my seat, turning page after page until the very end. A little bit sad with it being the last book to a wonderful series, but a great HEA!
My favorite quote from the book… “He’s so scrumptiously tasty.” “Something about him makes me want to ovulate, bend over, and give up all my hopes and dreams just to wash his dirty underwear and make him coffee in the morning.” I literally snort-laughed when I read this!
While Mim Jean Pamfiloff’s dark and paranormal writings are outstanding her romantic comedies are extraordinary. These lighthearted romances keep you smiling if not laughing outloud. This final book in the Happy Pants Cafe series is no exception.
Macie and Jack are disastrous at every turn. Macie is a warm, generous, caring spirit who has walled herself off from close relationships other than her best friends. Jack is a talented surgeon whose bitter divorce two years ago has left him cold, callous and distrustful. Mistrust, miscommunications, meddling friends and family end up separating Jack and Macie before they ever really get started. It takes 6 months away from each other to really deal with their own baggage before they can deal with falling in love. But it does happen. Ms Luci ends up planning and scheming her last wedding before she retires from The Happy Pants Cafe.
Skinny Pants is an EXCELLENT written romance! I got HOOKED on Macie and Jack! Just like Macie I couldn’t tell if Jack was into Macie as a friend or wanted her as his woman until the very end and it was that confusion that made this story endearing. Normally you know RIGHT AWAY in a romance when a guy likes a woman but damn, for once I couldn’t tell and it drove me batty in a very good way. I found myself flying through the book to find out EVERYTHING. And these characters…FANTASTIC! I liked them both a whole lot and the fact that there was both heat and humor made this book even more incredible.
From the moment I started this book I knew I was going to be in for a real treat. Nothing gets me more interested in a romance than when the heroine is a curvy one. When I find that she is super sweet, fun, sassy, and just as thrown by Jack as I was it made me like her more because that connection was just…THERE! Its not often I find a connection with a heroine but Macie…yea I totally get her and LOVED HER. Jack is a WAY TO PERFECT MAN..except when it came to what he wanted and his feelings. I wanted to smack him more than once but hot damn, I also wanted to SHOVE him at Macie and say, this is a woman you just HAVE to have and in the end I am VERY pleased with how things turned out. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Skinny Pants gets a DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! WELL DONE INDEED!
Even the strongest among us has moments of weakness and insecurity
Skinny Pants is story packed full of mixed signals, missteps, regrets, laughs, possibility and ultimately hope.
Nurse Macie Franklin is active, smart, self-confident, calm in the face of chaos, and unflappably happy. So how does the local man-whore doctor send her into a spiral of self-doubt?
Macie doesn’t think about her appearance. She exercises regularly, eats healthy, loves life, and works hard. She’s also given up on ever dating. Why? She happens to be overweight, and constantly landing in the friend zone of anyone she could find herself attracted to.
After a unusually bad day Macie finds herself unable to let the latest snub from the “Chadster”go. What better way to relax that drink a bottle sparkling wine, drunkenly signs up on a dating app and accidentally catfishes Dr. J-Love and making what could be a real connection. Unfortunately, it’s too late to undo the lie once she meets Dr. Reed in person.
Jack Reed just wants to move on with his life. He’s not looking for a fling he’s looking for the one. Only problem is that he’s not exactly over the deception his ex-wife dealt him. In Macie he finds someone who is caring, easy to talk to and a joy to be around.
How do two damaged individuals find a way past their hang ups and insecurities? Skinny Pants is the fourth and final book in the Happy Pants Café series. This is another of those easy “poolside reads” that although lighthearted, delves into situations that anyone of us could find ourselves in. Jack and Macie are inherently relatable, as you find yourself alternately wanting to smack some sense into them and rooting for them to find their happy ending.
Nothing worth having ever comes easily and Mimi does an excellent job of painting the humanity of her characters with words, wisdom and laughs as they struggle to become who they were meant to be. It’s easy to lose yourself in her world for a while you laugh, cry, yell, and probably see very real similarities to things in your own life. I know I did.
Being true to yourself is not easy when there are others seeking to tear you down. Jack and Macie are learning to work through personal issues ranging from infidelity to body image as they tumble into love. Neither gives their heart easily, but with the risk, comes a grand reward. Happiness. Skinny Pants stamps out negativity with humorous dialogue, emotion packed wisdom and positive storytelling.
Loving yourself first is so important. Jack and Macie set a perfect example.
Skinny Pants was the perfect final chapter in this perfectly sweet contemporary romance series.
Goodbye Happy Pants Cafe, we’ll miss those magical love cookies <3
Paging Dr. Reed! Nurse Franklin!
Sexy, hot, spicy, sassy, and incredible! Like all the other Happy Pants books, the humor was like a blast of fresh air and made Skinny Pants a great read. I was pulled in instantly by Macie and her entirety. She was relatable with adversities she has faced and how strong she is. I connected with her because of her character. She felt like a real person to me.
And then we have Dr. Reed. Jack, too, was relatable and the struggles he found himself facing broke my heart but I held onto hope through the whole book.
This book had me in tears in such an amazing yet painful way. I’m sad to see this is the end of the series, but it was a perfect wrap up!
Have you ever gotten tired of putting on a brave face? Nurse Macie Franklin is sick of being the fat friend with the great sense of humor. She’s tired of being invisible to men, friendzoned constantly and sometimes treated with downright contempt by a few. The final straw comes when handsome Dr. Chad Bollinger starts calling her Nurse Moo and tries to exclude her from socializing after work as if there’s something wrong with her. Humiliated and disgusted, she spends the night home alone, getting drunk and making up a profile on a dating app using her own info but a picture of a woman that looks like her only MUCH skinnier. In her drunken state, she meets “Dr. J-Love”, a hotter then fire surgeon and they connect, getting quite friendly through texts and emails. The next day, when she realizes what she’s done, Macie decides to take the bull by the horns and look into gastric bypass surgery and liposuction to help her lose weight and become the healthiest version of herself she can be. To get her gastric bypass, she first needs to be signed off for by the newest plastic surgeon, Jack Reed and when the doctor comes in for the consultation he’s none other then Dr. J-Love, the man she had just catfished!! As she gets to know Jack, she realizes she needs to come clean about their online relationship, but will their real life one be destroyed in the process?
