Have you ever walked out of a job on principle–I did it and went on to form my own bookkeeping business! Some companies are just too much to take after a while!! Well that is what Mia Bold did when she realized that the company she worked for was only after profits and did not care about the people the pharmaceuticals were being created for. Of course she also was told she had to leave her apartment and her boyfriend broke up with her–all on the same day!
Mia’s true passion was podcasting and as luck would have it she was invited to work at a company in Salem to help with their podcasting. She enjoyed proving that ghosts, etc do not exist-believing more in science then in the supernatural. Her co host was the exact opposite.
Something happens while she is investigating and then the owner of the place is found murdered. She is bound and determined to figure out who did it. But is she going to be able to prove there is no ghost in that restaurant? Be sure to read this one-it is full of twists and turns!!
Skeptic in Salem by Fiona Grace is a light and engaging cosy mystery. Mia Bold a part-time debunker of paranormal events, finds herself without a job while her Fiance reveals that he is a self-centred hypocrite. In defiance of her family, she moves to Salem when offered a job as a podcast host for a new paranormal show. As she settles into her new life she meets antagonistic influencers and uncovers some dark secrets. When the recording of the first podcast is followed by a murder, Mia finds herself as the prime suspect.
Mia must face the challenge and use her sleuthing talents to find out what happened the night of the murder and who might be responsible. Will she uncover the truth in time…
Fantastic
What a twist to a delightful and heartfelt mystery. It kept me guessing and then surprised until the end! Great group of characters that will bring out a verity of emotions. I know, I wanted to yell a few times at some of them (i.e, some of characters)… lol. Nevertheless, it ended in a beautiful way, and I may have even learned something from the protagonist, such as speak your mind, only when it’s immoral and don’t waste your time feeling sorry for yourself, live! Obviously, I will be reading #2 in the series to observe what happens next in Mia’s life, and how she deals with it!
This was a cozy murder mystery with just the suggestion of paranormal thrown in. It was a pleasant read, but not much action or suspense even for a cozy. The main female character has just lost her lab tech job, her fiancée, and her apartment. She moves in a different direction and accepts a job in Salem, Massachusetts in order to pursue her other interests in podcasting and debunking fake paranormal phenomena. Everything looks rosy with her new career until a suspicious death occurs and she becomes the main suspect. She then must use her keen investigative skills to prove herself innocent and ferret out the true killer. The characters were quirky, but likable for the most part. The story structure itself did not build interest for me. A character is introduced late in the storyline who is a key to solving the murder. This makes a lot of the female protagonist’s effort in the first part of the story to be just running in circles investigating dead ends. I thought this detracted from the story since it did not provide a build up of evidence leading to the climax. It was just an okay read for me.
easy to read and held my interest throughout the book
The story is well built and realistic, in spite of the theme.
A great book to read. Not to out of line with believing what is going on. it is a wonderful read to forget what else is on your mind.
Looking forward to the next book in series.
Pretty neat,
Loved this book! Great start to a new series.
This book was fantastic. A very, very enjoyable, book.
It was a book hard to put, down. Just wanted to keep, reading.
Loved it.
Mia Bold is having a bad day. She finds out that her brother-in-law has sold the building she lives in and she has 2 weeks to find another place to live, then when talking to the owner of the pharmaceutical company she works for, she finds out what he plans on doing with the new diabetic drug they’ve been working on, and when she stands up to him, she gets fired. You’d think that would be enough for anyone, but not for Mia. While out to dinner with her fiancé, when she tells him about her day, he starts arguing with her, and they end up breaking up. The only thing left in her life besides her dog that brings her joy is her small ghost busting podcast, but then her only sponsor quits as well.
Then out of the blue, she gets a call from the podcast that her sponsor went to. They want her for their show and they’re willing to put her up in and apartment in Salem, MA of all places. After a disastrous family meal, Mia decides to take the offered deal, packs up her life and moves to the witchy town of Salem. Of course, the first place she has to stop is the house that was the muse for Nathanial Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables.
Mia finds out that things are definitely strange in the town of Salem. From the number of supposed ghosts, to the number of witches, there’s a lot to be seen and there’s a lot to do. Digging right in to her new job, she’s ready to prove that the ghost haunting the tavern aren’t real, or are they? But that’s not all. When the owner is murdered, Mia is the top suspect. Not only did she find him, her fingers are the only ones on the door, and she did break a window in the back to gain access, but when an edited episode of the show is sent to the detective in charge of the case, Mia couldn’t look more guilty. Will she be able to prove her innocence and find out who the killer really is before she’s arrested and charged with the murder?
This was a really good story. I was immediately drawn in and empathized with Mia. I was drawn in because of the authors descriptions of the area, I could picture everything, and I love when that happens. I couldn’t put the book down and devoured it in one sitting. What a great start, and I can’t wait to read the next book!!
This book is about a woman who quits her job to work on a podcast in Salem Massachussetts.
Unpredictable and entertaining. Great characters. Love this author.
The author builds each character profile to lead you to/through the mystery.
This was a great mystery and liked very much.
Awesome! Just a fun book. A little bit of predictability in the beginning, but then it really took off. Complete story. Loved it and looking forward to the next one.
I had to quit reading about a third of the way through, could not connect with the story or the characters.
Want to move to Salem Mass but can’t afford it…. well this book will transport you there. You know as I do that there are witches among us and you’ll certainly meet some of the Salem bunch. How about ghosts? You’ll also find them at Salem.
A very entertaining book with plenty of action plus twists n turns. A real page burner so put the coffee on. Oh and there’s also a murder that the main character (Mia) is suspected of committing. Mia has to solve the murder or get locked up herself.
Read and enjoy
