Bestselling author Carl Hiaasen serves up a humorous helping of “taut, fast-paced action…crisp and hot” (The New York Times). After dispatching a pistol-packing intruder from his home with the help of a stuffed Marlin head, Mick Stranahan can’t deny that someone is out to get him. His now-deceased intruder carries no I.D., and as a former Florida state investigator, Stranahan knows there are … Stranahan knows there are plenty of potential culprits. His long list of enemies includes an off point hit man, a personal injury lawyer of billboard fame, a notoriously irritating TV journalist, and a fumbling plastic surgeon.
Now, if he wants to keep fishing into his golden years, Stranahan has no choice but to come out of retirement to close this one last case…

Not as good as “Bad Monkey” but readable.
If you’ve every lived in Florida you know these characters are true to life knuckleheads. Love his writing and quirky style. The Best.
Read most of Carl Hiaasen’s books ages ago; considering ordering the whole lot of them on e-books so I can binge-out on Fla.
Typical Hiaasen novel. Beach read.
True Hiaasen….he is always entertaining
A good read but not his best. Some character are Just a little too far past belief.
ending sucked
True to the author’s comic style with a cast of quirky characters in his beloved depreciated Florida setting.
If you haven’t read this author’s work—start NOW!! A must for anyone who has ever been to Florida, anyone who enjoys humor, anyone who thinks that human behavior is endlessly fascinating and the list could go on and on. Just read him.
I read every one of his books i can. They are a skit. Highly recommend.
Funny
A typical Hiaasen tale. Fast-moving adventure with twists and turns in the story interwoven with the author’s typical subtle humor.
I’ve read almost all of Carl Hiaasen books. I love most books that take place in Florida (Tim Dorsey is another great one). I identify with all the characters that are a little off of center and the constant scheming that’s always going on. Highly recommend this book.
Loved it. This author is fantastic!
The characters were unusual and kept you guessing.
Carl Hiaasen’s characters are quirky and dangerous. Imagine a psychopath with a weed-whacker to replace a forearm removed by a barracuda and you’ve got the idea. The characters are quirky, the locations are quirky, and the story is quirky, so you’ve got the makings for a great airplane or beach book.
Love all of Carl Hiaasen’s books!
I have been ready his books for a long time, and always enjoy them
It was fun to read and moved quickly. The characters were humorous but the situations were a little too silly. Hiaasen is always funny and easy to read, but this seemed a little too contrived. I liked the book, but I don’t think it’s his best work.
Written in typical, zany Carl Hassien fashion! As always, a wild and twisted ride thru South Florida!
