Because BB Easton had so much fun writing her bestselling, award-winning memoir, 44 CHAPTERS ABOUT 4 MEN, she decided to give each of her four men his own steamy standalone! SKIN is the first book in the 44 Chapters spin-off series—a gritty, taboo, forbidden love story overflowing with ’90s nostalgia, dark humor, and heart-wrenching teenage angst. It is based on a true story. In 1997 Ronald … story.
In 1997 Ronald “Knight” McKnight was Peach State High School’s only skinhead, and hands down the meanest, most misunderstood boy on the planet. Knight hated everyone, except for BB—the perky, quirky punk chick with the locker next to his.
Brooke “BB” Bradley liked everybody, except for Knight. She was scared sh*tless of him, actually. All BB wanted was to marry Prince Eric-lookalike and king of the Peach State High punk scene, Lance Hightower, and have a million of his babies. Unfortunately for her, Knight was even better at getting his way than she was, and once he got under her skin, BB’s life would never be the same.

This book truly destroyed me.
It was really one of my first forays into the world of “bully romance” (not sure if that’s really what you call it, but I will for the sake of not feeling like Googling it).
Knight is someone you want to hate. But because of his issues, you can’t. And while that’s incredibly frustrating, it’s actually sort of liberating as well. Letting your guard down in a Beauty and the Beast kind of way, and saying “Fuck the world! I love this man, despite how twisted and fucked up he is, and how much everyone else hates him, because I know the REAL Knight!”
And then of course reality sets in. And things change. And because BB is telling us her own story based on her real-life events, we knew this wasn’t going to be a happy ending! (If you read this book without reading 44 Chapter first, you’re weird and I seriously recommend reading that one first. It will explain a lot).
Anyway, Knight was definitely my favorite. Even in the other books (reviews to come), I couldn’t forget about him. What a tragic love story. I’m really glad that I know BB got her happy ending because otherwise this would make me much more sad! lol
I’m not sure I could have loved this book more. So original, yet so familiar. I can’t seem to stop thinking about it!!
After reading 44 Chapters about 4 Men I knew I wanted more. Skin is the first book in the series and its BB and Knight’s story and I loved it so much.
SKIN was different. It was unlike anything I’ve ever read and I loved every minute of it. The story was raw yet sweet and will evoke a range of emotions from you. It will make you laugh, it will break your heart and everything in between. You will not be able to put it down.
I listened to the audible version of this story. It was Narrated by Ramona Masters who did a fantastic job with the voices. Her speech was clear and understandable and she was perfectly suited for this role. Skin was a fantastic story worthy of more than 5 stars. I loved it and would highly recommend it.
First off, I listened to the audiobook version of Skin, and the narrator was absolutely perfect! She did a super incredible job! If given the opportunity definitely get the audio version of this book! Okay, now on to the story. My heart hurts! This story is raw and deep, and my poor heart was taking a beating! Knight is totally someone that you shouldn’t love because he is violent, destructive, and a total loose cannon, but the way he cares for BB, and the letters he writes her, make my heart melt! He’s a sweet psycho, and I don’t know how, but I loved him. I suppose if I knew him in really life, I’d probably runaway, but books allow you to see deeper into someone, and feel connected to someone you wouldn’t normally. This book deals with a lot of harsh situations, so here’s a bit of a warning for future readers, this book is not for everyone. This may be slightly spoilerish, but not too bad. There’s underage drug use, violence, and minors having sex that goes beyond the normal kink factor; there’s blood and pain play, so be prepared for that type of thing going on. These characters are deeply flawed, and my heart sighed (sorry for all the heart talk ;-))that Knight and BB found each other. Normally, I would hate how this book ended, but since it’s based off of actual people, I get that it had to go the way it went, but as I said earlier, my heart hurts! I haven’t read BB Easton’s 44 chapter about 4 men yet, but when I was half way through this book, I wanted to see Knight’s fate, so I cheated and did a search for Knight in 44, and I was so sad about the events that happened in that book! I wasn’t sure I could handle continuing on with Skin, but I’m glad I did! I need as much Knight as I can get! So, if you think you can handle a deeply intense relationship that rips out your soul; rearranges it, and slams it back in, then this is for you! Don’t let the fact that he’s a skinhead dissuade you from reading this book, that point doesn’t even scratch the wonderfulness that this story holds. Oh, and Skin is funny and quirky! BB Easton’s humor is adorable! I’m definitely going to read the next book in the series Speed! I look forward to seeing to seeing what other craziness BB gets herself into!
It is recommended that you read 44 Chapters about 4 Men before reading Skin. I did not. With that being said I LOVED IT ANYWAY!!!!! Now I need to go back into my horribly long TBR and make 44 Chapters about 4 Men my top priority!
This was one crazy ride!!! And let me tell you I didn’t want to get off! The author states that “most of what you read actually happened, and the parts that didn’t actually happen were so true to the characters that they very easily could have happened.”
I can’t even explain the insanity that was the late nineties but reading this brought me back there. The only difference is my experience was in the late eighties/early nineties. Punk rock, boys, booze, parties, drugs…pick your poison!!!!
The story centers around Knight the “skinhead” & BB “Punk” the punk rocker. Two high school students finding each other and experiencing life to the fullest.
“You’re not my fucking friend, Punk. You’re my everything.”
I felt every emotion there was and some I couldn’t even name. Happy, horrified, laughing, laughing, laughing, crying and laughing again. It was sarcastic and witty and as I said before I loved it!
“I was doing something wrong. Or not doing something enough. Maybe my stomach still poked out too much. Or maybe I was too flat-chested.”
Some of the situations were really tough, but then again life is tough.
“I kept people away. I never let anybody get too close. Until you.”
An amazing read that will have you wanting more as well as trying to figure out what was true and what could have been true…..
5 stars!
“You aren’t keeping me from something better. You are my something better.”
Wow! I absolutely loved this f*cking book! I fell in love with Knight and BB’s story. I loved that BB Easton wrote a whole book for each man! I can’t wait to read more about B.B. and her crazy adventures and her obsession with tattooed bad boys and Ken 🙂
5 incredibly punk ass stars! I loved 44 chapters and reading Knight and BB’s complete story I have found an even deeper love for this man. BB loves with all she’s got and then some. To see the only known skin head in town take on such a protective role shows that there is so much more to a person then meets the eye. There are times I’m cheering Knight on and others screaming what’s wrong with you?! Decisions made have such a profound effect on each individual, I’m torn to pieces reading the full story these two souls have shared. it was a beautiful ride filled with so many emotions constantly swarming round. Thank you BB for opening your heart and soul to us the readers and sharing in both your and Knights journey.
