Bestselling author Carl Hiaasen serves up a humorous helping of “taut, fast-paced action…crisp and hot” (The New York Times). After dispatching a pistol-packing intruder from his home with the help of a stuffed Marlin head, Mick Stranahan can’t deny that someone is out to get him. His now-deceased intruder carries no I.D., and as a former Florida state investigator, Stranahan knows there are … Stranahan knows there are plenty of potential culprits. His long list of enemies includes an off point hit man, a personal injury lawyer of billboard fame, a notoriously irritating TV journalist, and a fumbling plastic surgeon.
Now, if he wants to keep fishing into his golden years, Stranahan has no choice but to come out of retirement to close this one last case…

Skin Tight is the first book in Carl Hiaasen’s Mick Stranahan series. When former Florida State Investigator Mick Stranahan dispatches a potential assassin in his home with the help of a stuffed Marlin head he becomes convinced someone is out to get him. The question is who? With years worth of investigations under his belt the list is long. He’s forced to come out of retirement and find out who is behind this before there’s another attempt on his life. A wonderfully entertaining read!
Carl Hiaasen wrote it. Little else needs to be said. Good story, with Hiaasen’s usual bizarre touches. The only thing missing was Skink but it wasn’t really his kind of story.
I love this book. I’ve read it a few times over the years. Carl Hiaasan is one of my favorite authors. If you’re looking for something original, well written , gives you a good ending but leaving you wanting more stories about the main character(s). This is it. I also recommend Native Tongue, Strip Tease, ( disappointing movie, great book) and basically anything else Carl Hiaasan has written.
I love all of the Mick Stranahan/Skink books. Looking forward to the latest in the series.
Skin Tight is the first in the series where we first met the main characters. These books have imaginative plots and colorful characters. A lighthearted feel good read. It’s fun to try to solve the mystery before Mick does. You’ll like the characters at the start of this series and want more of them by the end of the current series.
This book, like many other Hiaasen books, is best read at the beach. If not at the beach, some sort of waterside retreat, even a bubble bath!
Carl Hiaasen has a gift for taking a straight forward plot and bringing every bit of absurdity to the surface. He’s a master of oddball characters in oddball situations and making you totally buy into it. Only in Florida.
Carl Hiassen is a great storyteller!
I hate violence but Carl Hiaasen does violence in such a cartoonish and funny way that I find myself laughing out loud.
If you like wacky characters and circuitous plots you’ll love every Carl Haissen book. This is no exception.
Absolutely LOVE Skink!
I am a FAN!
I love this book! It had me laughing so hard!
This was the first of Hiaasen’s novels I read, which turned me into an instant fan.
You have to love Hiassen. His stories are witty and entertaining and his characters are quirky and multi-dimensional. Like Elmore Leonard, who also wrote books similar in sub-genre, Hiassen writes books that you can’t put down.
LOL funny…crazy characters..
I’ve read this one at least three times, as I do with all Hiaasen books. Read it!
I’m crazy about all Hiaasen’s books! His bad guys are wonderfully awful, and all the characters are fascinating, if nutso. His caring for Florida, its exploited ecology, over-developed real estate, and pirated economy always shines through.
As always the author is highly entertaining and definitely in tune with how I feel about Floriduh.
Some of the best laugh out loud moments you will ever have reading.
He is a great author. Another great one
What can I say? It’s Carl Hiaasen, so it’s a great read, entertaining as always. I don’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a good book to while away some time.
He is an offbeat author but very much fun to read.
