Chaz Perrone might be the only marine scientist in the world who doesn’t know which way the Gulf Stream runs. He might also be the only one who went into biology just to make a killing, and now he’s found a way–doctoring water samples so that a ruthless agribusiness tycoon can continue illegally dumping fertilizer into the endangered Everglades. When Chaz suspects that his wife, Joey, has … figured out his scam, he pushes her overboard from a cruise liner into the night-dark Atlantic. Unfortunately for Chaz, his wife doesn’t die in the fall.
Clinging blindly to a bale of Jamaican pot, Joey Perrone is plucked from the ocean by former cop and current loner Mick Stranahan. Instead of rushing to the police and reporting her husband’s crime, Joey decides to stay dead and (with Mick’s help) screw with Chaz until he screws himself.
As Joey haunts and taunts her homicidal husband, as Chaz’s cold-blooded cohorts in pollution grow uneasy about his ineptitude and increasingly erratic behavior, as Mick Stranahan discovers that six failed marriages and years of island solitude haven’t killed the reckless romantic in him, we’re taken on a hilarious, full-throttle, pure Hiaasen ride through the warped politics and mayhem of the human environment, and the human heart.
BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Carl Hiaasen’s Bad Monkey.

Fabulous beach read.
Love, love, love the funny, satirical, realalistic way Hiaason portrays the environmental problems of Florida. He’ll make you want to hug the people who work so hard to save what’s left of naturally existing wilds in that state and others that still exist.
A funny, satisfying ‘Revenge” story. I laugh every time I read it.
I like Hiassen’s books.
I read this book three times and have gifted it to countless friends. It’s my favorite of all the Carl Hiaasen books. It grabbed me from the first paragraph when Joey Perrone is tossed overboard from a cruise liner and realizes in the next paragraph that she married an asshole. Too funny!!
I love Hiaasen’s books because he has a formula that works …
Chaz Perrone is a crooked marine biologist who decides to kill his wife because he thinks she knows that he’s taking money to falsify pollution reports. Fortunately for her, Chaz is just as useless at murder as he is at science. Possibly my favorite of all Carl Hiaasen’s books, a hilarious tale of revenge and romance.
A really fun read
Very funny, usual Hiaasen twist. Unexpected plot, twist and turns.
I love all of Carl Hiaason’s books but this is one of my favorites. If I ever found myself in a situation like this poor wife, I hope I would come out of it so well.
Chaz Perrone throws his wife overboard on the last night of their second anniversary. Unbeknownst to him, Joey survives the night in the ocean. She is picked up by Mick Stranahan. Together they devise a plan to get back at Chaz. But Chaz has problems of his own:
1. He’s being babysat by a goon hired by a rich farmer
2. His addiction to the little …
very funny and and full of action!
One of Carl Hiaason’s best.
Anything by Carl Hiassen is always funny, entertaining and a pleasure to read. No regrets for time spent in his world.
Crazy characters and events. fun reading!
Carl Hiaasen cannot write a bad book!!
This book was funny. It was light and an easy read. Believe it or not – it was recommended by my husband (whose other books he recommended to me I did not like). I am going to have to read more of Carl Hiaasen’s books.
The story is about a man who pushes his wife overboard on their anniversary cruise. She survives because she is a strong …
This book made me laugh out loud.
Great beach read.
When Chaz Perrone decides to murder his wife, he has no idea how terribly wrong things will go. Upon a cruise celebrating their anniversary, Chaz decides to toss his wife Joey overboard. From there, everything goes downhill fast in the worst kind of way for Chaz.
This was a really fun read. The cast of characters are all unforgettable and the …
Carl Hiasson has a formula. Most of his books are similar in tone and style. Some of his writing is pretty tongue in cheek, but his stories are always fun and exciting.
They are even more fun to listen to.
