“Very entertaining. Highly recommended for the permanent library of any reader who appreciates a well-written mystery with twists and an intelligent plot. You will not be disappointed. Excellent way to spend a cold weekend!”–Books and Movie Reviews (regarding Murder in the Manor)SKEPTIC IN SALEM: AN EPISODE OF MURDER is the debut novel in a charming new cozy mystery series by bestselling author … bestselling author Fiona Grace, author of Murder in the Manor, a #1 Bestseller with over 100 five-star reviews (and a free download)!
When Mia Bold, 30, learns that the pharmaceutical company she works for only cares about money, she quits on the spot, walking away from a high-powered career. Worse, her long-time boyfriend, instead of proposing as she expected, decides to break up with her.
Mia’s true passion lies in her own podcast, devoted to debunking the occult and shining light on the truth. The daughter of a con-man father, Mia feels a moral responsibility to the truth, and to spare others from being conned.
When Mia, at a crossroads, receives an invitation from a famous supernatural podcast inviting her to move to Salem and join their podcast as the skeptic-in-residence, Mia sees a chance to start her life over again and to pursue her life’s mission.
But things in Salem do not go as planned. When an unexpected death happens—in the midst of Mia trying to debunk a haunted inn—she realizes she may be in over her head. With her own future now at stake, can she really prove that witches and ghosts do not exist?
A mesmerizing page-turner, packed with intrigue, mystery, romance, pets, food—and most of all, the supernatural—SKEPTIC IN SALEM is a cozy with a twist, one you will cherish as it has you fall in love with its main character and as it keeps you glued (and laughing) throughout the night.
“The book had heart and the entire story worked together seamlessly that didn’t sacrifice either intrigue or personality. I loved the characters – so many great characters! I can’t wait to read whatever Fiona Grace writes next!”

i absouletly loved this , couldent put it down very enjoyable
Entertaining mystery about young woman podcaster who moves to Salem, MA for a new show. She encounters a murder during her podcast and must help the police and her fellow podcasters catch the murder before the show is cancelled. There are many twists and turns in the plot before the murder is solved. Good Summer Read.
A very fun to read book. It was the perfect read at the end of a very stressful day. The main character is a very strong woman which always makes me feel good.
An enjoyable read, a little on the light side but still with enough mystery to keep me engaged.
i am sorry to say this book was not very good. The story and main character were annoying and the narration was awful. The narrator’s inflection was terrible and the characters were not well developed.
Loved this book. Take a tour through Salem! Looking for a new career? Can’t go wrong in one of the most haunted places in the USA. Great Read!
Visualizing the outfits of these unique characters was highly entertaining, but not as entertaining as helping to solve the mystery of the murder and helping Mia find her own way into her future.
This book kept me entertained and it had a few twists and turns. I would recommend this book if are looking for something engaging and the plot isn’t worked out on page one. The plot was well thought out.
This is a fun series set up novel. Salem has quite a history and the city certainly celebrates it’s heritage. The basic premise is that out protagonist has just lost her job by being 1. Very good at it and 2. By not being willing to compromise her principles for a new boss (pharmaceutical industry) who is more interested in making buckets of money than helping people. She is passionate about her side gig – a podcast geared to investigating and largely debunking alleged paranormal events.
So – fired and has just lost her biggest podcast sponsor. She gets an offer to move to Salem to be part of what promises to be a “point)counterpoint ” of her vs a “believer.”
The first podcast, set in a bar well- known for spooky occurrences is recorded and includes elements that seem real and elements that seem faked. Then someone dies. Killed by a ghost or by a live person. Read the book and find out.
I eagerly await a sequel.
After quitting her job and going through a break up (the typical setup for a Fiona Grace Series), Mia Bold receives an offer to co-host a podcast in Salem. She is a scientist and enjoys debunking supernatural myths and is paired up with a “believer” in all things ghostly. While many aspects of the story were similar to Fiona Grace’s other series (including an absentee father with attached mystery and an instant crush on one of the town’s restauranteurs), I liked that this book revolved around science, spiritism, and podcasting rather than food (I know that Lacey Doyle ran an antique shop, but with her baker boyfriend, it still felt very “foody”). It was also a refreshing change to see the lead character (also the initial lead murder suspect) make friends with the local police. In fact, it was the cast of characters surrounding Mia that made this book so fun and unexpected.
I liked the Lacey Doyle series and am always hopeful that the authors I enjoy will write new stories that outshine their past work. This series might be able to do just that and I look forward to reading what happens next.

This was a good start to a new series. I’m not big on paranormal cozies but this was ok. Mia is a skeptic with an open mind. After many big changes she moves to Salem, MA to host a podcast exploring all of the hauntings in town. She finds new friends, perhaps new romance and lots of strange people and happenings. When she finds herself facing murder charges she buckles down to solve the crime before she winds up in the gallows. A good time!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
